UPDATE 10 has been posted !

I may change a few things on the map in the next day(s), to accomodate the new player if he wishes to join, or for other minor corrections. I will let you know if things are changed. We're still on a 1 update per week, on Sunday/Monday. I will add IC messages for the NPC factions in around 24 hours.

Update 10 is accessible via the following link:

** REMEMBER! ON EACH THREE UPDATES (on update 3, 6, 9, 12 ...) YOUR GET NEW SOLDIERS **

More info:

SOME WINDS IN THE AIR ... :

If you attack Broken Tooth Tribe's territories you get +30 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.
If you want to attack Broken Tooth Tribe's territories but you are not bordering them, then your army that is sent towards their lands can move 2 ticks away towards them:
- irrespective of any other army orders you give in that update (so you still have a maximum movement of 3 ticks or one of 2 ticks and unlimited of 1 tick)
- irrespective of your diplomacy status with your neighbouring factions (you don't have to be allied/friends with and you don't have to wait 1 update whenever you cross a border into another faction's land; as long as they let you walk through their lands - you first have to discuss this).

If you attack Kingdom of Arthedain's territories you get +35 more Favouritism points per province taken from them.

The factions of Clan Frostbeard, Druwaith Folk, Empire of Coldvar and The Defender's Fjord do not get any of the above bonuses, and should stop future expansion.

THE TALK FROM THE OLD UPDATE... :

.
.

Corsairs of Umbar (message 1 of 2):

To the Broken Tooth Tribe:
"We listened to you regarding the Empire of Coldvar, and we will only take one province from them, so as to honor our previous word. But if they attack us back then we fear that we'll have to put more resources into taking more provinces from them. And this, obviously, means having to take back more resources from them as payment for the costs we are to incur attacking them.

What news of the orcs you said that you'll give as tribute?"

Send the above message to the Broken Tooth Tribe

The Defender's Fjord (message 1 of 1):
The last emissaries had returned, along with a messenger from the Clan Frostbeard. The King saw the look in the dwarf’s eye. “Inform Dralvik we have not yet attacked, but the trolls have been seen moving so we will soon.” The dwarf nodded and left. A few scouts walked in and each gave him a scroll. The first, from the West, informing of the downfall of Curufinwe and securing of the West. The next from Gundabad. A rejection of the King’s request. He slammed his fist on the table. The last, from the South. Sir, the Orcs of Snicklefritz are moving north. Another slam of the fist. And then, something unexpected happened. A green dwarf came in. He said, “You, King failed to protect us in our time of need. You are an enemy of Tulin Ironflow and the Woodland Enclave.” The King bellowed. “You speak lies. We sent 800 of our best warriors to help you. But they got stopped in Upper Anduin by an Orcish and Troll attack. Here take the order as proof to your King.” The King calmed down, and sent the dwarf off. A final slam of the fist. “So many enemies. You! Tell Dralvik I am being attacked on all sides, and I need him to beat the trolls and come to my aid quickly. I will attack High Pass.

Attack High Pass with half of army in Upper Anduin. Leave rest of army and hero.

Clan Frostbeard (message 1 of 1):

"You have expanded so much that you even lost the Favors of the Gods while we are down to just a capitol and a few provinces; Until the situation gets mended, you are our enemies.", Dralvik read and in his eyes went wild. He shatter the message and with a scream of the top of his lungs said: "You slothful moss-bearded paltry two-faced oath-breaker!"; the scream made echo all across the war camp.

The old Commander Toremrouk entered the tent and asked: "What's going on? What happened?", asked while graving his bead.

The king looked at the commander in the eye and said: "This happend!", while lifting the shattered pieces of the parchment and continued: "This son of a limestone just clamed that the Clan Frostbeard didn't help the Wooden Enclave, oh!... and better yet he call us his enemy, his enemies!", Dralvik lift a stool and thow it to the ground with great force.

"Enemies?", asked Commander Toremrouk: "But who said that?".

"The liege of the Wooden Enclave... this, this Tulin Ironflower... this Oath-breaker!", responded Dralvik while still kicking the stool: "I can not understand his actions?, after the message I sent, Did he even know how to read?..."

"The Wooden Enclave's liege said that?", said Commander Toremrouk while frowing and joining Dralvik into kicking the stool.

While cholerically both dwarves were kicking the stool, a lieutenant entered the tent: "mmm... my lords..."

Dralvik stopped kicking the stool and adjusted his garment and clear his throat: "Aye, what is it lieutenant?", and kicked the stool one more time.

The lieutenant said: "We, we have recived a message from Steward Frulvik, he has managed to muster more forces and thane Nrulvim send some Iron-breaker to Khazâd-gund too. Also Commander Baldur have send word, the terrain in Upper Rudhaur is ready, the defences were built and are ready to siege the trolls".

"Very well", Dralvik said and approached the war table and took a look. He moved some pieces and made a sign to Commander Toremrouk whom was still kicking the stool: "Commander, what you think?"

Toremrouk swiped out the sweat in his forehead and adjusted his garment: "Let me see", the old dwarf moved a couple of metal pieces and correct some of the moves made by Dralvik: "I think, with this maneuver we don't let the North so open".

"Aye, old friend I like your plan better", Dralvik said: "Lieutenant! please go find me a lumber axe, in the mean time I will write down the orders"

"Right away sir", the liutenant said.

"A lumber axe Dralvik? I think we already beat that stool pretty cool...", said Commander Toremrouk while laughing.

Dralvik laughed while he was writing: "No my friend, its a message you'll see...", and the king proceed to write down the orders.

The lieutenant came back with an old rusty lumber axe to the tent: "My lord this is the only one the carpenters were not using".

"Thats perfect!", said Dralvik and took it. He put the lumber axe on a table and with a knife carve in the handle "OATH-BREAKER" and gave the axe to the lieutenant: "There send this axe to Tulin Ironflop of the Wooden Enclave, make sure that a Wooden Enclave's dwarf give the axe to their liege add some coins to that deliver", said Dralvik.

"Right away, my lord", said the lieutenant.

Toremrouk gave the scrolls to the lieutenant and said: "And here are the messages, you have your orders lieutenant"

The lieutenant bowed and left the tent.

----

Sends an old and rusty lumber axe with the word "OATH-BREAKER" engrave of the handle to Tulin Ironflow of the Wooden Enclave. (Declares Tulin an enemy of the Clan Frostbeard and an oath-breaker)

Moves 720 soldiers from Forochel to Upper Rudhaur.
Moves 385 soldiers from Forochel to Angmar.

The Empire of Coldvar (message 1 of 1):

The camp has been busy for a while now as the Emperor's soldiers prepare for war. The Emperor has been sending scouting parties to each of the Empires provinces. They are told to watch for foreign soldiers.

Emperor Nikolai stands watching the sea. He has sent messages to the reinforcements at the capital.

A young boy runs up to him holding a scroll. The Emperor grabs the scroll and begins to read. After he is finished he rolls it up and walks back to his tent.

The message received:
"Greetings from the Humans of Arthedain, from King Minyatur, the rightful heir to the throne of Arthedain! The forces of the North, the elves of Elvea-Falasse, the dwarves of Clan Frostbeard and the humans of Arthedain, all strike in force the provinces of the elves of Etyangoldi Alliance and of the trolls of Trollshaw Realm.

Soon, our two factions are to border one another. I have to ask you, are you a friend or a foe? Do you eye the human kingdom of Arthedain, to unite it with your own? Or do you think we can find peace and understanding among ourselves and direct our attention to the East of the realm?"

Nikolai sits at his desk to write a reply.

To the Kingdom of Arthedain:

Greetings King Minyatur, my name is Emperor Nikolai Naves. I'm the Emperor of Coldvar. I have no quarrel with you as of right now. The Empire is looking to expand, but it is not the time.

So, we are neither friend nor foe.

The Emperor rolls the scroll up and calls for the messenger.

General Elkins walks in.

"The troops are ready, sir."

"Good. I've called for more soldiers from the capital. We should have more soldiers if this war kicks off."

"Yes, sir."

The general leaves. Nikolai stands about to walk out, but stops. He turns and sits at his desk. He grabs another scroll and begins to write.....

------------------------------------------

2210 soldiers from Andrast march to Anfalas.

Send the messenger back, to the Kingdom of Arthedain, with the neutral message.

.
.

Elvea-Falasse (message 1 of 1):

The rain did little to lift the sternness from the faces of the soldiers as they marched to Northern Cardolan. The leaders of Elvea-Falasse fretted much with the possible entrance of the Trolls of Ettenmoor and the treachery of the Dwarves in Mirkwood. The dispossession of Curufinwe's government and the establishment of, what they hoped, would be a descendant of the olden rulers of Eregion, a man or elf that was upright and worthy of the regency, along with the liberation of the Redhorn Gate was on the minds of all. Not to mention the situation to the north and northeast. Cirdan began to toy with the idea of him just walking into Hollin and seeing what would happen, perhaps he would die, perhaps his kin under the Etyangoldi yoke would rise up and finally be free. King Minyatur was kept informed on Elvea-Falasses part of trying to get in contact with the men south of the White Mountains.

To the Coldvar Empire
Dear Emperor,
Hello this is Cirdan of the elves of Lindon. Please excuse my continued petitions but both me and my friends in the Arthedain Kingdom would like to establish relations with. Elvea-Falasse and the Arthedain Kingdom seek the liberation of Hollin and the defeat of the dwarves in Mirkwood who betrayed their fellow dwarves and killed our delegation.
Respectfully yours,
Cirdan

Move the forces in The Shire and Mithlond and combine in Northern Cardolan

.
.

Corsairs of Umbar (message 2 of 2):

The Corsairs of Umbar are preparing their troops for an invasion into the Empire of Coldvar. The humans insulted the Corsairs, and have to sign off at least a province of their lands into the acumen hands of the pirat..err, mighty corsairs of the waters.

Commander Angamaith is waiting for the orc reinforcements promised by the Broken Tooth Tribe, in Lebennin, where the bulk of the Corsair's forces are to gather and make plans for the diversion.

Move all forces to Lebennin
Wait an answer regarding soldier tributes from Broken Tooth Tribe

Kingdom of Arthedain (message 1 of 1):

After conquering back the lands of Enedhwaith, the old sage from Lond Daer harbor that requested protection from King Minyatur was free again to go back to his secluded hut. But after the King saw the destruction of the sanctuary with his own eyes, King Minyatur proposed to the sage that he is more than welcomed to ride along with his troops, at least until they find a better and more suitable area to rebuild his sanctuary. In return, the King asked for council.

The sage agreed to be on the King's retainer if the King aids with the costs of rebuilding a sanctuary for him and his followers, if he has any or any want to join him in meditation; King Minyatur accepted. With this occasion the King asked what was the Sage's name, to which he replied that he does not have a name, but that others refer to him as Fëanáro the Sage, and that he, too, could call him as such.

King Minyatur asked the Sage what was his opinion on the current state of affairs of the land, to which the Sage replied the following:
"King Minyatur, you've conquered many lands and your kingdom is now grand. You've done all of this yourself, with the blood of many of your own troops. What assistance have the elves of Elvea-Falasse given to you? Other than words, when it suited them? Have you had any replies from the elves? Any decisions they wanted to do? Any push? Any combat?.

King, you have to know when to stop while you're ahead, and when to concentrate on mending things for those that are still alive; the rest of Etyangoldi poses no threat to you, I'm sure of it! So why prolongue this conflict? I am sure that they would be sympathetic to your plea and accept peace. You have a mighty kingdom, and they surely are willing to be part of it by absorbtion rather than by destruction.

I see two paths in front of you; you could push on and soon enough combat the Etyangoldi in battle, perhaps invade their capitol and eliminated the threat or perhaps stay in limbo like the dwarves and the orcs of Gundabad. Or, you could ask for peace, and if you fear a future threat or retribution from Etyangoldi, ask for peace and for a soldier tribute, so that they lack the soldiers to attack.

That, King Minyatur, is what I have to say to you."

----
Attack Dunland with the forces of Minhiriath and Enedhwaith
Move army from Southern Arthedain to Cardolan

Broken Tooth Tribe (message 1 of 1):

Send a message to the Corsairs of Umbar informing them that the reinforcements have arrived in the capitol, and asking what they think a fair number of orc soldiers for the tribute would be.

Kingdom of Arthedain

In Cardolan, the fair sage Fëanáro just left the tent of the King after a lengthy discussion about the future of the realm. As per the sage idea, King Minyatur sent an emissary to the capitol of the Etyangoldi Alliance, with the following message:

"Since your King has perished the Etyangoldi Alliance is left in shambles. Soon enough the entirety of your provinces are to be absorbed into the Elvea-Falasse and Kingdom of Arthedain friendship pact and your armies are to be most certainly destroyed in battle.

I propose to you to consider the following; we'll have peace with you if, and only if, you with relocate your capitol and swap your two remaining provinces to other provinces of our own; We offer to you the provinces of Minhiriath and Enedhwaith, on the shores of the Eriadoran coastline. Being so means that you are no longer able to provide assistance to the trolls of Trollshaw Realm since you are no longer bordering them, and will leave them to meet their own demise at the hands of the dwarves, and, perhaps, some assistance from the elves and humans."

The King smiled. The sage's idea was excellent; moving the Etyangoldi to these two lands meant less protection for the Trollshaw Realm and, mostly, meant a buffer against the Empire of Coldvar, if they ever wished to encroach due North into Middle Earth.

"You must answer with extra haste, since our armies are preparing to march onto Hollin, your capitol, where your soldiers will certainly meet their death. At stake is your lives and your faction's continuous existance.

If you do agree, then we'll swap in turn; First, we will swap your capitol with Enedhwaith. And in the next turn, we will swap the Redhorn Gate with Minhiriath. Obviously, to safeguard our own realm and ensure peace among our two factions, 2000 of your soldiers are to be given as tribute; the same number would anyway die in the engagement if we were to meet in battle in Hollin.

We await your answer."

The message was sent, and now all that remained was to wait. The sage also brought forth the matter of the ring, a past present from Curufinwe Fallenstar, the now-dead past ruler of the Etyangoldi; now that he is gone, Fëanáro the Sage ascertained that the ring can be made safe from any wrongs, and could be worn; especially if it said to have some magical enchantments.

Therefore, the sage agreed to look into the ring and see if its emanating power is now dangerous or if the dangers perished with the creator's demise. King Minyatur gave the ring to Fëanáro the Sage so he can further study it.

----
Send an offer of peace to the Etyangoldi Alliance if they agree to swap lands; Hollin (capitol) to Enedhwaith and Redhorn Gate to Minhiriath, as well as 2000 soldiers tribute.
If not, then an attack on Hollin is imminent.

Woodland Realm

Tulin Ironflow received the parchment from the dwarves of King Alexius Comnenus; it did show that they had orders to come to assist the Woodland Realm in the time of need, but that they got engaged in another battle and missed the call. Tulin calmed himself and was sympathetic to the plight of the dwarves of the Defender's Fjord; he also understood that the Clan Frostbeard engaged with the Trolls because the Trolls had a target for the lands of Woodland Realm. However, he was less than satisfied with the way the Clan Frostbeard dwarves conducted themselves in the tri-dwarf alliance. Of them both, only the Clan Frostbeard turned to enemy and called it to their face.

All in all, old wounds are now mending; the Dwarves of Woodland Realm no longer consider the two dwarves as enemies of the Woodland. Moreover, an offer for friendship was set forth to the Defender's Fjord, so that they, together, can assault the Trolls or the orcs, leaving the Clan Frostbeard dwarves "high and dry".

----
Cease to consider Clan Frostbeard and The Defender's Fjord as enemies
Send an alliance request to the Defender's Fjord, with the goal of attacking either the trolls or the orcs.

Druwaith Folk

The Dru folk lamented losing the Druadan Forests in Ithilien, their place of meditation and gathering. Yes, they made a home of the Foothills, but in secret still sighted for the land of Ithilien, now captured by the Corsairs of Umbar. Secret whispers mentioned about the Corsairs leaving soon, but whispers not always get materialized.

Primitive or not, the Dru folk started to be contempt living in these strange new lands; other than the Foothills and the forests of Fangorn, the rest of the lands now currently in the Dru possesion are already inhabited by other races, and these races are not extremely content with their new rulers. The Druadain know that they are not easy to look at, maybe not as smart as others, but they're fierce enough so that if others make them mad they know how to retaliate. But the Druadain are not stupid, and they know not to retaliate against a 5000'force dominion ...

So the Dru started to see about their new lands. Their society was never one to work the land as they spent most of their times secluded from the world, in caves or cast away from the eyes of the outsiders, deep in forests. They know magic, so maybe that's a good starting point; Gather magic.

IC

Trollshaw Realm

The Trollshaws are in check, if ever such an expression existed in these lands. The dwarves of Clan Frostbeard are masters at combat, piling enough dwarves at the borders so that the Trolls have no chance of winning, while keeping their other borders secure. And now as the other side is vulnerable to the attack from the Defender's Fjord, things are dire.

Torogok understood. He was defeated. Technically, not yet, but defeated he was. The last hopes were from the elves of Etyangoldi, but he received no news from them; is as if the Etyangoldi are transitioning into something else, the only moment when they replied was when the Etyangoldi asked for assistance.

Ohh how things fell. From a good dominion, from punishing the humans of the land that enslaved past trolls, from meeting with the dwarves in good omen, to being tricked by the dwarves and to playing this back and forth game of trench wars. And all because Torogok showed on a map the pinpoint of the faction that declared war on them!

If the Etyangoldi decide to help, its still time. But Torogok felt that the Etyangoldi are as dead as his faction soon is to be. If not for diplomacy. Even if he had a spiteful feeling in his throat regarding the dwarves, he would contact the dwarves of the Clan Frostbeard:
"Dwarves of Dralvik,

We yield. You've won. Lets cease our unfortunate hostilities and return to past relations. You've conquered most of our lands and destroyed our morale. We're nothing more than trolls lamenting for our past glory, locked in Ettenmoors. Let us have peace and turn unto others."

----
Send a peace request to the Clan Frostbeard
Still await an answer from Etyangoldi Alliance

OOC:

The Corsairs of Umbar will refrain from posting an IC message for a fair while, just to be sure if the other player still wants to join or not; haven't had a reply from him in the past days. I wouldn't want to, ahem, poke the Empire of Coldvar and leave him to play with the ire of a dragon!

Defender’s Fjord

Finally, a dwarf from Mirkwood arrived. “My King sees your evidence of help sent, and would like to rekindle the alliance we shared, against the trolls and the orcs.” Alexius sat for a few moments, deep in thought. “Very well. We agree.” The King paused. “Tell your King this is our plan. We will attack Ettenmoors with Dralvik when he is ready, thereby essentially eliminating the trolls. Then we turn north and eliminate the Orcs of Gundabad. Meanwhile a sizeable contingent of my forces will confront the Broken Tooth Tribe, who is advancing towards my territory. Also, so he is aware, we have an alliance with Dralvik, and we are not to attack the elves of Elvea-Falasse and the humans of Arthedain.” Alexius calls in a runner to relay the return of the Woodland Enclave to the fold, and the plan above to Dralvik. The King thinks, I need an advantage to help against the Orcs of Snickelfritz. Then he realizes the Druwaith were attacked by the Corsairs, who are allied with Snicklefritz. “I have an idea” he says to himself.

Agree to alliance with the Woodland Enclave
Inform Clan Frostbeard of this development
Propose a friendship with the Druwaith Folk against their mutual enemy, the Broken Tooth Tribe

GM Message

The "Some winds in the realm" part is changing from now and will be in effect as follows:
- Having 1 province over the "limit" for each nation draws some ire from the forces of the world
- Having more than 1 province over the "limit" draws more danger, and is proportional to how many provinces you go over the limit.

- If you are over the limit, you can't benefit from any bonuses for attacking other factions that are also over the limit
-- this is now changed to: --
- If you are over the limit, you can benefit from bonuses that are mentioned in the "some winds in the realm" first part of the Update Dispatch for attacking other factions that have at least 2 extra provinces more than you.

SO, BEFORE:
if you have a max of 5 provinces and you now have 6, you wouldn't get any bonuses for attacking a faction of 6, 7, 8, ..., 12, 13, 14 etc. provinces.
NOW:
a) if you have a max of 5 provinces and you now have 6, you can get bonuses for attacking a faction of 8, 9, 10, etc. provinces. You can't get bonuses for attacking a faction of 7 provinces as its just +1 more and not +2 more.
b) if you have a max of 5 provinces and you now have 8, you can only get bonuses for attacking a faction of 10, 11, 12 etc. provinces. You can't get bonuses for attacking a faction of 6, 7, 8 or 9 provinces as they're less than +2 more than you have.

Kingdom of Arthedain

Fëanáro the Sage called the King to him; he has news regarding the ring that was offered once ago by Curufinwe Fallenstar.

"King Minyatur, upon a meticulous search of this artefact it does seem to possess some particular magical properties, however they lay dormant as if the source of power has been estinguished. It has been crafted and inbued with magic by techniques long forgotten, so I wouldn't even hazard to guess who else, other than the late King Curufinwe, still knows how to tap into these secrets.

The ring can be extremely powerful, if you find a way to activate it. As it is, the ring is as powerful as you make it; you can wear it and feel indestructible or you can wear it and feel nothing. It's all in your mind. I may be able to unlock its secrets if I study the place where the ring was crafted; there ought to be some clues left there."

To which the King replied:
"Thank you, my sage. I will keep the ring safely until we can unlock its full potential and strip it of any outside danger. And from all of the intelligence we have, I reckon that that place's the Redhorn Gate. Hopefully we can get that territory from the Etyangoldi without a fight as I've sent them an ultimatum, just as you proposed,"

And the sage replied:
"Excellent choice. Then let me keep the ring, as I'll conduct further experiments on it."

King Minyatur gave the ring to the sage and went back to his day.

Etyangoldi Alliance

After the chaos earlier and the most recent lack of leadership, the forces in the capitol province of Hollin appear to come to life again.

There's no heir to ascend to the throne, there's no central command, so, basically, no-one officially has assumed control of the faction. Yet, things are moving again, as if the armies are receiving their orders from somewhere.

There are black smoke clouds over Redhorn Gate.
