A Soviet television adaptation of The Lord of the Rings thought to have been lost to time was rediscovered and posted on YouTube last week, delighting Russian-language fans of JRR Tolkien.

The 1991 made-for-TV film, Khraniteli, based on Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, is the only adaptation of his Lord of the Rings trilogy believed to have been made in the Soviet Union.

Great catch with the Russian LOTR links!
The cinematics of that time period .. at times it felt a bit like watching the Wizard of Oz.
I am fairly certain that people will add subtitles sometimes soon; until then we have just the audio-auto-generated subtitles that can be translated into english, with funny results at times.

I blame Saruman.

I also add to that list another notable name that ceased to exist, Lady eowyn.
Wish them all safe and enjoyable times in RL and hopefully to see them return to Middle Earth!

I've got a theme for the RP:
Beleriand rises up from the depths of the sea in third age with large portion of its elven population revived, right after bilbo's quest for erebor.

I'm fairly certain that this is not the last of you that we'll see around here! But RL always has priority and you will be missed by Middle Earth; You were one of the few in recent times that took care of our regional message board, sharing activity and contributing, so things will certainly move a little slowly now. Best of luck to you!

This is sad news indeed!

March Elections

Wischland was elected in a landslide delegate election, and transitioned to the role soon after announcement of victory. Meanwhile, Zaberaz hapang secured their bid for Himes West after an uncontested campaign. Finally, Lyonnesse East saw the most activity, with both Porflox and Kohnhead running serious campaigns for the seat. After a close and exciting week of voting, Kohnhead emerged victorious. Porflox was however soon appointed to serve as Blue Canaria North after an opening for the seat appeared following Wischland's successful bid for delegate.

~The Council of Nine repealed The House Continuity and Closure Act due to its redundancy after The House Closure Requirement Reform Act was passed.

Around the Islands

~Porymonia was named featured nation for March thanks to their extremely prolific posting in A Taco Archipelago, our RP region. At more than 27,000 posts, they have posted many thousand times more than anyone else! More can be read here.

~Eastern New England has won our Extraterrestrial Encounter theme contest! You can read more about this Linkhere.

~Our forum has long been overdue for a makeover, and Free Las Pinas has sure stepped up for the job! In an very close voting, they narrowly beat out the competition, and their Pastel Palms theme will soon be the default look of our forum!

Islander Achievements

~10000 Islands's RP region A Taco Archipelago in its just under one year of existence has beaten out 10000 Islands's post count in the past 10 years (since the creation of RMB archives)!

~The Mad Surfer published its last issue this month (here) because of increased Real Life obligations and the increase in regional news bulletins which you can read more about in the article. Thank you Jabberwocky for the continued editorship and the entire staff for creating an amazing newspaper for three whole years!

XKI Game-Side

A regional poll by Jabberwocky asked Islanders what device they'd want to have. Lightsabers from star wars overwhelmingly won, mostly due to islanders having no clue about what the other ones were.

The RMB this month was filled with many insightful conversations, and some more comical ones.

~Are we mining cheese?
~April Fools! Kind of... not really
~The Drew before Drew
~Interesting waste disposal
~My oldest memory is...
~I wisch for a pun!
~I find your lack of derrieres pleasant
~Aliens? No problem!

Until next month, your XKI Update Staff is signing off!

Incredible. Thank you for posting.

I don't know what exactly I was expecting, but that musical intro was certainly not it. Hilarious. And this version of the Shire is simply fantastic. Russian Village Shire is quite a thing to behold. I look forward to watching the rest.

That was the very same comparison that came to mind for me, as well. Can't place exactly why.

I am extremely happy to hear the most recent news from you, Lindon-rivendell!

Granted things could have been better, but it's a win either way. Eyesight is one of the most underrated senses ... you take it for granted until you get in trouble and recognize its real value.

Thoughts?

Roleplays are something I am not actively part of, but I would support any such activities. Probably its best to be roleplayed in the NS forums, but the theme suggestion sounds interesting. Have you thought of any particular reason why Beleriand rises up again?

They see that Sauron is back, so Ulmo, Mandos and Lorien thought it was a good idea to help them a bit, by bringing back thousands of elves who drowned there, so that they can help in the fight, instead, quarter of the elves try to go immideatly back to valinor, ulmo pushes them back onto middle earth, so we have about 2k pi**ed off elves, 6k ready to fight for whats right, a pi**ed of rest of valar,
this can be changed and tweaked, as you want, but i want my lindon whole(ossiriand)

How does everyone feel about the new Lord of the Rings tv series show from Amazon that is said to launch by the end of 2021? Is the "Lord of the Rings" name suitable for the action happening, most likely, in the Second Age?
