The Prime Minister: I will propose a different name for the region to AMAN

Anara: The Prime Minister of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin will hold discussions with Association of Melayu Archipelago Nations (AMAN) leaders to propose a different name for the region.

Tun Rendra Usin said, besides Eraman, there are other Melayu Archipelago countries such as Pemecutan, Sharktail, Southern Palm Islands, etc who were never part of the Meilawati Empire, which is where the current region name, Melayu Archipelago came from.

"I do not agree with the idea of using the name Melayu to name the whole region when in fact, nearly half of the region has no ties whatsoever with the neighboring ancient Meilawati Empire. I will discuss this matter with other leaders of AMAN countries who were never part of Meilawati in ancient times," he said in the People's Council.

He said this to answer a question from Nyoman Jari, the MP for Ketu from the opposition Mitra and Soma Reform Party who wanted to know if the government is comfortable with the meaning of the letter M in AMAN.

Sendhang

President Paulus Etamba received a visit from the Prime Minister of Eraman Tun Rendra Usin, at the Kambang Palace a day after Sendhang's 2-1 defeat at home against Tumbra in the 91st World Cup qualifiers. Tun Rendra Usin arrived in front of the Kambang Palace at 9:00 am and was immediately greeted by President Paulus Etamba. The two leaders then introduced each other to their respective delegates.

After the introduction of each delegation, President Paulus Etamba and Prime Minister Tun Rendra Usin entered the palace to sign the guest book and conduct a photo session. The two leaders then went into a closed room for a one-on-one talk. They discussed several trade issues such as the paddy and other agricultural products export and petroleum import as well as regional issues.

Among the regional issues discussed in the discussion is the region name. The two leaders agreed that there is a need for a region name change as the current name, Melayu does not represent the whole region. There were several names tossed out by the two leaders in the discussion such as Nusantara (the islands in between) and Nusarampai (the spice islands) but it was not discussed further.

The two leaders ended the discussion after almost 3 hours and went out of the closed room for a joint press conference.

"We, the Prime Minister of Eraman Tun Rendra Usin and the President of Sendhang President Paulus Etamba, both agreed to a region name change," announced Tun Rendra Usin at the press conference after the meeting between the two leaders at the Kambang Palace in Kambang, the capital city of Sendhang.

Tun Rendra Usin has announced his intention of proposing a new name for the region in a sitting at the People's Council but this was the first time it was agreed by another country's leader. That was the main highlight of Tun Rendra Usin's official visit to Sendhang. The news about the agreed higher petroleum export into Sendhang took the second page of the local newspapers. The front page was dominated by the news about the agreement of President Paulus Etamba on a new name for the region. Even the amazing 2-1 win for Eraman away at the more-fancied Milchama in the 91st World Cup qualifiers failed to take the headlines away from Tun Rendra Usin's visit to Sendhang.

It was received favorably in Eraman with the majority of Eramanians thanking the President of Sendhang for his agreement to a name change. This is because Eraman was never part of the Meilawati Empire. In fact, Eramanians folklore often depicts Meilawati Empire as the villain and enemy. In ancient times during the existence of the Meilawati Empire, Eraman was part of the Sripala Empire alongside what is now Pemecutan, Sharktail, Southern Palm Islands, and part of Sendhang. And the two empires don't get along. They competed to be the trading hub. They disputed over borders. And they fought a lot of wars.

Eramanian kings who claimed to be the direct descendants of Sripala emperors continued to offer patronage to Sripala literature way after the fall of Sripala to give themselves more legitimacy, and this literature often portrays Meilawati as the bad guy. The Eramanian public, after centuries of indoctrination by the palace, shared the sentiment that the Meilawati Empire and subsequently Samudera Darussalam must be viewed with suspicion. Hence, they rejoice when Sendhang who was half Meilawati, and half Sripala in ancient times agreed to change the region's name from Melayu which is derived from Meilawati to something else.

Sendhang

While the agreement of President Paulus Etamba on the need for a new name for the region was received favorably in Eraman, it was a different story in Sendhang. Things are more complicated in the landlocked country. It's easy for Eraman because they were never part of the Meilawati Empire. Sendhang on the other hand was divided between the two empires with Meilawati in the north and west while Sripala in the southeast. And those in the north and west opposed the name change.

The sentiment against the name change was made clear the most in Tapaklaboh, the state capital of Putrasia. The Chief Minister of Putrasia, Teuku Arif was quick to slam President Paulus Etamba through his social media account just a few hours after the joint press conference between the President of Sendhang, Paulus Etamba, and the Prime Minister of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin.

"The proposal to change the name of the region is a systematic attack by the Paulus Etamba-led federal government to erase Putrasian's history and culture," he posted.

His post gained popularity and was widely shared among Putrasians. They were not happy with the proposal. Paulus Etamba who was already not popular in Putrasia suddenly becomes the most hated man in the southwestern state. This is because of the unique relationship Putrasians have with Meilawati. Every single Putrasian claims to be descended from Meilawati princes who fled Bandar Raja after the fall of the empire, hence why every male Putrasian name starts with Teuku (prince) while the female name starts with Cut (princess). Even the name Putrasia means islands of princes.

President Paulus Etamba expected this backlash from the Putrasians but he was confident that things will be under control.

"It will not be more than a social media outrage," he told his close circles.

At first, it does look like it's going to be no more than a social media outrage. But something was clearly happening on the ground as thousands of Putrasians crossed the Putrasia Bridge into Kambang, the capital city of Sendhang for the 91st World Cup qualifying match against Montesina waving the Free Putrasia Movement flag, a week after Paulus Etamba-Rendra Usin joint press conference. This is the first time in decades that the Free Putrasia Movement flag was seen waved in public.

The atmosphere at the Persekutuan Stadium which is packed with 40,000 Sendhanghites was electric. It's a must-win match for the Sendhang national team who lost their first two matches of the campaign away at Tumbra and Zwangzug. And the fans were behind the team, at least in the first half. Sendhang was already up by 3-1 at half-time thanks to a brace from Teuku Salahudin and a goal from Ramon Kalbasi.

Then, as the referee blew his whistle to start the second half, a section of the fan opened a giant Free Putrasia Movement tifo. The giant tifo was displayed for almost 5 minutes before the police were instructed to take it down. Some fans were arrested but luckily, the match was undisturbed and the score remained at 3-1 until the full-time whistle. The match, however, has opened up a deep wound in Sendhang as a nation.

The Prime Minister of Eraman, Tun Rendra Usin did not expect his visit to Sendhang would cause dissatisfaction among the populace in the Mainland Melayu country. That was never his intention. He was there mainly to export more petroleum from Eraman into Sendhang.

The discussion about the proposal of a new name for the region with the President of Sendhang was supposed to be just a sideshow. It had to be done because he had made a promise about it in the People's Council. It was just an act to show his seriousness in fulfilling his promise. He was never serious about it, though. It was done because the general election is coming.

He had one year left in his five years term. Despite making lots of progress in his first four years as the prime minister, his popularity went down a lot after introducing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) last year. Even Eraman's first-ever Melayu Archipelago Cup title earlier this year failed to get Tun Rendra Usin back into a comfortable position. Maybe the title win was too soon after the introduction of GST. Maybe. We don't know. But we know that it was not helping. So he had to do everything he can to win the people back.

His popularity went up a bit after the joint press conference with President Paulus Etamba. It could also be helped by Eraman's strong start in the 91st World Cup qualifying campaign. However, the prime minister thought it was still not enough. The latest opinion polling shows that Tun Rendra Usin only had the support of 41% of the voters, followed closely by the opposition leader, Nura Rabima at 39%.

There had been calls for a snap election by his party members because of the 2% lead but Tun Rendra Usin thought it was too risky. The 10% undecided voters could go either way. So he decided that he needed more time. He wanted to go into the election in a strong position. And after seeing the effect of his visit to Sendhang, he knows exactly what to do.

"We have more countries to visit," he said to his personal assistant.

Who would have expected that the match against Montesina would have sparked the Free Putrasia Movement again?

The armed separatist organization whose aim was to establish an independent Putrasia nation was thought to have been contained almost two decades ago. But the giant Free Putrasia Movement tifo which was displayed for five minutes during the match against Montesina in Kambang brought it back to light. Everyone on the social media was talking about it, especially in the two southern states, Putrasia and Nainha who had always viewed each other suspiciously. Putrasians accused President Paulus Etamba and Nainhans in general of marginalizing them and trying to systematically abolish their culture and history. While Nainhans accused Putrasians of extremism and terrorism.

The tension between the two states was made worse after a Liga Super Sendhang match between KS Tapaklaboh and KS Larantuka, the two most successful clubs in Putrasia and Nainha respectively. It was an ugly scene in Tapaklaboh, the state capital of Putrasia as some of the away fans returned home injured after a brawl between the fans. The match itself was marred with unsporting conduct as the referee was forced to hand out a red card to each side, Teuku Hassan Al-Qari for KS Tapaklaboh and Niko Kefalo for KS Larantuka, both Sendhang national team players. To make it worse, the match was just a week before the international break.

The divide in the national team squad was first seen when they made the trip to Legalese. On the pitch, it was like nothing happened. They played very well to beat Legalese, keeping a clean sheet in the process. Everything looks fine. But it's not. The Tapaklaboh and Larantuka players don't talk to each other anymore since the start of the international break. The squad was divided into three camps; the Tapaklaboh players with their Putrasians ally, the Larantuka players and their Nainhans ally, and the rest of the squad.

The mood in the national team was at its all-time low. Even the 4-0 win at home against Sajnur, their third win in a row was unable to lift the players' morale. It was quiet in the dressing room after the match. They have just won 4-0 but there was no sign of excitement among the players.

That was when Albertus Wageo, the team captain stepped up.

"Listen!" he broke the silence. "This needs to stop," he continues.

"Where are we going, my boss?" Samin Jali, the prime minister's personal assistant asked his boss.

"Sargossa!" the prime minister replied.

"But... Would not it be better if we go to another Melayuan country? It would be great for you if we can get some other Melayuan countries' leaders to agree on the region's name change," replied Samin Jali, not satisfied with the prime minister's answer.

"Tell me which Melayuan country should I go to?"

"I don't know. Sharktail?"

"That's too risky. They were never part of Meilawati but they have been heavily Meilawaticized after the fall of Sripala. We don't know their stand yet,"

"How about Acastanha?"

"Too busy with their own election,"

"Pemecutan?"

"Busy playing geopolitics fixing referendum in some poor country down south,"

"Samudera Darussalam?"

"Come on now. That's the last place we should go to. That's the birthplace of Meilawati. They will never agree to change the name of the region. It feels like you are just spewing random Melayuan countries' names now. Enough. We are going to Sargossa to watch some football,"

Samin Jali was surprised by the route that the prime minister wanted to take. He was not sure if going to a football match can boost his boss' popularity. Moreover, his boss has never been a football fan. But that was the start of Tun Rendra Usin's attendance at Eraman's national team matches. First in Pasirpura for the home match against Lumbinipur where they won comfortably with a 5-1 scoreline. Then to Sargossa where they were trashed 5-0.

Despite the trashing at Sargossa, Tun Rendra Usin's popularity went up a little bit. His theatrics off the pitch, sitting alongside the traveling away fans, refusing to sit with the VIPs, and picking up trash after the match won the heart of some Eramanians. Samin Jali may have doubted his boss' way but it was working. And since then, the prime minister had never missed a single match involving the Eraman national team.

No one was listening to the team captain's speech after the match against Sajnur. His speech on the need for a united team went on deaf ears, especially among the KS Tapaklaboh players who genuinely think that they were marginalized by their Nainhans counterparts.

The division among the players was made worse after that. The Putrasians only sit with the Putrasians while the Nainhans only sit with the Nainhans as they made the trip to Ceni for their 7th match in the 91st World Cup qualifiers.

That was when the local media first noticed the division among the players. They managed to hide it in the last 2 matches with victories but their body language during the 1-0 defeat at Ceni which ended their 3 matches win streak raised the eyebrow of some Sendhangites. And the rumors began.

"Tapaklaboh-Larantuka feud in the national team?" published on the back page of the Muaradano Times.

Hundreds of fans and media practitioners waited for the team at the Kambang International Airport as they return from Ceni to confirm the story. But none of the players opened their mouths.

The media practitioners though, knowing that the story will sell, started to follow the squad. They gathered outside of the team hotel. They followed the team to their training session. They followed the squad everywhere and every day until the day the national team played Adab at the Stadium Persekutuan in Kambang.

They ended the international break with a 6-3 loss to Adab. And by then, the whole country has believed that there is trouble in the national team.

The prime minister, Tun Rendra Usin was at Mon Sold for Eraman's 91st World Cup qualifying match when Wayan Bedal made the announcement.

"I've been thinking for a long time. The people want me to resign. So, I am resigning from all positions in the government and the Mitra and Soma Nationalist Party (MSNP) with immediate effect," announced Wayan Bedal in front of thousands of his supporters in the front yard of his house in Tunga, Mitra.

Tun Rendra Usin has been angry at Wayan Bedal for almost a year now. Despite being part of the government, the Tunga MP had been vocal against Tun Rendra Usin since the introduction of GST last year. The announcement made the prime minister even angrier at his former Rural Development Minister.

"Ungrateful son of a pig," he said after he was made aware of the announcement, cutting short his joy after Eraman's 3-2 victory over Mon Sold.

The relationship between the two has actually soured even before Tun Rendra Usin introduced GST. It actually started after the last general election, when Wayan Bedal's request to be appointed as the Chief Minister of Mitra was rejected by the prime minister in favor of the incumbent and MSNP vice president, Made Lesmana.

Nevertheless, everyone was shocked when Wayan Bedal made the announcement. No one saw it coming. No one expected the Rural Development Minister to resign. But there was something that Wayan Bedal knew that everybody didn't know. He knew of the plan to sack him for being too vocal. So he made the first move by resigning from all positions. And a few days later, the Mitra Heritage Party was announced with Wayan Bedal as its president.

The prime minister, Tun Rendra Usin was visibly mad that day. Not because of the national team's 1-0 defeat at home against Banija the day before, he was happy with their performance against the world number 5. But because of the announcement made by the government of Acastanha.

"Spineless," he complained about the government of Acastanha to Samin Jali, his personal assistant cum special officer.

"In a sense, they were right, my boss. We need to take this to AMAN," the prime minister's right-hand man replied.

"I don't care if they are right or not. Their announcement made my approval rating drop by a half percent," said the angry prime minister.

"So, what should we do now, my boss?"

"I want you to do two things. Firstly, get out of my office, release an official statement welcoming the statement made by Acastanha and call for an AMAN assembly. Secondly, conduct an opinion poll in Acastanha. I want to know the chance of Benigno Karpanyo," instructed the prime minister.

"Benigno Karpanyo? The opposition leader of Acastanha?"

"Yes. He could be a friend. But first, we need to know his approval rating,"

"I don't like where this is going, my boss,"

"Just do it. And be discreet,"

"Consider it done, my boss,"

viewtopic.php?p=39615664#p39615664

The call by the fans to drop some of the national team players were not heeded by the national team head coach.

"This is the best players in the country, they are all professional and they are all here to win despite any differences they have among themselves," he said in the pre-match press conference a day before the match against Eshialand.

No changes were made by the head coach. The squad remained the same. So does the starting eleven. And the players re-paid their head coach's trust in them as they return to winning ways by beating Eshialand 2-1.

A few days later, the same starting eleven was fielded again as Sendhang entertained the visit of fellow Melayuan, The Hainan Union. They won 1-0 but the match was marred by the unthinkable as the only goalscorer of the match, Teuku Hassan Al-Qari celebrated his goal by making the Meilawati salute sign and singing the Free Putrasia Movement anthem with some section of the fans.

"Putrasia, forever independent," the chorus of the Free Putrasia Movement anthem was sung in the Federal Stadium.

Of course, it made some section of the fans uneasy that they had to boo their own goalscorer. Teuku Hassan Al-Qari had just become the most hated man in Sendhang outside of Putrasia. And the next day, Teuku Hassan Al-Qari was arrested at the Kambang International Airport before the squad traveled to Damukuni.

Samudera darussalam

Bandar Raja, Samudera Darussalam

There is a certain frenzy within the capital as members of the federal government are scrambling about in response to the joint declaration by Eraman and Sendhang. An emergency meeting is in order, as the Federation never really likes disturbance to the region's tranquility. There is also the fact that the Mangkubumi is a bit miffed at their neighbours' antics.

"Order, ladies and gentlemen, please calm down." The Mangkubumi ordered with loud, yet firm voice. "We must proceed to deliver our response, and it can't be done if we lose our heads."
The room fell into silence for a few minutes, before the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Intan Widyatama, decided to speak up.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Mangkubumi." She sighed. "It's just....we know there is always a degree of suspicion between both Samudera and Eraman despite the decades of our cooperation, but still, we feel a little blindsided by this declaration, with Sendhang nonetheless, which in my knowledge, we have always maintain a cordial relationship with."

"That.....is true, Ms. Widyatama." Kayang Muhammad replied curtly. "I'm sure that none of us are pleased with the current development. It presents quite a challenge for our regional cooperation. Still, do you maintain correspondence with the other states?"

"Acastanha has released a statement that they are neutral on the topic." She informed the room. "I have.....spoken with my fellow in their government, and they assured us that Acastanha is also shocked. It seems that they are not exactly happy either."

The Mangkubumi pondered over this thoughtfully, his left hand turned to fondle his chin. The rest of the cabinet, who are listening to this exchange quietly, turned to look to each other. After a while, Muhammad nodded to her, before continuing to ask.

"What about the other nations?"

Intan Widyatama turned to look down at her desk. In fact, she has no idea. She has not received any reply that indicates the other nations response to this aside from Acastanha. The brown eyed lady mused for a while about the best way to deliver this information, before she schooled her expression to blankness and turned to face the equally brown eyed Mangkubumi.

"As of now, I don't think we have any indication that the other nations are in favour or opposing this current development, as they are still busy with their own problems, not even from Pemecutan. I promise to get all of you updated in case this situation changes."

The Mangkubumi thanked her, before he turned to the rest of the room. "Then we shall move on to discuss the best course on how to respond, I believe?"

The cabinet meeting proceeded for a few hours, and then after the Majlis is informed about their decision (with only a few opposition then and there - quite predictably, from the nationalist right-wing factions that are not happy with the decision taken), the government released their statement in a press conference.

"The Federal Government is not pleased with the actions taken by the governments of Eraman and Sendhang, and we wish to ask our colleagues in these countries for further explanation. Nevertheless, we believe that compromise is the key to maintain the peace and stability in our region, and as those are in the Crowned Federation's best interest, we are not going to oppose this move if the majority of our neighbours have no problem with the proposed name change."
