Welcome to the Feb. 2020 LazCorp Development Team Elections!

The nomination period is now open and will stay open for 5 days. Please place your Developer nominations before the 25th for them to be counted.

I'll prolly nominate some other peoples later but for now...

Nominating: Guiness Freaks because beer and composting sound like a great combination for lovely leadership. =)

Hello everyone, I would like to throw some names into the nomination process. People who I observed to be really active on the RMB and a boon to the region. I haven't asked them beforehand, so remember: If you don't like being nominated, feel free to decline! There is no such thing as an involuntary nomination...

Nominations:
Mzeusia
Snoodum
Cossack Peoples
Glorious Society
Aigania

Remember, folks, I asked none of them before, but feel like all of them are an integral part of our community on the RMB and deserve a shot at influencing the region at large, even though they are not very or not at all active outside the RMB. If you haven't been mentioned, please don't feel down. Instead remember: You can nominate yourself as well!

i would like to nominate myself, Sletho, because i want to be involved in more of the region's affairs and discussions

thank you

Cossack Peoples
Doppio Giudici
Sneyland
Guiness Freaks

Thank you both

We respectfully nominate the following nations:

Your Imaginary Friend
Temmi
Treadwellia
Cossack Peoples
As well as Frankish Peoples

We feel that these nations, as well as ourselves, have a lot to offer the region. Thank you.

Thank you for the nomination Frankish Peoples! I'm trying to be a good Managing Director though, and wouldn't want to pull myself away from the related duties of that job for another, so I respectfully decline. :)

Two additional nominations: Tolfaer and Aaecilia because they're totally the next big thing. ^-^

Why not both?

Beer leader appreciates the nominations and would like nominate some people but is too drunk to remember all the names so he would like to just say yes to the others nominated because they seem like active dude anddudettes. d

I nominate I, Me, Myself and The Marsupial.

And don't tell me this is illegal or I'll nominate the NPO. FOR THE DELEGATE POSITION.

I nominate myself

My LazCORP Developer Campaign Post

A Lazcorp Developer is expected to engage with the community and create a fun atmosphere for Lazarenes and ďdevelop the welcoming, engaging and protective aspects of Lazarus.Ē I think I can fulfil that role well and hereís why:

I have produced several adventure-book dispatches in which players can interact with my work and make their own story. This shows my willingness to engage with other players in new ways that I hadnít seen done before. I will bring this attitude to my work as a Lacorp Developer, finding new things to do and engage the community with.

I have hosted two Belemedonís Gamble tournaments, one in Lazarus. I loved that and have shown that I am more than willing to present the community with a variety of activities.

I have also been very active as you can see just by looking at the RMB. This will allow me to respond quickly to spam to be made and will send a strong message that no spam or illegal post of any kind shall be tolerated. While I canít promise constant activity, no one can because life always gets in the way. Nevertheless, I think it is plain to see that I am very active in the region.

These are my qualifications for being a Lazcorp Developer and I hope you vote for me. As the above post says, fire away with any questions.

Please take a look at an outline for my campaign here:

If you don't know me already, I am Temmi (I also go by just Tem!). I have been in Lazarus for a little while and have learned a lot about our region and the game in that time, mostly thanks to Your Imaginary Friend! I am running, for the first time ever, for the Lazarus Developer position! I hope to be able to help our region become even better in a variety of ways, so I made this dispatch to touch on a few of them!

I have experience working with the Internal Management department and have recently started writing for The Lazarene Gazette! I want to try to make our home the best in the game and make things more fun for everyone! I also want to use this position to get to know more of you and help people get more involved in Lazarus and allow other people to bring up new ideas!

( ī・ω・)人(・ω・` )

.

.

I think that using the polling option in Lazarus can be useful in a lot of ways! I will try my best to ensure that we almost always have a poll running on our region page. I also want to use them to get real opinions from all of Lazarus about ideas, current programs, or just see what everyone is thinking in general! I think polling would be a good way for the government to see if people like the programs they are doing and also test the waters to see if people would be favorable towards an idea before implementing it. I want to work with the Cabinet in order to utilize polling the best way possible for each Director. And when we're not being dead serious, we can have silly and cute polls or polls about real life to get to know each other better!

As a Lazarus Developer, we are able to work with the government for changes to the appearance of the region. So that means the text on the top of the page and the flag! I think it would be fun to occasionally change up the look of the region based on season, holiday, special events in the region (like festivals!), or maybe just for fun! I was even thinking we could have a contest where people submit theme ideas and then we can vote on them (see Polls ^-^) and whoever wins gets their theme put up for a week! I think this is a good way to keep the region looking interesting and also have an interactive way for everyone to contribute more to ideas and get creative!

Developers are able to send out telegrams to everyone in the region. I think this can be really useful for keeping everyone up to date with new things in Lazarus and also promoting upcoming events or trying to see if anyone wants to help out with certain things. I also want to use this along with polls to get to know everyone better and also receive input from them directly so that the government can try to do things people want or address concerns nations have here! I think Imaginary does really good already at letting us know about things (for example the LazDev elections!) and I would really like to help them do that more, without being too annoying to everyone! I will also try to be as available as possible to help get rid of any bad posts that are on the RMB!

I am really glad that I have gotten to know some of you so far and hope that I get the chance to meet more people here in Lazarus! I wouldn't be running for this if I wasn't inspired by some really great people here who have helped me a lot. I want to return the favor by serving the region to the best of my ability and help make it really great! If anyone has any questions for me about what I want to help with or wants to just chat, feel free to message me on here or on Discord! Also, thank you to Free Shellian & Frankish Peoples for nominating me!

My Attempt At A Speech

Hello, I'm DG, but a lot of people call me Prole,

I would like to first put forward that I'm 'NS Old', I go all the way back to when GGR was a thing and people weren't sure if The Black Riders should be taken seriously or not. In my almost nine years on NS, if I was active and not super busy, I was working almost daily on my writing, RP, understanding R&D, and the happenings of the site.

RP

In my years, I have asked a lot of dumb questions, answered a lot of questions, started and help moderate a lot of RPs, and have learned a lot of the rules, terms, and intricacies of RP. I actually run a discord server where people ask questions about factbooks and help each other. (I'm in college and my major is History, I have a lot of books on economics, politics, and warfare)

R&D/NS Politics

I have served in a number of militarizes on here, I've been in a number of ops, and I've had enough time to learn about a lot of unusual characters on here. Why am I bringing this up? It's a qualification, and if you want to learn the ropes or got questions, I got answers. Does this have anything to do with being a developer, I have no idea.

I've understood and debated at least two of the Constitutions of Lazarus, so I need to learn the current one, if we got one. (I have been gone from this site for like a year or more, till I came back like a month ago) I know I was certainly around for a good part of the 'Resistance', even when it was like five people, and we didn't do much.

Polls

I know some people are talking about RMB polls, I'm talking data collection and understanding the needs of our community. When I worked for TWP (I know, it sucked, they were super pro-Funk and didn't have elections), I had a lot of polls to understand what the community wanted to do for RP, community events, or even tabletop RPG games (Those were 'region-building exercises').

Experience as Cultural Ministers or Interior Ministers

I have been a Deputy Minister of Lazarus at least once, possibly more then once (It's been years). I was Interior Minister of TWP, after serving as a Vice or Deputy Minister.

Before I got there, natives of The West Pacific called their region 'Where RP goes to die'.

I almost got the position of Cultural Minister in Das Imperium, but one was never appointed and the community was good at RP, but constantly accusing each other of cheating in the later months. Till things broke down, my suggestions for a ruleset was one with the most votes.

I used to be heavily involved in the RP in The East Pacific (It used to be more professional), but the current regime has a Pro-Funk person, and when I came back to the site, I found out I was banned (But they refuse to tell me why. Full disclosure, every pro-Funk region has banned me)

Any Questions?

I would like to publicly thank Aeisonia for nominating me, but I'll have to decline my nomination. As a Director of Internal Management I feel like I am already in an ideal position to serve you, the community of Lazarus.

I think our Managing Director's initiative to launch LazCorp as a way to integrate the RMB side of the community more actively is great, and I think it is important to appoint "fresh blood" as Developers: People who are not already heavily involved in the government and who can bring in a new perspective and new ideas to the development of our community.

There are many great candidates among those nominated. I feel like both Temmi and Mzeusia already opened with promising campaign statements and I am looking forward to hear more from other candidates!

Here is a more comprehensive campaign dispatch. As I say at the end, if you have any questions, just tell me.

Why you should vote for me as Lazarene Developer:

There isn't any need to dress this up with big speeches and evocative words. When you see legitimate qualifications, you know it, so here are mine:

  • I have worked on the rural RP contest and promoted it, showing there that I can work with others to engage the community.

  • I have written over 200 dispatches and had to think about many facets of nation-building which is useful for giving advice to other nations and for polls. I have also created dispatches about topics not discussed much like a national drink and created interactive dispatches in my adventure books.

  • I have also done comics, radio broadcasts and newspaper reports in dispatched so I have had to work with many different styles of writing. Done commissions for people often going off only a small prompt. This shows I can develop ideas and see where they can go.

  • I've established a dispatch writing guide that has the second highest upvote count of all my dispatches. I have also wrote an RP guide with examples and a guide to getting inspiration when writing. All of these dispatches are within my top twenty upvoted dispatches, with the dispatch writing guide being the second most upvoted dispatch. This shows that I am not only willing to help people who might be struggling with some aspect of NS, but I have got positive feedback on those guides.

  • I have engaged people with RP like asking people for bridge questions and asking about what people wanted the future of the hippies to be. I did this because I value people's opinion and know that things are always better when other people can contribute and get involved.

  • Me asking people whether they were willing to engage with an around the world hippie RP, shows that I have taken into consideration how busy and interested people have been and preceded from there, rather than launching straight into it and getting disappointed. Thatís not to say that even if something isnít very well attended, it wasnít valuable. Frankly I would have preferred a couple more entries for the rural RP contest, but the entries that were there were great fun to read and I think everyone involved enjoyed it.

  • I was one of the few nations who came to Lazarus by choice. When looking for another region, I could have gone for any of them, but I picked this one. Part of the reason I did that was for the peaceful, friendly atmosphere. That isnít something Iíll jeopardise by seeking constant engagement. The RMB doesn't need a new contest or quiz every day. Some days just letting things be quiet and calm is the perfect thing. I will also not let the wonderful atmosphere be ruined by spammers and other people who are not wanted. There is no place in the region for rubbish.

  • Lastly, and this almost goes without saying but I'm saying it anyway. Anyone, at any time, can tell me about their thoughts on something going on or something they would like to see happen because that is the best way to make the region fun and entertaining.

I hope you understand more now about why I think I am qualified and I can't wait to reveal my ideas about enhancing the region. Feel free to send me a question any time.

Penelope of LazCorp wrote:Question #1: Do you plan to function as a Developer closely with the cabinet and the other Developer? If so, in what way would you communicate and/or work with them?

Mzeusia wrote:I do plan to work closely with the cabinet and other developer because it is important that the vision of where Lazarus is headed should be understood by all those people so that things can work smoothly. The Developer, as we know, is a position for people who are on the gameside of things more often than not, so telegrams could be a primary source of communication, although I would be open to any other methods. As for in what way I would work with them, I would put forward ideas, take on their own ideas and keep up a regular conversation about the ideas so they can be swiftly implemented. I would also, upon the completion of a contest for example, ask them for their observations with the aim of improving subsequent events of the same nature.

For some things like polls and suppression of spam, they would of course not need to be too much consultation unless the top dogs want a specific poll to happen.
I will also be adding my answers to my campaign dispatch so that they can be easily seen all together.

Penelope of LazCorp wrote:Question #2: There are times when Roleplay in Lazarus has faced some difficulties, be they the result of godmodding, inconsiderate interactions or simply bad blood. Were one of these situations to occur, would you do anything as a Developer to try and ease or remove tensions?

Mzeusia wrote:Certain individuals may need to be removed, but in regards to all the clashes I have seen, that has never seemed even remotely necessary. I think a lot of the problems can be down to inexperience or a lack of communication, and I would solve something like that with a few TGs to the people involved. I've taught a nation to RP at a better standard in my old region, and I'd be happy to do it again. RP guides like the one I've made will also be helpful.

With all the conflict that can spill into an OOC dislike for one another, all that can be done is for a developer to try to get them to reconcile and recommend not engaging with the other person for a while.

At the end of the day, I will use these methods to resolve conflict, but I will also approach each instance of conflict as its own issue because no one solution exists.

Lazarus seemed like the perfect place for what I wanted, and it still does.

Penelope of LazCorp wrote:Question #4 Which parts of the campaigns of your fellow candidates do you consider to be the most intriguing?

Mzeusia wrote:I find Sletho's campaign interesting in that he is quite new and yet really eager, which just goes to show how inclusive and friendly Lazarus is.

I want to know how much I will learn about Guinness if Guinness Freaks is elected.

I'm interested to learn more about Free Shellian's study abroad program and how that might work.

I'm not intrigued about Aeisonia's campaign because it was a joke and he even acknowledges this and urges people not to vote for him. Maybe seeing the chaos that would ensue could be interesting to start off with. That said, jokey campaigns have their place because they can be quite funny, so I don't want to restrcit someone's ability to run a jokey campaign.

I'm intrigued as to how Doppio's experience in positions outside of the region will make him different from some of the other candidates. I think it will, I'm just not 100% how yet.

I am intrigued by Frankish People's first post saying he has a lot to offer and being so enthusiastic. I can't wait to see what he comes up with, and as with Sletho, the fact that relatively new nations are running is a testament to the positive atmosphere of Lazarus.

Temmi's campaign has intrigued me because I'm excited to see how RP would develop under her leadership.

Penelope of LazCorp wrote:Gah, I can't believe I'm already out of questions to ask! Might have to cut the debate short after this one.

One thing I have brought up to some people is that we should use the actual map we have for Lazarus for roleplay. I definitely don't have as much experience as Mzeusia in roleplay, but I would love to work with them in order to start this kind of roleplay in the region, alongside my other goals (see me dispatch posted above^^). I think we could work great together to do this!! ^-^

Questions for the candidates are welcome. A debate for the candidates will be held here Feb. 28-29.

My campaign post

I suck at many things. Nationstates is one of them.

I am inactive and I do not interact with much of the community.

I have been banned from the WA for a whole year once for not even breaking any rules, I was just that terrible of a nation.

I am not at all qualified to be a LazCorp Dev!

The entirety of my contribution to this glorious region is meme-ing warzones as Thanos Bean.

I am literally the worst nation in existance.

I WOULD RUN THIS PLACE INTO THE GROUND!

DON'T VOTE AEISONIA FOR LAZCORP DEV 2020!

(This campaign was inspired by Brewster's Millions, watch it when you can)

Please read this dispatch on why Free Shellian is the best candidate for LazCorp Developer!

Free Shellian is a strong nation that can help create a better Lazarus. If elected as a Developer, these are the things we will do for the region:

1) Form international organizations and networks to help member nations interact with each other

2) Organize a study abroad program to help students from national cultures learn about others

3) Work to remove trade barriers while respecting individual nations and their rights

4) Create a committee to rank the risk of nations, as determined by their type of leadership, stability and style

5) Provide support systems to nations in case of emergency

We hope you agree with what we're working for. If you'd like to see these things happen, please elect Free Shellian for LazCorp Developer!
