To whom it may concern,
It has come to the attention of both of Parlament and executive office that there are many in your government who seek to form a geopolitical association to promote our common interests. With the rise of ideologically leftist nations to the South and East, it is our duty as independent and free nations to band together in the face of this evil. With that said, I would like to formally reach out a hand as a representative of the Rhine Confederacy, and plant the seeds of our new union.
As far as specifics go, we can offer to construct a large administrative complex in Frankfurt. If you would like to do the same in one of your cities, by all means do so.
We would like to specify that Badeuria has no interest in altering its political structure to bend at the will of others, however we understand you will enough to make the most educated and presumptuous assumption that you share a similar viewpoint on the matter. This will be a union of moral brother-states, united under one tongue and one belief- Marxist ideas, in all form, are evil.
To continue discourse on the matter, please respond urgently.

Regards,

Steffen Herzberg, foreign minister of Badeuria

PDF sends aid to Ussuri SSR after crippling winters

Almost a month ago, the Ussuri SSR was plagued by freezing rainstorms, which cut electricity access for tens of thousands of people in the SSR, and killed 1. Russky Bridge, the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, remains closed due to iced-over cables. Power, water, and heating remain in short supply as the city administration’s handling of the fallout has already been subjected to a check by the Soviet of the Union. The Soviet of the Union concluded that the city was improperly prepared for this emergency situation, city officials responded inconsistently, and there has been delays in the recovery process.

After several weeks, in the city’s mainland areas, most of the problems with utilities have been eliminated. However, Internet and connectivity interruptions persist, and the city’s main thoroughfare remains closed regularly. Traffic closures and uncleared roads jammed the city with traffic from morning until evening, as many complain that the measures the local authorities are taking aren’t helping.

In response, the PDF has officially deployed the 1st Military Police Division to the city for a period of 1 month, aimed at assisting the city in recovery. Combat engineers will move to de-ice the bridge, whose cables have been iced over, and analyze how critical the loads on the bridge supports are and put forward a solution for preventing ice from forming on the cables. Other troops have been tasked with restoring electric access to the villages of Kanal, Pospelovo, Voyedova, and Rynda - all of which were stranded on Russky Island due to the bridge closure. The Division has also said it would provide engineering assistance to reconstruct the island's new electric grid, which many have said to be "dangerously useless".

Dear Prime Minister,

Since the demise of the Most Reverend Dr Jan Kamp, Archbishop of Sticht and Primate of All Orange-Bourgogne, the House of Bishops has met and selected two candidates for the office of Archbishop of Sticht. The nominated candidates are The Rt. Rev. Archibald Marlborough, Bishop of Leeds, and The Rt. Rev. Louis Blancafort, Bishop of Dijon. The former was selected as the most desirable candidate by the diocese, and the Service advises you to confirm this nomination.

Aside from the See of Sticht, there also has to be chosen a new Primate of All Orange-Bourgogne. There are three candidates, namely the Archbishops of the Established Church.

First is the Archbishop of York, Thomas Murdac. By length of service, York is the senior Archbishop at this moment in time. York is also the preferred candidate by the House of Bishops, however, he is politically active in numerous campaigns and holds several views that could damage the reputation of the government. For instance, he is very outspoken on the subject of economic policy. Besides that, he has also, since becoming a bishop, privately met with some dubious characters, such as a number of ministers from the Pankhurst-regime. He apparently believes that the Civilian War was 'justified' on the side of the Pankhurst ministry, because they 'were the legitimate government at the time'. We do not need to inform you how distressing this view could be for more than a small group of believers. For these reasons, the Service advises you not to confirm York's nomination.

Secondly, there is the Archbishop of Canterbury, Norman Becket. Though he is an activist in the sense of the preservation of the environment, he is not as active in politics as York. Canterbury is also more relaxed and a more liberal person than his opponent(s). Additionally, though he is the junior Archbishop, he is the elder one and has served longer as a bishop than York before occupying his present See. Lastly, a poll showed that Becket is more popular amongst ordinary church members than Murdac, who is favoured by the clergy instead. For these reasons, we advise you to elect The Most Reverend Norman Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, as Primate of All Orange-Bourgogne.

Finally, the newly to-be-appointed Archbishop of Sticht would also be a competitor for the position. However, as he will be the least experienced of the Archbishops and also the most junior one, we advise you not to pick this candidate.

The Congregation of Bishops has taken notice of the Prime Minister's decision to nominate The Most Reverend Norman Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, as the Primate of All Orange-Bourgogne. Even though the decision was frowned upon, since it is the convention that the Prime Minister picks the person put first on the list provided to him by the House of Bishops and that would have been The Most Rev. The SOM missile program has thus far proved to be a effective in different combat roles. It’s most recent use in The Roman Republic proved to be another great use.

It’s current range is within great standard, but we will plan on testing its range even further. Estimates of its range are putting it at 2,500km, and we will be testing these capabilities over the next 6 months to a year to ensure this.

With a range of 2,500km, Hellenic Dominance in Europe can be achieved as larger threats emerge. Combined with the HF-X Tural program, air dominance will be ours, along with the Tural’s ability to attack ground targets.

Testing will occur across the Mediterranean at distances from 800km to 1,000km.

At Bioko island we will test the SOM at distances of 1,500km to 2,500km.

(Testing will last 40 RL days)

Imperial Eagle wrote:Vaccine treatment for Type 1 Diabetes shows promise

After a several years of study and trials, the Type 1 Diabetes Vaccine has reached a new milestone thanks to Doctor Doug Melton. Dr. Melton has helped to create a new innovative way to treat and even vaccinate against Type 1 Diabetes using stem-cell research. He started the work over 10 years ago, when stem-cell research was raising hopes and controversy. In 2014 he co-founded Semma Therapeutics—the name is derived from Sam and Emma—to develop the technology, and this summer it was acquired by Vertex Pharmaceuticals for $950 million. The company has created a small, implantable device that holds millions of replacement beta cells, letting glucose and insulin through but keeping immune cells out. “If it works in people as well as it does in animals, it’s possible that people will not be diabetic,” Melton says. “They will eat and drink and play like those of us who are not.”

Human trials of new Alzheimer’s treatment begin

The New York Medical University has reported today that it is now starting human trials of a new Alzheimer’s treatment working in co-junction with Biogen based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Biogen hopes that the trials will be successful and allow the company to move forward with plans to to submit a Biologics License Application to the FDA for its anti-amyloid antibody, aducanumab. If approved, it will be the first new drug available to patients with Alzheimer’s disease in 16 years.

Administered intravenously once a month, aducanumab clears some of the plaque materials that may cause cell death and tissue loss in the brain caused by Alzheimer's disease, according to Barry Reisberg, MD, one of the clinical investigators who developed the Alzheimer’s drug memantine, which was approved back in 2003. Although it is not curative, aducanumab could be a valuable addition to the clinician’s armamentarium, according to Sharon A. Brangman, MD, chair of the geriatrics department and director of the Center for Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease at Upstate Medical University in New York.

“Aducanumab is exciting in terms of adding more information to our knowledge of Alzheimer’s disease and maybe offering potential treatment, but it is not a cure,” she said.

Type 1 Diabetes vaccine enters new phase

Doctor Doug Melton, the man leading the charge against curing or at least preventing Type 1 Diabetes has reported that the testing done so far has shown great promise. His report states researchers tested the safety and feasibility data of a first-in-man-prospective open-labeled, placebo-controlled, dose-escalation phase 1 trial in nine people with long-standing type 1 diabetes (for at least 12 years)

The researchers aimed at investigating the use of tolerogenic dendritic cells (TolDCs) and proinsulin peptide (the precursor to insulin) to intervene in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. Tolerogenic dendritic cells are a type of immune responding cell that may be able to manage the beginning of underlying autoimmunity at the time-at-onset and onwards.

Participants were administered two intradermal vaccinations series (5, 10, or 20, depending on dose cohort) of TolDCs pulsed with proinsulin peptide, one month apart. During the six months of intensive monitoring, the researchers found that all participants diabetes control remained stable and that the intervention appeared to be safe and well-tolerated, with few adverse reactions.

Although they did not “cure” the participants of diabetes, there was no acceleration of beta cell loss during the intervention. They concluded that their study warrants “Subsequent clinical testing in patients with a shorter diagnosis of type 1 diabetes (less than 12 years) and with preserved C-peptide production, to assess whether this novel immune intervention strategy is able to delay or halt progressive loss of beta cell function.” Another study to recently hit the news approaches a vaccine for type 1 diabetes in an alternative way. As mentioned, it has been discovered that certain viruses are linked to the development of type 1 diabetes, one speculated culprit, Coxsackievirus B (CVB) enteroviruses. There are six different strains of this virus, all of which are linked to different diseases.

Researchers formulated a vaccine for all six strains of CVB and found that it had positive results on both mice and monkeys. When given to monkeys, the vaccine stimulated antibodies to CVB, which implied that if it could prevent the development of CVB then it could prevent diabetes.6

While this research is certainly promising, there are a few drawbacks to the study. First off, the study was done in animals which has its own limitations.

In addition, it is difficult to determine if children who are predisposed to type 1 diabetes will develop the disease after exposure to a different type of virus or infection. More research will be needed to determine if these vaccines are safe and applicable in children.

The good news is that if they are, there is a chance they can prevent the cases of diabetes in children that are potentially caused by CVB.

In the capital in the town square they are setting up the fireworks display for New Year's Eve crowd to ring in the new year.

Supreme Soviet

The Supreme Soviet has passed a law to protect 4 of the country's main rivers, including the Yangtze, Yellow, Hai, and Han Rivers.

The law, named the Union River Protection Law, is the first law to protect a particular waterway in the country. These rivers provide valuable fresh water resources and agricultural waters for many, but has suffered a series of environmental problems in recent years, such as heavy pollution. Wastewater discharge, along with high levels of chemicals such as ammonia nitrate, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, plague the area. The new law is designed to strengthen environmental protections, use resources efficiently and ensure sustainable development.
Nine chapters in the law cover areas such as design and management, resource protection, anti-pollution measures, green development and legal responsibilities.

The River Protection Law will impose fishing regulations to conserve its dwindling fish stocks, affecting around 200,000 fishermen along the 4 rivers who have petitioned for more assistance to help them find new jobs and places to live. The Ministry of Agriculture also called for stronger efforts to prevent illegal fishing and urged the public to support the ban, dedicating $125 million USD to recompense the 200,000 fishermen. The fishing regulations dictate that fishermen are only permitted to use fishing rods to fish instead of using nets or explosives in a bid to preserve fishing stocks. They are also required to report their catch to designated authorities, with new bans on waste dumping in rivers that attract $50,000 USP fines. Fishermen will also be compelled to return fish that are too young or overfished into the wild.

Furthermore, sand excavation and chemical production is forbidden along the lengths of the river. The Federal Government has also introduced a cap on synthetic nitrogen-fertiliser of 190kg N/ha/year for all pastoral farms to avoid nitrogen poisoning of water.

RIOTS BETWEEN ALFREIHEIT AND PRAKTIKZUSTAND- 20 DEAD, MORE IN CRITICAL CONDITION!

A series of massive riots in the cities of Frankfurt and Munich have just rocked the nation! Alfreiheit majority leader Alois Olbrich has just confirmed that the Alfreiheit office in Frankfurt, Hessen, has been attacked by a mob of rioters, claiming to be supporters of the presidential contender Frederick Jäger. At 2:55 pm today, three Molotov cocktails were thrown from an SUV speeding down the adjacent street. Three more vehicles appeared afterwards, each with between 5 and 7 men inside. They proceeded to rush the door, throwing objects and throwing punches at nearby employees. One man, who's name has not yet been revealed, was knocked down the front stairs after being struck in the neck with a brick thrown by a Praktikzustander. The mob then began to surround him, with one of them procuring a switchblade and stabbing the man repeatedly over the course of the next 15 seconds.
The attack lasted for only 2 minutes, before Police were able to arrive and order the attackers to stop. Three were shot dead by officers when they attempted to retaliate, and one was shot by an off-duty security guard, although the injury was not fatal. 5 other employees suffered serious burns from the molotovs.
______________________________________________________________________________________

Less than 30 minutes later, another attack was reported. This time at the Praktikzustand complex in Munich. The situation here was much more violent, as a crown of over 50 marched down the main street that leads to the complex, demanding the dissolvement of the party. Banners displayed the text "
Runter mit dem König" (down with the king) as well as images comparing Jäger to historical dictators and kaisers of German history. When the crowd reached the front gate, they quickly overpowered duo of security guards who fired into the crowd, killing 2 and injuring 1. The mob breached the door, and ran through the hallways, shooting, stabbing, or otherwise assaulting anyone caught in the horde.
Munich's riot police division managed to drive out the savages, but not without more violence between the groups. In total, 10 PK employees, 5 rioters, and 1 officer was killed.

President Schuhardt has demanded that Jäger be held accountable for inciting this violence, and Jäger himself issued a similar statement after.

"Why do we allow ourselves to succumb to bullies, tyrants, and violent thugs as we see here? There is no doubt that Schuhardt and Olbrich brought this upon you, upon us! Upon the common men who built and continue to improve this nation. No longer shall we live in fear! We must rise! For Justice and brotherhood! Der Rhein tobt weiter!"

The republic of dhan

The republic of dhan wrote:Call for Ambassadors

Minister Waleed Ahmed requests the presence of a set of Ambassadors in Dhahan to give their input on The Republic's diplomatic paths in regards to The Confederacy of Rosena. He sends an individual to summon each of the following Ambassadors to the Minister's office in the Al Zaqura Palace building.
The individuals summoned are:
Ambassador Theoni Markouli of The hellenes league
Ambassador Candela Kimpa of Furstia
Ambassador Thomas Howell of The United States (Imperial Eagle)
Ambassador Cloé Savina of Infiny
Envoy Geoffrey Willock of Orange-bourgogne

As each summoned individual walks through the chaotic bustling of the Dhahan Administrative Building that is Al-Zaqura Palace , they are shown to the office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. They would enter the room to find comfortable armchairs and refreshments already prepared for them by the Minister's secretary. Minsiter Waleed Ahmed, a large man with a black trimmed beard and long curly hair, sits at his desk looking over papers and smoking a cigarillo. He turns to blow the smoke out of the open window behind him as the prestigious men and women enter.

He closes his various folders and addresses the various summoned people with a smile, "Welcome friends! It is good to see every one of you and I am happy that you were willing to come meet with me today..." He says with a jovial tone, "...As I hope my message has prepared you for what I am about to ask. I have spoken to the Prime Minister on the people of Rosena and we have come to the relative consensus that though their actions should be condemned, we believe that if the world was to sanction them and isolate them then it would create possible conflicts in the future. That being said, the administration has confided in me to make the decision on whether our nation will establish diplomatic relations with Rosena. As a people who have been negatively affected by foreign interests, we would know the kinds of hate that these sanctions will build towards. Yet, we wish for these actions to truly end that the government of Rosena has committed through its support of radical organizations within its own borders. Our Minister of Education believes that we can change the minds of the youth through our scholastic exchange and through exposures to our culture. Though it will be a long process. In essence we wish to be a neutral state that will keep the world and Rosena away from war. The reason I have called you each here today, is because as acting representatives of your nations ,we wish to know what you believe is the best course of action considering this Republic's goals and what you believe will be the reactions and consequences that would come from this action of reaching out to Rosena from your various governments."

Minister Waleed Ahmed leans back in his chair as he listens to the ambassadors, "You three have given me much to consider. I am sure that you will find out of my decision or lack of one through the coming news cycles. Though I do think that this isolation that the world is putting the confederacy of Rosena in as well as The Republic of Svaleau will lead to conflicts that will end in death and suffering, I must also look out for my own people. Understand that I find the actions of their nations to be morally corrupt, but the way that the socialist nations such as yours Ms. Candela Kimpa and yours Ms. Theoni Markouli frighten me. I am honest with you since I wish to preserve our relationships, but my people have known interventionism from other nations. They abhor it. It frightens me to think of how the International Cooperation Council may use their collective might to pressure nations like mine or Infiny. I agree with your governments, that these acts against minorities in their nations must stop, but instead of debate and diplomacy we turn to collective coercion. If Furstia leaves Dhahan then I can only imagine that The hellenes league will follow. In addition we may never hear from the Soviet Union (Cccp-) and Danubia (Donau-bundesreich) on their embassy invitations. It pains me to think that we must stray from our goal of a united future so soon into its deployment, and that is why I am hesitant. Simply the repercussions from speaking to the Rosenian's may cause this chain of events if I understand the Furstian position well enough. It was our ultimate belief that as a neutral party we may do a better job at creating a better understanding between those nations and the rest of the world that may lead to concessions and change, yet we will not get that chance unless we risk angering our closest neighbors. With our position laid out, I will hope that you all have the patience to let me deliberate. I do appreciate having your voices here in my office and I may call on you again since you are my ambassadors for similar advice. Unless you have anything more to say, you may leave. And please take some refreshments on the way out, I can only hold so much in this office."

The republic of dhan wrote:Minister Waleed Ahmed leans back in his chair as he listens to the ambassadors,

Ambassador Kimpa: "While your Government has noble intentions by attempting to act as a neutral party, Dhahan should be aware that if given concessions, the Rosenian and Svaleauan regimes will not cease in their horrible ideals and actions. Quite the contrary, in fact. That is what my Government has observed throughout the years and that is the reason of its intransigence in this issue.

A united future among nations must also include ideals compatible with the future, Minister Ahmed. Intolerance and segregation based on the color of a person's skin are certainly out of that picture in a civilized world. Thank you for your time."

She respectfully nodded again to the Minister and the foreign diplomats before walking out.

Geovision and the Winter Games

The Winter Games and Geovision are getting really close! The Winter Games will begin on January 1, 2021 and Geovision will begin on January 2, 2021. For Geovision, 11 nations have sent in songs to be voted on. If you haven't, but wish to send one, you still can! Remember to send them to Vashnal by January 1, 2021.

For the Winter Games, only a handful of nations have send in the three events that they excel at. The last day to do this is December 30, 2020. It was previously mentioned that you have to send in the list to partake in the Winter Games, but due to the small amount of lists sent in, this may change come the last day of the year. It all depends on you!

May the best nation win either event!

The Greener Japan Plan - Presidential Address

President Akiya: Hello, everyone, and welcome. I'm glad to see all of you here. Recently, my administration has been looking towards the future of Japan and how we can attempt to lead the world in green technology. Partnering with the Japanese Green Party, we, my administration, have come up with a plan that would bring us closer to that goal. We have many ways to reach that goal, and some are more viable than others at the moment.

The first thing we wish to announce is that Japan as a whole is going to phase out gasoline-powered automobiles within the next decade (520 RL days). Recently, the head of Toyota Motors Corp. mentioned that "...the rapid shift towards electric vehicles could cripple the car industry." This is not true and is the reason why we are pushing for no new gasoline-powered vehicles to be manufactured by the end of the fifteenth year from today (780 RL days). Under this deal, gasoline-electric hybrid cars can still be manufactured, but an attempt to go to complete electric shall end in a total of 30 years (1560 RL days). By that time, we hope to be carbon-neutral.

Another part of the plan will be to create all of Japan's energy through renewable resources. We hope to phase out all non-renewable energy sources within the next 30 years. We are looking towards off-shore wind generation which we hope will produce up to 45 gigawatts within the coming decades. We are also looking towards nuclear and thermal power plants with carbon capture technology to produce around 40 percent of our electricity needs. Ammonia and hydrogen technologies are expected to produce around 10 percent of our electricity needs.

While this may seem ambitious to some, and not far enough for others, we are doing this to lead ourselves and the world in the right direction, but we cannot push too much in the event that what we want to do can't be met by the 15-year deadline some are wishing for. This plan can be changed as we progress in our efforts. I do not wish to push the date back, so that will be out of the question unless it is absolutely necessary. We hope that this will lead Japan into a greener future and will inspire the rest of the world. If anything changes within this plan, we will attempt to keep everyone in the know. Thank you all.

There will be a number of representatives from other regions on there, so feel free to drop in, say hello, and join in on the venting. They will also put some of their favorite posts on The Augury for next month!

If you all have any questions, feel free to ask any of us or our representatives from Karma as well. Thanks again everybody. :)

"This year has proven to be one of great harmony and hardship.
In my official roll as monarch of Tumolia I have had the pleasure to meet a lot of you. This has brought me great pleasure and reasurrance.
Reasurrence because I believe that this country can in 2021 became even better and more harmonic then ever before.
But I in my personal capacity as a fellow citizen of Tumolia I have had much more hardship then I care to admit.
With my recent absence as King and my recovery I have had to endure a lot of difficulty.
In these times a have myself to be extremely lucky to have such a caring and empathatic family.
Family in these days of harmony are the most important people a person can have.
My sympathy goes out to all people who do not have a family in these days.
I wish all the people in Tumolia a happy Holidays and merry new year."
