Beagles about

Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle Wiffle!

Hm, wonder how we got to be fourth for the most people nude? Oh well!

Hey all!
I met some of you ten years ago when this region and Dun Eideann had embassies :)
I'm really happy that you guys are still active, everybody else I used to know is long gone
Imma just chill in the corner for now though!

My apologies for my extended absence and continuing inactivity. I have come down with a bad case of RL, including a 3-week honeymoon abroad and bringing back nearly 9,000 pictures, which still need to be processed.

Congrats on the honeymoon (and the marriage)! And I know exactly what you mean about the pictures - I finally dealt with the ones I took on vacation six months ago.

Greetings friends, I come bearing news from the Forest.

Regional Update
September 2017

Introduction
Following a surge after the region was commended by the Security Council in April, Forestís population is now stable at 230 to 250 nations. At time of writing, 70 nations were WA members, of which 59 were endorsing the delegate, making Ransium one of the more influential delegates of a user created region. We also have a notable concentration of Issues Editors and authors, with 5 editors and a number of multiply published authors having a presence either as natives or through puppets.

Forest this summer has had a real positive buzz about it. It remains a very active region with 30 to 40 poll responses being typical (meaning we're making decisions with a level participation comparable to the legislatures of the far larger GCRs) and a vibrant and varied RMB. I for one am very proud to call it home.

N-Day 2
As an eco-friendly, pacifist region you wouldnít expect to us to be enthusiastic about nuclear war, but with considerable irony we entered the fray on N-Day 2 and (to our own surprise as much as anyone elseís) finished in fourth position, the highest scoring and by far the largest faction to receive no radiation. In the final hour we even managed to wreak Gaiaís vengeance on some of NationStateís least eco-friendly nations (you know who you are!). Thanks go to our allies Spiritus and International Democratic Union as well as all those who came to cooperate with us as nuclear death rained from the skies.

World Assembly
Our delegate Ransium has authored no less than three successfully adopted recent World Assembly resolutions: Trade of Endangered Organisms (GA #403), Commend Yggdrasil (SC #221) and Commend Drasnia (SC #224).

Interregional Events and Cultural Happenings
Frieden-und Freudenland took two medals at the Oatland Olympics, Mount Seymour finished strongly in Where the Wild Things Areís Royal Ass Cote and Forest nations have three times won The Bar on the Corner of Every Regionís Weekend Poetry Competition. We were also pleased to accept an invitation to the next Cross Regional Games hosted by Wysteria.

Forest has established a regional library and is now preparing for this yearís photography competition. Roleplay Minister Caracasus is facilitating a closed diplomatic summit on the NS forum and a weekly Post an Account From Your Nation event on the RMB.

Raiders...?
We were slightly perplexed to receive two visits from The Black Hawks, who arrived each time at major update endorsing the Forest nation with the second largest number of endorsements. We can only assume that this was an attempt to break Ransiumís delegate streak as it approached two years, something we would have been completely unconcerned about. We can only wonder why they bother, but are grateful to the defenders who arrived to foil the operation.

Government matters
We have opened embassies with Oatland and Haiku, plus an embassy thread on the forum of The North Pacific. We have also introduced an ambassador programme and appointed representatives to The South Pacific, The Rejected Realms, International Democratic Union, Yggdrasil, Canada, Texas, Gay, Philosophy 115, Democratic Socialist Assembly and Hippy Haven.

The post of Statistics and Research Minister, which had been vacant for some time, has now been filled by Montmorencia. Amongst other tasks, the Minister will be updating the record of Exceptionally Green Nations and Ransiumís Greenness Index.

After some debate and a vote, we chose not to add either of the new Egalitarian and Feminist tags to the region because, although many of us are feminists or sympathetic to feminism, we decided not to detract from our focus as an environmentalist region.

September is election season in Forest as we choose a Forest Keeper to be the regionís leader for the next 12 months. This involves a 3 week shut down of government during which time embassy requests and other matters cannot be dealt with.

I come bearing...um...myself! That should do for at least another 60 days....

And it's that time once again. Behold, my friends, further tidings from the green woodland glades.

Election and government business
September saw the annual election for Forest Keeper, the head of the regional government. Five candidates ran, and a closely fought campaign began between the incumbent Mount Seymour (better known to many as Somyrion) and newcomer Palos Heights. With a few days left to go, however, Mount Seymour announced their withdrawal due to real life commitments and as a result the election was a landslide victory for Palos Heights, who secured a crushing 85% of the vote - a great achievement for a young nation of just over 1 billion population.

Although new applications were invited Palos Heights has chosen to retain the previous government team with the exception of Culture Minister, which Mount Seymour takes on following Frieden-und Freudenland's decision to retire. The government is:

WA Delegate: Ransium
Culture Minsiter: Mount Seymour
Foreign Affairs Minister: Uan aa Boa
Roleplay Minister: Caracasus
Regional Historian and Recruitment Minister: Mozworld

In a new initiative designed to increase openness and accountability, government discussions are now held in The Government Glade, a Discord channel visible to all Forest residents.

Palos Heights says "For the strongest tree is not measured by the rings around its trunk or the size of its canopy, but the strongest tree is known by all by its roots."

"My premiership in Forest has been one underscored by the community rising to the occasion. Forest had an amazing Z-Day experience and it is thanks to the great people of Forest that we had such a turn-out. Forest is strong not because of any one individual leader, and I am excited to begin cultivating more leaders such as the wonderful individuals Mount Seymour, Mozworld, Errinundera, and Drasnia who lead us through Z-Day.

My time as Forest Keeper will be one of natural growth, strengthening our roots, and spreading the Forest way."

Following the focus on the election and on Z-day, the only major item of business has been a review of embassy policy and consideration of whether to close our embassy with a region that has become inactive. This was robustly debated, after which a regional poll decided against closure by a margin of 30 votes to 16.

The Ambassador Programme has expanded with 9 nations now assisting the Foreign Affairs Minister. Oatland and Antarctica have both agreed to open their embassies to posting by all nations in allied regions.

World Assembly Matters - 2 new commendations
The recent votes to commend Forestarians Zwangzug and Candlewhisper Archive continue a period of ascendancy for Forest in the Security Council, with the region's commendation being followed by these two new resolutions and the passage of three resolutions by our delegate Ransium.

Z-Day 6
Forest was delighted to place third in the event for both total number of survivors and total number of survivors with no infection.

Forest's population hit an all time record of over 500 nations and 3 trillion people in the run-up to Z-day. Following a pre-agreed plan all active nations began researching a cure - this was so effectively implemented that there were only one or two isolated incidences of anyone doing anything else. Coordinated cure missile strikes quickly began and, with the borders closed to newcomers for the time being, the region became infection free 14 hours after the beginning of the event.

Forest then began to admit and cure batches of refugees, advertising this offer on the NS forum. Initially this was quite successful and a number of nations either took refuge in Forest for the remainder of the event or returned to battle the zombies refreshed and replenished. As time went on, however, nations that had embraced the zombies and wanted to infect Forest began to outnumber genuine asylum seekers. These were quickly banjected on every occasion, but we hadn't anticipated the new feature allowing zombie hordes to convert other nations to zombie exporters in a single attack. This caused a brief outbreak of Forest nations going rogue, and as one was sadly offline at the time there was no alternative but to temporarily eject them.

After reviewing this, and being aware that we were being targeted by zombie factions in Lazarus, The Rejected Realms and elsewhere, the decision was taken to leave the borders closed until the threat had passed.

At time of writing our regional population remains up at 340-350 nations with several new active contributors who have joined us because of Z-day.

Future Events at the Culture Ministry
Forest's annual photography competition is coming soon and submissions from our embassy regions would be extremely welcome. Other new events are also in the pipeline, so watch out for new updates, especially as the holiday season approaches...

Have the most verdant of days.

Hello friends in Futaba Aoi,

Forest's third annual Photo Contest is beginning and as has been the case in past years, submissions are open to anyone from our embassy regions. We'd love to see some submissions from y'all! :)

You can find more information here:

Forest Photo Contest 2017

.

Yes, it's that time of year (and a little bit more)! Whether you're still eating leftover turkey or just looking forward to being done with 2017 already, the third annual Forest Photo Contest is back to spice up the last month of the year!

Here's what you need to know:

🌲 This year we have more categories than ever before! Our four categories will be:

  • Trees (this category is permanent each year)

  • Weather

  • Sunrise / Sunset

  • Flowers in the Concrete - Nature in Unexpected Places

🌲 You may submit up to 12 photos total. You may choose how to divide those among the different categories, but please do not submit more than 12.

🌲 Please post your photos in the appropriate thread on our forums, located Linkhere.

🌲 The photos must be taken by you.

🌲 Anyone in Forest or in a region which has an embassy with Forest may submit photographs for the Contest.

🌲 Timing:

  • Submissions will be open from November 26th at 23:59 GMT (7pm EST) to December 23rd at 23:59 GMT.

  • Voting will begin on December 24th at 23:59 GMT and end December 31st at 23:59 GMT, so that we will select the winners in the first minutes of 2018!

🌲 Due to the larger numbers this year and the restraints of forum polls, voting will take place on a Google Form. Needless to say, please no puppeteering!

🌲 The photographers with the top three photographs in each category will have their photos acknowledged on our RMB and in our regional newspaper, the Forest News Leaf. A banner will also be created with a collage of the top photos to applaud the winners, and participants in the competition will be encouraged to add it as their nation's custom banner. Forest's flag will also be changed to the 1st place photos in each category for a week after the Contest.

Now it's time to head out and start photographing!

Good luck to everyone!

A note on the forums: Forest's longtime forum host, InvisionFree, is currently closing and transferring all their forums to Tapatalk. Forest's forum was unfortunately transferred early and so we'll be operating on this platform until we can resolve the problem and hopefully move to Zetaboards or a similar, more familiar and customisable software. Apologies to everyone for any features which may be inaccessible while we're temporarily on Tapatalk.
