In all seriousness though, I posted that before the plane started taxying. I did turn airplane mode on during the flight.

Fun fact, since 2017 I have tried to collect a table flag from each country I visit.

Germany is the first country I have been unable to do this in, not a single German flag in any souvenir shop in Dresden, I genuinely saw more German flags in Prague's souvenir shops (but that sadly wouldn't count).

volksbund add a big red star and white stripe

I've also now decided that I cannot consider Czechia to be an Eastern European state and will only refer to it as Central European from now on, Prague felt more like the UK than Dresden did XD

Unrest in Dresden, Leipzig and East Berlin

Following the public announcement of troops being deployed abroad to fulfil obligations under the Warsaw Pact and to Sovietskogo Soyuz, as well as to support the MPLA, anti-war protesters initiated small demonstrations on Sunday. Initially, these protests were unrelated to the unrest in Leipzig. Despite the absence of an official war, the protesters believed that deploying forces to distant nations would only serve to heighten tensions. Since then, the protests have escalated into broader anti-government demonstrations, particularly following the Stasi's arrests of protest organisers on Monday. Chants such as "Reform NOW" and "Disband the Stasi" have become prevalent among the demonstrators, with the protests spreading to Dresden and fuelling further unrest in Leipzig.

It is estimated that there are approximately 200,000 protesters in total, with 90,000 in Dresden, 50,000 in East Berlin, and 60,000 in Leipzig. The protests in East Berlin appear to be largely in opposition to the authoritarian measures of the Dietrich regime, as many have not forgotten the violent suppression of protests in the late 2010s. In contrast, the demonstrations in Leipzig and Dresden are primarily driven by economic issues, with rising unemployment in these regions. Despite these differing motivations, all protests have united in calling for reforms and the lifting of travel restrictions to the West. Thousands have gathered in front of the New Republic Palace in East Berlin, demanding that Dietrich address them directly.

In response, the government has deployed Stasi officers dressed as NVA personnel to contain the protests, closed down roads, and imposed a communications blackout. Security along the Berlin Wall has been heightened to prevent any attempts by the crowds to overrun the area or to stop further defections. An emergency meeting of the Politburo is scheduled for the evening of 27th August to address the unrest, although Dietrich has already instructed a more measured response, fearing that a harsh crackdown would only further escalate tensions. Unfortunately, tensions are continuing to rise, especially against the Stasi attempting to contain the demonstrations.

General Secretary's Statement

"It is the foremost duty of this state to protect our people from the perils of fascism. The wall stands as a safeguard for the continuation of social justice within the German People's Union, ensuring that our society remains free from the corrupting influence of the West. The Ministry of State Security has always had one clear mission: to defend socialism from these external threats.

I am certain that this current wave of unrest has been incited by Western powers, particularly the United States, whose goal is to weaken our resolve and impose their free-market monopolies upon the Democratic Republic. But let me be clear—it will not succeed. Our Germany stands unwavering in its commitment to socialism, and we shall meet any covert or overt attempts to destabilise us with firm resolve.

We will not bow to the demands of landlords or the industrialists of West Germany. We are a sovereign nation, recognised as such, and we have the right to declare: 'Ami, go home!'"

Emmaline Dietrich
General Secretary
Statement given this morning

Final day to submit is Sunday. Sadly, if I do not get more submissions I will be forced to shut down the exhibit.

If I have to shut down the first exhibit I am likely to not get one going ever again.

I don't have much time to participate in the Agausia Exhibition, which is a shame because it really is a very good idea.

It will be a shame for such a brilliant idea end so early, with this exhibition you can develop the lore of your beloved nation and even win prizes for it! so I recommend you join the Agausia exhibition =3 (I'll try to participate, but I also lack creativity lol)

PS: also, this Factbook is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen❤️
