The first draft (the creative spark didn't come until now - do enjoy!) of the regional formal RP is posted in our poll. If you're interested in our region-wide RP, do weigh in and ask questions! The proposed draft of the information thread is below (just the story and basic structure). Our standard regional rules and an agreed set of RP rules will be appended later. What resources we are including is up to discussion in this poll.

東方帝国の夢 ~ Touhou Yumeteikoku - Phantasmagoria of Outsiders and Pioneers
A Draft for Formal RP for the Iwakusphere by Albrook of Einetei Gensokyo

~ - - - - - ~

Gensokyo. This land was sealed long ago by the Great Hakurei Border. At the rise of 19th century scientific advancement – electricity, arm for personal protection, and the aging discoveries of natural law – youkai, once feared, have no more darkness to retreat to beyond the stretches of Imperial civilization.
It has been ages. Should you ask the local empire, they will each give you a different year. However, thanks to the Tengu, the time in Gensokyo is kept in its own way.

The Village Expansion – Mayor Becker expected to Expand Human Reserve into the Forest
For the longest time, the Human Village has remained in a dormant state. It felt as if only months ago the village was ravaged by a state of stagnant nihilism.
Our newspaper was able to speak with Village Mayor Steve Becker, who expressed interest in expanding the village after a population boom. Where exactly the population came from is unknown. Our dedicated reporter noticed many new adult residents, not just children.
Perhaps most importantly, the mayor’s plan involves cutting and civilizing several acres of the nearby Forest of Magic. This violates a safety treaty passed long ago between the forest-dwelling youkai and the village residents. The mayor insists his hands are tied.

The humans and youkai alike both share something like a learned amnesia over this region. According to Gensokyo, 135 seasons (135 years, per the common Imperial calendar) passed since the Great Hakurei Border has formed. At first it was just strayed human magicians, or the desolate who have quite literally lost their way in life, but now entire populations have began creeping into the realm.
Truly, this is an incident worth investigating. What is happening to the Great Hakurei Border?

The Iwakusphere presents a formal RP, hosted by Eientei Gensokyo, for all in the region to participate in. The storyline is explained above – an incident, once again, shadows Gensokyo – our central setting for this formal RP from Touhou Project. You are invited to investigate, complicate, or stand by a regional-scale incident worthy of the usual attentions from the usual shrine maidens, magicians, and proud servants.
• Individual – You can participate in the roleplay by taking direct control over a resident of Gensokyo. You will have your choice of a named character from Touhou Project canon, or to create your own village resident or youkai.
• National – Your nation can participate as well. An external force may be aggravating the Great Hakurei Border.

Character Name – What name does your character often go by? A full name, if a protected identity, needs not to be revealed here.
Character Race – Is your character a human or youkai? If a youkai, what specific race are they (Oni, Bourei, Tengu, etc.).
Appearance – A written or (inclusive) graphic depiction of your character
Motivation – What purpose does your character have in our story? This is, what do they want to achieve, or what state do they wish to be in?

For a nation, the following information is requested.

Nation Name – What is your nation’s name? A full title, if used, may be provided; otherwise, a simple name can suffice.
Relative Technology Level – What is your nation’s tech level? Heed the following references.
• Past Tech – Industrialization is not widespread in your nation. Cottage industries or guilds of artisans may have a solid foothold in your economy. Your military may use primitive melee and ranged weapons, including early firearms.
• Modern Tech – Industrialization is widespread in your nation. Large and small businesses form an economy – how this exactly works varies greatly, depending on the national government. Your military may use conventional firearms, vehicles, and devices.
• Future Tech – Your nation may have outgrown its initial place of existence and perhaps became space-faring, an Imperial force of world domination and unification, or exist in another realm or dimension. Our story is capped at realizing only Modern Technology, as to not drastically interfere with Gensokyo’s Prime Directive. However, your scientists may have created a method for your nation’s operatives, or permitted citizens, to become planeswalkers into Gensokyo.
Estimated Population – For purposes involving other nations, what is your estimated population? NS Stats are not assumed in this story. You may choose your population.

Ok, I'm really new to roleplay in general, I get overall concept, but there is still few questions:
1. So this RP is not directly related to NS - we can just start over as someone completely unrelated, but we can use our NS nation/leader/citizen? Can we inport someone from different universe [specifically, my idea for NS was to see what would happen if Akemi Homura run a country - so can I RP as her in our official RP(still as leader of nation)]?
2. "It's Magic. I Ain't Gotta Explain [feces]" - so how magic will "work" in this RP. Specifically how will different magic systems interfere with each over - in Touhou magic was never really explained, it's game about magical girls shooting themselves with lasers after all, so how will we prevent utter chaos when we add more magic systems to that?
This are my two main questions, there are more, but for now i assume they will be answered as everything starts to take form

*National Anthem*

Breaking news today as the Federation leader after a rousing speach declared the abolishment of capital punishment and instead introduced a new law that incentifies prisoners to help in building up our economy and bringing down the cost of the prison cells they occupy. This has however led to many prisons become suddenly religious as they use their rights to sacrifice prisoners for "religious reasons". After being asked for comment regarding this possible loop hole our leader stated "I knew I should not have let her voluptous thighs talk me into making human sacrifice legal.

So we're starting back to scratch...?

More paperwork I guess...

A transmission is sent out from Kanna Kamui. The voice of the person on the transmission seems to be a woman, and she says,”Hello, new nations. It is a pleasure to see you come about. I would like to humbly request you listen to our transmission. I hope we can get along, with peace and prosperity as our goals. As the Presidentress of Kanna Kamui, I wish to get to know each of you personally. Thank you for listening.

Suddenly, a low, guttural, demonic-sounding voice starts speaking.

“Hello new nations. It is a delight to meet you all. You are quite the intriguing group, I must say. Now then, I would recommend you don’t do anything foolish. I might have to see you personally if you do. You wouldn’t want that, trust me. You’d probably see a couple people die if I came around. You wouldn’t want that. I wouldn’t want to do that either. So when you approach Kanna Kamui, please reach out with open arms.”

The transmission ends.

You can import any character. That is allowed, yes.

While magic is never entirely explained, and is in fact a mainstay of Gensokyoan life, the more dangerous uses of it are regulated. In all engagements, the Spell Card Rules controlled how the girls fought (otherwise, yes - some fan works joke that Reimu can just outright immediately win should these rules have been violated). As seen in the game series, large-scale energies - such as a season never ending, a shrine or temple suddenly appearing, etc. - often receive swift response from the playable characters, often before a major consequence. Often these large-scale effects, moreover, require immense energy from the instigator, weakening them for when the playable characters come. So while why and how something is happening isn't always clear (in our RP, this will be left for the player to explain as a freedom - within our standard godmodding and other RP rules of course) there certainly is an inherent balance in the game that will need to be respected here; agreed.

But truly, I am missing details. The following should be added to the draft.

Gensokyo, locked out from the rest of the world, is largely a Past/Fantasy Tech level region. This is, some modern objects exist, but none that are mass produced. Some artifacts of modern civilization pass through the Great Hakurei Border, which, if interesting, may be reverse engineered and produced by the kappa. Cell phones, at least in the quality they existed in Subterranean Animism, do exist to that extent.

This restriction intends, as the Future Tech requirements indicate, that Gensokyo itself should never really be overwhelmed with too many modern devices. It would be an entire incident in itself if a nuclear cache, for instance, were discovered among those suddenly appearing in Gensokyo - much akin to the Former Hells Incident. A "Prime Directive" protects the tech level of the region, which is arbitrarily accepted by all player nations. How technologies are imported may work case-by-case (i.e. "Hey, I really want my character to find an old laptop in one of the village shops. Er, the internet will kinda just work and the battery's magic or something." would likely be approved, given there could be a sufficient plot motivation behind it. However "can i haz predator drone" would likely not be approved, as autonomous military drones may upset the technology and power balance explained above).

Hikxx wrote:So we're starting back to scratch...?

The RP is not intended to couple with or modify any existing RP in the RMB. The "formal" canon is intended to be separate from whatever existing canons exist here, although elements of it may be imported if they fit the overall motivation.

The core elements of this RP ("central location, lore, and resources", some interest in national RP without Gensokyo, "forum-based") was voted on by the region at large over the last three weeks.

OOC: that's fair I would say. I've been slow with RP myself as well, and have always been, so I've become a patient person in that regard.

I updated the proposed thread. I have received at least one application via telegram. The RP is not active yet and will not be accepting or processing applications at this time. After all, we're voting on how we all like the details now. :p

Just to make sure I'm interpreting the RP dispatch correctly - time is variable and our nations can be at any stage in history/economic development as long as we're not entirely Future Tech?

Greater Angelus wrote:Just to make sure I'm interpreting the RP dispatch correctly - time is variable and our nations can be at any stage in history/economic development as long as we're not entirely Future Tech?

The Future Tech restriction is mainly not to upset the Past/Future Tech balance of Gensokyo. Essentially your nation will be allowed to exist and function in Future Tech, but Gensokyo will be protected by a "Prime Directive" (plot armor, basically) that'll prevent direct intervention of "unbalanced" Future Tech, such as large space-faring fleets battling with meddling Past/Modern tech nations, as to allow them a fair chance to play.

So basically entering gensokyo makes most technology not working properly.

Also to prevent large ships, even one of them pass through, we should only allowed entrance to gensokyo in the shrine or something only.. A gate small enough for people only. Being said, this is my opinion only.. You might have better settings to prevent those large vessel from entering..

The write-up explains some of this, but the village's population increase is tied into a weakening of the Great Hakurei Border. This weakening is large enough for lost people and entire groups of outsiders to come in, as referenced in the unknown, largely adult population boom in the Human Village, but not large enough - still - for unknown technologies to slip in. The Border is expected to hold and already does magically shield itself from the known civilized world. Detection of such a zone is possible, but physically entering Gensokyo's region doesn't always constitute admittance.

For a real-life analogy, some of Gensokyo's geography is based on real Japanese locations, where cities and people actually live. However, Gensokyo exists in an alternate dimension sort of way, granted by the Great Hakurei Border. Modern technology does not know to guarantee entering this dimension. Future Technology may know, but the "Prime Directive" is intended to restrict this. If a roleplay device is necessary to enforce this, then fine. However, minding the region's wish for a central location with their nations allowed for input, it is my intention that the region would respect such a rule.

I'm open to discussion about how the Prime Directive rule should be applied, but I believe it would not be in a region member's best interest to violate agreed-upon rules that - I believe - seek to enhance the experience of Gensokyo and its rarely-featured tech level.

*Immortal News*

Breaking news today a pro democratic movement has officially challenged the Pine Family for control of the Immortal Council. They say that Mons Montis isn't what it used to be. The Old Guard of the Immortal Council are entrenched in the position that the Immortal Empire is doing fine even though the people have little freedoms. Hopefully this challenge can be peacefully resolved.

Gensokyo should be the priority as it was... well.. Gensokyo... after all... With the multiverse settings already in place, we just need to regulate how it should be used to enter gensokyo..

Hikxx wrote:Gensokyo should be the priority as it was... well.. Gensokyo... after all... With the multiverse settings already in place, we just need to regulate how it should be used to enter gensokyo..

Again I'm open to ideas. I understand there's a problem, but don't have a prepared solution readily available here. :p

The write-up provides background as to what is happening. It is not intended that any force in Gensokyo (that we know of) intends for Gensokyo to be freely accessible. Should it be so, then the suggested plot should be a non-issue. Whatever solution the region wishes to implement should mesh with whatever the provided plot should be. If the best solution requires changing the plot, then sure.

Hikxx wrote:Gensokyo should be the priority as it was... well.. Gensokyo... after all... With the multiverse settings already in place, we just need to regulate how it should be used to enter gensokyo..

If it's only about characters, wouldn't a crashing fighter/transport ship suffice when it comes to space stuff. Realistically, ships used for intergalactic travel wouldn't be able to lift of planets anyway (without destroying the atmosphere that is) and even corvettes would likely be larger than airship carriers. A crashed transport, lost by the armada, would perfectly fit in that scenario. You bring a reasonably high level of technology, without disturbing the equilibrium as the amount of stuff will be limited.

A crashed transport can make sense, but would likely create an incident in itself in Gensokyo (after all, a flying ship in general garnered much attention during the events of Undefined Fantastic Object). However, a crashed transport followed by the crew accidentally wandering into Gensokyo attempting to scout for resources would both limit their access to technology (as Gensokyo is intended to be Past/Fantasy tech, as noted) and blend with the presented incident. It could be reasoned that the crew does not know how to return to their ship, thanks to the region's illusionary state.

Pidrotnia wrote:Pidrotnia is not a coward nation! Pidrotnia does not fear anything or anyone.

A Reminder of Fear

A transmission comes out of Kanna Kamui. The same low, guttural, demonic voice from the previous transmission begins to talk.

“Fear is such a fickle thing. This is not what I would call a fear tactic, though you can call it what you like. It doesn’t matter to me. I just don’t want you to misunderstand your place. But anyways...do you have any idea of who you’re talking to? I thrive on killing, pointless bloodshed, mass suffering, and the murder of innocents. I enjoy carnage and ruin, but I suppose I have become a bit softer with time. But I suppose you still don’t know who I am. That’s my guess on why you seem so unafraid of me. I think you at least deserve to know my name. You at least deserve to have an idea of who you are dealing with here...”

The voice pauses for a moment, then speaks up, this time much louder and more pronounced.

My name is Ridley. If you don’t know who I am, go and ask Admiral Hikaru. He can tell you that I am the last thing you would want to see on knocking on your doorstep. So would you please tell me, do you know who you’re dealing with?

The voice chuckles for a bit, before ending the transmission.
