I mean, people are being arrested in Kosovo and yet, Germany is quiet like a mummy. Sure you don't need to support their independence but pretending to be blind for an internal problem is even worse.

      BATTLE OF RWAMANGA
21 May 1994 - Rwamanga, Republic of Rwanda

After having taken Rutonde with little resistance, the Chief of Operations for SOOGR Iyesus Kofi has ordered some 5,000 soldiers of the unit to continue proceeding towards Kigali as part of the pre-planned offensive on the city, ordering the remaining soldiers to press on into the north of the country near Kinyami/Byumba to relieve RPF rebel forces in the area following a raid on government bases in Byumba which is suspected to have killed multiple high ranking officers. The 5,000 soldiers on the march to Kigali(designated Main Operations Group) set out from their position at Rutonde and head towards the nearest large settlement, Rwamanga. Early in the morning, commando mortars are used to target government defensive positions before a shootout begins between the East African paratroopers and loyalist Interhamwe militiamen occupying the town. Within six hours, Rwamanga falls with casualties reportedly low on both sides but over three hundred Interhamwe having been taken prisoner. MOG sets up humanitarian posts to service both the Interhamwe POWs and local civilians who have been without access to much of anything since the start of the genocide some months ago.

      BATTLE OF KINGFISHER BEACH
22 May 1994 - Kingfisher Beach, Republic of Rwanda

The other scattered units sent towards Byumba, called Relief Operations Group, marches north around enemy lines along Lake Muhazi bound northwest. Narrowly avoiding a real skirmish with Interhamwe militias initially, the ~4,000 soldiers of ROG are suddenly ambushed near the narrow end of the Lake at a small area known as Kingfisher Beach. Without any real indication, ROG is quickly attacked from the southwest and the west by large numbers of Interhamwe soldiers numbering roughly 560-700. Laying down fire with PKMs, AK-47s and other cheaply made Soviet weapons and knockoff firearms, the Interhamwe quickly pin down the ROG battalion and force them into a tenuous position on the edge of the lake. Supported by only a few dozen lightly armored military-grade cars, the ROG are quickly surrounded and left with little cover with increased exposure due to an advantage in elevation on the side of the Interhamwe, who essentially are shooting in a barrel. The battle, starting close to noon, rages on until three with casualties steadily mounting on both sides.

At this point, the ROG are ordered to make a push northwest along the lake. Using their cars with M2 machine guns mounted on them, the ROG makes a strong push against the dense but short enemy positions and successfully break through. At this point, air support in the form of four F-4E Phantom IIs come barreling over the sky of the lake from the east, making a danger close strafing run over the enemy positions with their M61 Vulcan miniguns while also dropping a total of 72 Mark 82 bombs on the enemy. The airstrike is extremely successful, neutralizing almost the entire enemy force. Having now broken out of their entrapment, ROG mops up the rest and takes very few prisoner, leaving the rest to die. Having taken some 50 casualties, ROG sends the dead and wounded to the rear and continues on their advance through the night.

      BATTLE OF MUYUMBU
23 May 1994 - Muyumbu, Republic of Rwanda

Two days after the capture of Rwamanga, the MOG finally draw near the true limits of Kigali, the main city well in sight from their positions outside of the small suburb of Muyumbu. Inside Muyumbu are thousands of Interhamwe alongside dozens of Presidential Guard armed with PKMs, AKs, RPDs, RPGs, and other genuine firearms capable of resisting the advancing East African infantry. With the situation in Kigali growing worse by the day, and fighting drawing more intense, the officers on the ground all know that breaking into the city before the start of June is a complete pipe dream and that fighting will be serious and brutal before Kigali is liberated. Nonetheless an attack on Muyumbu is started in the late morning of the 23rd of May, marking the beginning of the Battle of Kigali.

MOG are quickly bogged down as they try advancing down the main road and quickly fall back before noon, regrouping on the eastern end of the town. It is decided that instead of making a direct advance down the road into Kigali, Muyumbu must be surrounded and essentially destroyed with all of its guard. As such, the town is almost completely surrounded bar the western edges. In a turn of events, a flight of two Mozambican HAL-24 Marut CAS aircraft, piloted by Mozambican pilots trained by East African pilots following the transfer of old planes to the Free Republican Army of Mozambique. The sudden display of the roundel and other markings of Mozambique comes as a surprise but a welcome surprise all the same as the Maruts strafe the city with their eight 30 mm ADEN cannons and eight Mark 82 bombs, sending the defenders into disarray. One of the Maruts is seriously damaged by heavy machine gun fire, but both jets begin to high tail it back to their temporary base in Tanzania.

After the strafing run, MOG quickly proceeds into the town and massacres everything in sight that is found with a weapon. The Interhamwe and the Presidential Guard, still disoriented from the strafing run, are found in houses and behind sandbags and slaughtered en masse by the East Africans. Civilians that are found are sent to the rear as normal, but no prisoners are taken in Muyumbu. By nightfall, all but twenty of over 1,000 Interhamwe and Presidential Guard soldiers are dead or severely wounded, with the rest rounded up and thrown into a locked house which is promptly burned. The fire begins to engulf the rest of the town, setting it ablaze. The soldiers attempt to put out the fire as best they can but the effort ultimately proves fruitless- most of Muyumbu is burned to some extent. This "Disgrace of Muyumbu" quickly becomes secret and taboo even before the end of the day.

      BATTLE OF KIGALI
      24 May - 2 June 1994 - Kigali, Republic of Rwanda

There is no rest for the wicked, and early in the morning after the Disgrace of Muyumbu MOG is ordered to press on with their advance into Kigali. Coincidentally enough, the attack on the outer limits of the city coincides with the beginning of serious fighting between the Danish-led international peacekeeping forces in the city and the Hutu loyalists, giving an increased morale boost to the East Africans and their RPF allies. Kigali is much more heavily defended than Muyumbu or any of the small towns on the road to the city and the realization that the Battle of Kigali will take a lot of effort and a lot of casualties quickly becomes apparent as two East African soldiers die within the first hour of the battle proper. Although directly outside of the city, it still holds true that the RPF and East Africans will not break into the city proper until June unless a miracle occurs.

For the next ten days, fighting is sporadic but intense. When they are engaged, SOOGR forces take an increasing amount of wounded and a concerning amount dead. Ordered to spread out and attack the city along a long eastern front by COO Kofi, MOG soldiers simply become focused with surviving longer than the Interhamwe on the other side of their guns rather than capturing objectives such as Kigali International Airport. For seven days very little progress is made either way until it becomes apparent that, largely in part due to combined pressure from all sides, the loyalist forces have started to falter. Right before the beginning of June, some advances are finally made into Kigali proper. By the second day of June, Kigali International Airport is liberated.

The rest of Kigali will, in time, be liberated as well.

      BATTLE OF BYUMBA
29-31 May 1994 - Byumba, Republic of Rwanda

On the 29th, a tired ROG finally reaches Byumba where the efforts of Presidential Guard units to resist RPF rebels has been seriously faltering. With word of the attack on Kigali, morale is high but the soldiers are incredibly emotionally and physically exhausted, and as such ROG takes a support role allowing for the RPF to do most of the direct fighting instead. Mortars and heavy machine guns are used to great effect, but the RPF are easily outmatched by the Presidential Guard and after a day of unsuccessful fighting the East Africans are forced to get directly involved. Better equipped than their counterpart and with a clear numerical advantage, Byumba is crushed and with it the last bastion of loyalist defense in the north. With the fall of Byumba, all of northern Rwanda stands under the control of the RPF.

When next that America is online, I need to ask him if a small volunteer force of about 1,000-1,500 San Guardientean militia could have taken part in the American revolution.

This is part of my early history in which there was a wealthy Mulatto land owner who was inspired by the American revolution to try and convince the people of Hispaniola to rise up against the Spanish as well. To do that, he is both spreading around simple to read pamphlets in secret but I also think it would be cool for him to try and drum up a brigade of veterans by taking part in the war itself.
