Spokesmen for the Ministry of External Affairs announced that invitations had been sent to the governments of La Plata (Nevbrejnovitz), Peru (Jersey republic), Venezuela (Franiterstan), and Ecuador (Magyar nephadzerag) to attend a summit in Montevideo for the creation of a regional customs union and common market, to be known as the Union of South American Nations or UNASUR. In light of global trends towards free commerce and economic liberalization, it is the belief of Brasilia that South America stands to benefit from regional integration, the creation of a common currency, and the ability of ”our collective states to negotiate as one bloc”. Recognizing the ALBA’s rough start within the region, and negative reception across the globe, the Empire stood to offer an alternative to that the spirit of that organization – a united South America not be lost in translation because of ties to a single ideology.

In bilateral talks between Brazil and La Plata, UNASUR was to be an organization similar to that of the European and African Unions, where nations agree to lease an element of their sovereignty to a super national organization, democratically run by its members in the interest of regional stability and progress. While the common concern, even in Europe, over national independence, the Palace reinforced its public belief in the supremacy of the state as the sole sovereign authority and organization existing ‘above’ the state as advisory boards, forums to debate issues, solve disputes, and coordinate – not to impose its will upon its members. As such, negotiations for the formation of UNASUR is expected to meet its stiffest opposition from nationalist who oppose any organization who might seek to stifle the freedom of the state – something that the Ministry of External Affairs is confident will not halt the creation of UNASUR.

As representatives from each of Brazil’s sovereign powers were expected to arrive, the city of Montevideo, recently reunited with the Empire of Brazil prepared to receive a boost to the local economy – thanks to the arrival of the armies of diplomats, and their staff who would be received with cultural festivals, celebrations and other such things to make the leaders feel well at home with options to relieve stress outside of the meeting room.
