Second, I see no difference whatsoever between so-called "Balthorism" and the regime in China. I recognize that one is fictional, and one is real, and that you don't have to be consistent.

But please, give it a rest.

Life is not black-and-white and neither is politics. There are infinite shades of gray, and most systems of government in the world have serious flaws. The US is not without its sins, Britain is not without its sins, nor is France nor Germany nor Japan nor Spain. We're all proud of our countries, and we all think our countries are the best in the world - there's nothing wrong with thinking that or in loving one's country - but let's at least be open to the reality that other people love their countries too.

I don't mean to intrude, but I did take a significant interest in your political conversations (and just wanted to say hello from the New West Indies!).

That being said, Zach is probably right – the RMB presents a challenge when trying to have multiple conversations at once, even within roleplay. Discord is probably the way to go for such conversations.

NationStates is a game about geopolitics and debate. A majority of nations join nations just for debating with other people with similar passion for politics. That is why NationStates only has chatrooms and message boards, not roleplaying events, like wars and stuff. It wouldn't make sense to stop talking about politics.

China will never be stable, and a party with majority of support will never rise to power there.

I dunno, it's been pretty stable for the past 30 years or so. And while it's certainly not a democracy, the leadership beginning with Deng Xiaoping has brought incredible economic growth and lifted literally millions and millions of people out of poverty and into a middle class lifestyle.

I'm not at all a fan of the Chinese government; I wouldn't want to live in China and I wouldn't favor adopting the Chinese system. But you have to give credit where credit is due.

Kardaze is right, of course. And I think I overreacted a bit to Nogodia's post earlier. A lot of what Nogodia said is right, too.

I'm not a big fan of talking politics on the RMB - not because it's inappropriate but because inevitably it causes tempers to flare and causes friction among our members. But it's a perfectly legitimate topic, and nothing that Nogodia or God Tere Norld or Breen said is outside the limits of reasonable debate. I think the only one who overstepped here is me, and that's probably just because I'm tired and cranky. Maybe I need a nap . . .

Nogodia wrote:Seriously.
Let's just all acknowledge that the PR of China is a villain state as per E.J Balthor's definition.
1. It has heavily implied intentions to exert force over other sovereign states (such as Taiwan, North Korea, the South China Sea).
2. It actively suppresses human rights at a scale much greater than most if not all states at its level of development. Let's not even pretend like China is anywhere near the level of "free" that, for all its faults, the US is at.
3. It's responsible for North Korea's continued existence, and IDGAF what anybody has to say about China's "right to feel safe", it was a mistake, Mao and the leadership knew full well the future consequences of keeping the Kims in power, and chose to act on it instead of possibly turning America into their Good Friend™.

In defense of The People's Republic of China a country I support and whose leader I will continue to support. From 1981 to 2012 China lifted 500 Million people out of extreme poverty, they lifted more people out extreme poverty than live in the United States and almost as many people live in Europe or North America. This is not the first and probably no the last time I have heard such whining, but not once (I could be wrong) have I heard similar complaints about working conditions in other countries as if only China did this, this is not even taking into account that working conditions have steadily improved as China moved to a more technology-based economy.
And in response to Nogodia's 3 points
1a. Whether Taiwan is a sovereign state is still debatable since they still claim to be the leaders of ALL of China so even they say Taiwan in part of China.
1b. If it were not China N Korea would have done something stupid a long time ago.
1c. Lots of countries have claims over the south china sea it's just that now they have money to spend of militaries.

2. That depends on what you mean, there are many Chinese who know the CCP isn't perfect but are content with how China is, and they are free from being shot in their schools and stabbings of more than 2 people make headlines.

3. Firstly a disclaimer, I'm not saying Mao was a good person, he clearly wasn't but he wasn't stupid either. At the time Mao was in power the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc han not yet fallen and North and South Korea at the time were ruled by dictators one just happened to be communist and so HUGE shock Mao chose to keep the communist Native Chinese speaker Kim-il sung in power.

Thank you.

My point is:
One person might say that you have to know your place in society. One person might say that a society has to have people treated equally. One might want a combination of the two. Even if both people hate each other, they can't go around killing people because they think differently than them. It becomes "wrong", in my opinion, when people start killing themselves over what system is "right" and which is "wrong". For example: When communist Romania was bloodily overthrown in 1989, it was for "the good of the Romanian people". But what about the 700-1300 people who died? What about THEIR families and friends? What about their lovers? Comrades? Children? There is no way that killing people over political belief makes sense. Everyone will suffer in the end.

As for the PRO china,

They did good things. They did bad things. They cannot pay what dead people (Like Chairman Mao and his associates) have done in any way, so we must accept that they did good/bad and move on.

I know, and I think that RP was invented because people got bored just talking about politics and made a game out of it. One fascinating thing about our minds is that they can turn almost anything, even when players might live on opposite sides of the world.

*WHEEEEEEEEESSSHHHHHHH!!!*

Another train pulls into Union Station in Phoenix. Hundreds of men, carts, and even a few cannons and horses crowd the platform. The scorching sun beats down and the occasional gusts of wind kick up dust all around.

One soldier jumps out of, not a passenger coach, but a goods van.

“Thank the lord I’m out of that cattle car!” he says as he wipes some more sweat off his brow.

“Hey! Get out of the f*cking way!” shouts an officer as he and a couple other soldiers drag a small cannon across the platform.

“Alright, alright! Jesus… f*ck it’s hot.”

“D*mn right it is, 32 degrees!” interjects a passing soldier.

“Hey wait, you know where I go?!”

“Why would I mate? Heh.”

“Can you at least tell me where to gets some water?”

“Water! Hah!” the soldier walks off into the crowd.

“You there! Soldier! Stop standing around and get your ass moving!” barks an officer.

“I would if I knew where to go!”

“Which train you come on?”

“Uhhhh, the one that came in just now sir.”

“Right, get in the line that goes to the Diamondback Saloon, past the station on your right.”

“Right, thank you sir.”

The soldier makes his way through the crowd, and not even fifteen feet from the station is the start of the line to the Diamondback Saloon, which is three blocks away…

“Are you f*cking kidding me!”

20 minutes into the queue, he hears a loud thud.

“Send word to the front that the sun’s taken another!” cries a voice farther ahead in the line.

The soldier looks to the side of the line to see another soldier on the ground, motionless.

“Hey, what’s got to him?” the soldier asks the person in front of him.

“Same thing that’s gotten all the rest of ‘em, the sun.”

“Ain’t nobody gonna help him?”

“Nah, takes up too much energy, every bit of energy ya use to move brings ya closer to ending up like him.”

“D*mn. Hey ya know when we can get a refill in our catines, drank all my water back in that cattle car?”

“Mate, you aint getting water ‘til you head out and ACTUALLY start doin’ sh*t”

“F*ck…”

3 and a half hours, 17 men collapsed from heat stroke, and 7 gallons of sweat later…

“NEXT!”

“Finally…”

“Name?”

“Jean Paul”

“Okay Jean Paul, welcome to Phoenix, here’s your shovel, and follow the signs that say ‘Engineers this way’ and go from there.”

The officer hands Jean a rusty shovel.

“Um sir, I’m not an engine-”

“You’re not an engineer, you’re an infantryman, yeah yeah yeah, heard it a thousand times over, look kid as far as me and the army are concerned, for the time being, you’re an engineer, now get a move on, you’re holding up the line.”

“Uhhh… Okay…”

Jean leaves and exists the saloon. He sees something in the dusty road: a scorpion.

*WACK!*

“God I hate this place…” he says as he sees a sign that says “Engineers this way”.

Compared to whom? Switzerland? yes Belgium? yes North Korea? No The United States? No

I respectfully disagree,

It is true that they did lift 500 Million people out of poverty and that's good...but they are one of the most hostile nations in Asia.
The U.S poverty rate is around 12.3% base on US census of 2017 (39.7 million people live below the poverty line) compared to China 3.3%, which mean 45738000 million people are still below the poverty line in China.

Some of the points of why I don't like the CCP and their leader Xi Jinping.

1.) They invaded Vietnam in the 70s when Vietnam took down their supported regime in Cambodia because of their prosecution of Vietnamese people living in the country and their border skirmish/ mass genocide of civilians.

2.) I personally recognize Taiwan as a sovereign State. It has earned its rights to become one. In more recent times more people in Taiwan support a "Taiwanese" identity compared to "Chinese" identity.

3.) North Korea wouldn't have existed if it wasn't for the CCP to join in the Korean war and force the United Nations back. Which now hundreds/millions of N.Koreans
live in poverty and risk their lives to escape to South Korea let alone a literal nuclear dictatorship.

4.) Invasion/Annexation of Tibet.

5.) No freedom of speech and liberty

6.) Fake food market

7.) Drawing small countries into a debt trap to China

8.) Copy cat style on foreign tech/enterprises

9.) South China Sea harassment of foreign civilian fishers/weaponization of disputed islands

10.) Mass religious prosecution of Uighurs

11.) State censorship

12.) Tiananmen Square massacre

13.) Rapid modernization that required to bulldoze and move people out of their homes into new homes that have no sentimental value

14.) At least 45 Million Chinese deaths under Mao

and these are ones I can list from the top of my head.

Now that I've said that, I want to also affirm that I don't hold this view against the people of China or of people of Chinese descent.
This is my opinion against the government of China and how it's been conducting its activities in more recent times, they are free to do whatever they want, but I still have the right to openly criticize them. In addition to that, my culture and language hold many similarities with Chinese culture, in which I do appreciate. I also have international Chinese friends at school, and they would always talk about these issues with me and agree that they don't even support the CCP, but they were not allowed to say it when at school in Shanghai.

Personally, I'm tired of people trying to defend the worlds dictatorships and the communist regimes. If only their families lived in those countries (like mine did) that infringe on human rights and prosecution, then they shall understand that regardless of how much "good" a communist or dictatorship country seem to be doing.... it's only a facade to hide their true nature. I don't know about you, but as a 1st generation American, I am grateful to live in a country that has a fair democratic system of check/balances of power and where I can openly express myself as an individual and speak freely without fearing of legal prosecution. Speaking as an American, I will say that America is not the best country in the world, but I'll sure pick S.Korea, USA, EU, Canada, Singapore, Norway, NZ, or UK over China to live in any day.

Edit: This is in no way intended to target you (Breen) in any way. These are just my opinions/reasons and how I feel about the subject that was presented.

5.) No freedom of speech and liberty
