What a disgusting topic people are discussing. Nationalizing an industry may have some reason (though I do not agree with Nationalization regardless), but property? That is tyrannical and will make the government obtain a much higher degree of power over it's citizens.

Been lurking that one myself lately.
Nothing to intelligently respond to.
Just the same old talking points about private ownership being theft.

Narratves either spring from the usual suspects of the universe is a grand collective and the state is its pope, or the ideological embryos that just finished reading the Manifesto start gibbering about "pure" communism as if it has not been debated for the last 150 years and an original thought on it were even possible anymore.

Not really.
Tradecraft being what it is, we all dance the same dance, with maybe a little improvisation now and again that is as likely to kill you as the other guy depending on luck and skill.
One thing you could count on with the KGB is that it contracted its more direct wetwork against foreigners out to non-Russians.
So as long as it was just the agency you were dealing with you could shuck and jive at your leisure, but if you noticed Bulgarians creeping around, it was go time.

Exactly. The rich who made their wealth are hard-core Capitalists, while their unexperienced children are left-wing buttheads who have never worked in their life and think money appears out of thin air.

The real thorn is that they know quite well, and are opposed for more pragmatic reasons for them.

Two things that fuel a free society's infrastructure and maximize its socioeconomic mobility are cheap electricity and gasoline.

So it is no wonder that in the US the production of both has been stymied since the 1980s by Progressive controlled agencies.

Just a funny thing about my state right now.
While American blue states are bleeding healthcare professionals who are migrating to less restrictive red states who also generally pay better, my state while less restrictive is losing its people because it pays less than the other red states.

60% of American Democrats believe that if you question the efficacy of vaccines you should be fined.

Figures. Few media consumers of any ideology understand that you do not get on TV without agreeing to advance the media's narrative first.
So the "experts" waxing philotechnical (just made that up) on a cable news show are pretty much politically compromised from the start.

40% of American Democrats believe that the unvaccinated should be institutonalized in an unspecified fashion.

That to me is not as prevalent as I thought would be considering the amount of irrational fear maintained in their culture.

30% of American Democrats believe that the children of the unvaccinated should be taken by government until the parents are reconditioned.

This naturally follows on the former poll, and combines with their general desire for the State to have primacy in raising children.

I hear that there has been a stronger move towards this in Canada.

We're all snowflakes here in Canada. Majority of Canadians believe the unvaccinated should be fined as well, and should be excluded from some medical services as they "don't want to protect themselves".

In Quebec monthly fines are happening for the unvaccinated, and Trudeau did not only allow it, but is encouraging it

Par for the course.
Do you sense that he may continue to expand on that?

Also, there is a nation on that nationalized housing thread called Novus America making some good points.

I don't really agree with nationalizing housing lol but maybe subsidized housing for families and replace property tax with a Land Value Tax. What I find ironic is these are the same people that complain about monopolies but have no problem with the government having a monopoly over something.

As a survivor of a Democrat managed inner city, I do not recommend government standardized/subsidized housing on any scale at any government level.

The insidious thing the Department of Housing and Urban Developement (HUD) does is pressure property owners/managers in the suburbs to take dollars from them to rent/let apartments and houses in middle class communities in pursuit of social justice.

Remember that saying about girls and trailer parks.

So that culture sets in and begins to ruin demograhics, not to mention that the disparity between what the subsidized and unsubsidized pay for their homes gets reflected in the property value eventually regardless of creative public and private book cooking. Investments bleed value, allowing the government to tempt the ownership to sell off more and more of its interests until the government is left holding the whole bag in a lot of cases. Which is what it wanted to start with.
I have seen many decent subdivisions built in my youth 20-30 years ago steadily decay into slummish consition because of this.

Most American states fund their respective public education sectors with property tax.
For many states this allows for low or no state income tax.
I do not genrally have a problem with this, and would have even less of a problem if the property owner had at least a 90% say in where and how their child was educated.

XKI Game-Side

This month our favorite Regional Pollster, Jabberwocky, brought us two polls themed around the holidays! The first one asked Islanders if they agreed to Christmas music in public and the second one asked them if they liked eggnog for the holidays.

In the first poll, there were 170 voters: 16 (9.41%) said “no” because Christmas music in public was annoying, 70 (41.17%) said “yes” because it placed them in the holiday spirit, 18 (10.58%) said “no” because it infringed upon their rights as non-Christians, 12 (7.05%) said “yes” because it is spiritually uplifting, 18 (10.58%) said “no” because of the commercialism advertised in those songs, 20 (11.76%) said “yes” because they could hear the sleigh bells ringing, and 16 (9.41%) said "Humbug” in a pirate way to express their feelings that Christmas music in public is insincere and hypocritical.

In the second poll, there were 129 voters: 44 (34.10%) said “yes” because eggnog is delicious and essential for the holidays, 73 (56.58%) said “no” because it is an abominable, ghastly concoction, and 12 (9.30%) said “yes” as long as the eggnog was heavily spiked.

Much like last month, it was miserable to look at every December RMB post...well, maybe I’m exaggerating. The RMB was slightly less busy than the previous month, but I do know one thing that didn’t change: the abundance of absolutely hilarious moments!

Meet The Nation

This month our Emissary Update staff interviewed Jabberwocky, the longtime Regional Pollster.

Haivon: Hello Jabberwocky! Could I ask you some few questions for the Emissary Report?

Jabberwocky: Of course! Fire away.

Haivon: In first of all, how did you joined NS and why did you decided to join 10000 Islands?

Jabberwocky: I first read about NationStates four years ago inside the back cover of a novel by Max Barry; perhaps it was Syrup. I thought it sounded intriguing and tried it out. I drifted about for a few months, trying out various regions. As a WA member, I read Lenlyvit's proposal to Commend Europe. The bit about defending appealed to me. I asked Ms. L how one becomes a defender; she suggested The Grey Wardens or XKI. Thus the 10000 Islands became my home; here I remain.

Haivon: After you joined the region, what made you stay here?

Jabberwocky: As I strolled around the grounds, everyone was friendly and helpful, open minded and tolerant. That atmosphere appealed to me then, and still does.

Haivon: When and how did you become the Regional Pollster?

Jabberwocky: Nearly three years ago, the Ministry of Labor posted a job opening for Pollster to replace an outgoing Pollster. I applied for the job and somehow fooled them enough to get it. Back in those days we had two Pollsters.

Haivon: How do you usually get the ideas for those polls?

Jabberwocky: I get ideas from...the news, from real life. Or I make something up. Or I steal from someone else.

Haivon: In the past, you used to do a monthly regional newspaper called The Mad Surfer, which was a predecessor to the Emissary Report, and many Islanders, myself included, were once interviewed by it. Is there anything about it you would like to tell us?

Jabberwocky: TMS was a spur of the moment flash in the pan that got lucky enough to tickle the fancy of the reading public, probably due to its irreverent approach. Not a precursor to the Emissary Report, it ran concurrently. But, as trends do, TMS eventually lost its luster. Fortunately, the Emissary Report is a worthy successor.

Haivon: Well, I suppose that this is it. Is there anything you want to say for the interview?

Jabberwocky: Yes. The best is yet to come.

Haivon: Thank you for your time!

Jabberwocky: Are you kidding? For an old pal? No problem!

Hope to see you all next month, your XKI Update Staff is signing off!

Yes, and when I use terms like Satanic, Luciferian, or Mephistophelian, I am trying to be more philosophical in the place where people would generically use the term evil, because I do not like to throw the term around lightly.
Understanding the nature and character of the Adversary actually brings into sharper focus the intent and motivation of authoritarian ideologies.
You do not have to be a believer for it to be philosophically relevant, and it can be an illustrative, informative, and entertaining line of study.
