NES, the Prince (sometimes known as the Prince of Darkness) does a lot more of the back end type stuff. So for example; influence calculations, security and bridging ties to other regions. He is a different sort of leader than I am, and in many ways I feel it compliments.

Also, school resources are for school work!! In Duridia, pretty sure that would get you locked up at least. Who knows, I might have commissioned some sort of death squad for distracted students over time...Yikes.

Also we do provide homework help on the forums, although it tends to be mainly me asking for help lol

I post on the forum, on average over the past 5+ years, 3 times a day. A fairly sophisticated board with many subforums, and threads within them - rather than a single thread message board. I've also contributed my WA nation here, for the security of the region, over the majority of that period.

If making a post every couple of weeks on a single thread would change your perception of me, then its not a perception I am bothered about.

Should we gather for whisky and cigars tonight?

We should gather, but not for whisky and cigars, because those our bad for your health and will ruin your "allegedly peer-reviewed" cuteness :P

Wine and cheese, then?

Different people prefer playing the game differently. Some are going to contribute to the forums, others are going to contribute here on the RMBs. Now, I do agree that those in leadership positions should try and reach a healthy balance between the two, but there's no reason for us to imply that they have done absolutely nothing for the region, just because you don't agree with how they play the game.

North East Somerset is one of Balder's longest government officials and citizens. He has served this region in many different roles tirelessly for years now. And he is still going to this day. From being Crown Prince to Forum Administrator, he works hard to keep this community as safe as possible, both here on the RMB (by ensuring that our Delegacy is secure) as well as on the forums. And for those efforts, he deserves our utmost thanks and appreciation.

I live in Arkansas, so we hardly ever see snow. You can just send some of it my way to get it off your hands. :D

No snow in TN, either.

As far as the whole "Forum leaders should be on the RMB more", I kind of have to agree with Tomb. Given that this is probably the most sustained activity the RMB has seen in who knows how long (and yes I was part of that problem, going silent for most of the last year) it's hard to blame the hardcore forum players for not paying as much attention to it. By that same token, it's hard to blame people who have only interacted on the RMB for not joining the forum and taking part there more. I'm definitely working on that area myself. And it's clear that while NES may not be as active here as he is there, the leadership as a whole has made more of an effort to be involved with us now that we've been more active (probably in good part because of Fakeland's efforts to integrate more).

I live in Singapore, which is just above the equator. The day we get snow is probably gonna be the day the Earth ends.

Do any of you guys cook?

I can confirm only a smattering of light 60F rain in Southern California at this very moment.

Yes :)

You're a guy? :O
I always thought you were a gal!

And I can cook too (actual cooking, as in, preparing and combining ingredients, not just sticking something in the toaster :P ).

Lordren

I'm not the greatest cook -- I just started making my own biscuits from scratch, and I'm not that good at it yet, for example -- but I can definitely do some pretty decent light cooking. I'm especially good at making eggs of all kinds, with breakfast burritos being my specialty.

So you're going to be rude to the longest standing member of Balder, seems like a fail in leadership and knowledge to me.

Ravenlumis wrote:So you're going to be rude to the longest standing member of Balder, seems like a fail in leadership and knowledge to me.

Well I don't think it is being rude, it's just stating the facts of the matter. Equally, the length of membership of the region does not grant status or authority, that is gained through our constitutional and political system and the level of contribution in Government.

We have to accept that the forum is a superior arrangement to this RMB, which has more to offer in terms of using it as a platform for governmental and community interactions. That's why nations need to join the forum to become a Citizen there, in order to participate in the Governmental apparatuses of the Region. That's the reality, that's the way it works, and indeed the way it's always worked. There's no denying that is the system we have at the moment. Both here, and indeed in most other large regions in NationStates.

What we want to do is get more people involved though in participating in Balder, and if reaching out to the RMB is going to help that, then its something we need to do more of. But it isn't a failure of leadership for individuals to not participate in RMB discussions. The RMB is essentially a chat box for residents, and so participation is entirely optional.

What matters is that we bring more issues to the nations of Balder who want to have a stake in the Governance of this region. More areas they can participate in, without necessarily having to register on the forums, such as deciding the Delegate vote on General Assembly issues. This is something we're working on improving.

Victory, we got him to post again!

Okay, my poll on forum activity is almost over, and I'd like the people who have become inactive, or had-a-look-but-didn't-join to let me know why.

Weather you found the forum difficult to navigate/understand, if it was because the forum was too inactive/dead when you looked, maybe you didn't like the colour scheme, or didn't find something you were expecting (such as roleplay). So please comment on the RMB, or telegram me.

Oh, and say when the last time you checked the forums was, because there's been some significant improvements in the last few months (i.e. me joining, and spamming the place up).

K thnx, bye :)

North East Somerset wrote:...the length of membership of the region does not grant status or authority, that is gained through our constitutional and political system and the level of contribution in Government.

You do understand that's all fantasy, right? For those of us more rooted in this game for the genuine political aspects and the very real day to day, cause-and-effect elements of game-play (answering issues, participating in WA (for what it's worth), building/guiding our nations) length of membership in a region is the only concrete measure of status.
If playing royal family is your thing, fill your boots. I'm glad you've found a niche that you enjoy, but that's not for everyone. Taking the stance that your way of playing this game is the only valid way of playing, is absurd.

I've been here 4 years and still find the forum incredibly difficult to navigate. As I've said in past, I stopped visiting the forum because it was way too much of the same 10 people telling each other how great they are. I made efforts in past to participate in things like elections, but could never find the gd threads. I saw Fake's post last week about elections, gave the forum another chance and the first thing I found was a thread about Rach's bewbs. I didn't even bother logging in after that - because from my perspective, nothing has changed. If you want people to take this stuff seriously and participate, then move the clubhouse to a sub-forum and put things like elections front and centre.

Which proves several things:

  1. You have more free time that many of us here.

  2. You prefer the company of your old NS cronies over us "little people" who inhabit the RMB. BTW, I am registered on the forum, but find it filled with cronyism and exclusion and not open and inviting.

  3. I don't have a WA membership because I, personally, don't like how the WA resolutions muck up my nation's statistics.

  4. I am the oldest resident of Balder and you are 25th.

  5. That you feel that we are beneath you and that you reproach us.
