But on the other hand, do we really care that much about a nation from a decade ago that nobody remembers? If you could say "Taaru" and nobody but Farf and maybe Geisen and Val (ie, the nations in immediate proximity to it) would bat an eye, I'm going to say the name of the waterway really doesn't matter as long as the active players who border on it agree on the change.
Thing is, we go so far as to remove inactive nations from the map, and nations that were relevant at that! Kinitaria hosted an AOCAF Cup and he's no longer on the map. We're not even sure if Taaru was an AO nation, and the Boneyard says their last activity was over 12 years ago! It also looks like they existed for less than a year.
BTW, I'm actually pretty serious about this, in case my tone didn't show it. It's mildly frustrating being the only island in a sea, for five years, and having to stick with its name even though you really don't like it. I mean, I won't throw a fit over something as minuscule as this if it's deemed as somehow overstepping boundaries... but it really feels like there's no real reason to deny me this request.
I'm not sure this conversation should be had in the AO RMB, though. Maybe it's worth moving to the forums or something?
Hosting a sporting event is different then being active in the region, however.
I'm not arguing that Taaru was the most active AO nation of all time (or even in their own time) but they were a nation that existed when the waterways were being named, they were an active nation at the time and they contributed to the AO Forum in the more II/region building/non-sportsy related way.
Kinitaria on the other hand, while they did host an AOCAF, had less all time contributions to the AO Forum and exclusively contributed to AOCAF/sports related items.
I'm not saying I'm opposed to the name changing, but I would say it would probably have to be something that is at least RP'd either in the AO Forum or at the very least ghosted into the AO Forum after being RP'd elsewhere; for sake of history/documentation. We have lots of references on the AO Map to former nations who had varying levels of importance/activity in their time. There isn't a hard fast rule to why one nation finally gets removed over another its just kind of a 'feel' thing sometimes and, quite honestly, the reason it wasn't taken too much consideration six days into your AO residency was because you were six days into your AO residency. I'm sure we'd all be welcome to working with you on an RP about this topic.
Also for reference you can do searches for the history of old nations on the AO Forum just by entering their nation name (user name) and making sure in your search settings you select "Posts From.... Any Date" opposed to "Last 30 days" which seems to be the default.
Good luck, Qads. I've beaten you in football. And now I'll beat at hockey.
Happy late birthday!
So I heard the tragic news we send our condolences
Nah, it's time for confetti! Someone's got the obituaries!
On the note of naming conventions, you could do the strange isolationist thing and just call certain things certain other names - just means that no one else gets to recognize what you're talking about half of the time when you saying "GIT OFF MY BLURBLARB!" (owait, that's confusing all of the time). Anyway, stop putting your trash in my Blurblarb!

Can we have the timezones? I heard we had them once. I can design them on the map.
Guys you don't have to speculate
The AO Forum literally serves as a history book. Thats why we put stuff in there for the record :)
Just go to the search function, type 'timezone' and you see the timezones... on a map, as well as a thread where all the decisions about timezones were made.
I know we don't use the forum as much now that there is a dedicated forum for NS Sports and we don't do as much non-sport RP... but that doesnt mean we have to forget everything and start over :) Now if we want to change the timezones by all means start a new thread. But this is the second discussion in as many days that folks could have been more informed from the start by making a simple ao forum search on the topic :D
tbh I had no idea there was anything of note on the AO forum. Even when I joined up in 2012-2013 it just seemed like the place AOCAF signups happened.
But the map on that forum redirects me to Imageshack's home screen.
Not the one in "old maps" labeled "Timezones"...
NOT this one? http://www.3wideracing.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=926&st=0
Thats the timezone discussion thread, where all the preliminary discussions took place.
The map thread, is where all the old maps are. It also shows up in the search for the word "Timezone" - and is the only other result in the search other than some references in old AOCAF threads.

When you get there just look at the list of all the old maps there is one labeled timezones and a few others that have the timezones imprinted on them typically those labelled 'cities' as those are the ones with greater detail.
I still prefer my version-in-the-making.
You can find anything in the AO forum: the end of the rainbow (congruent with the end of a circle), the answers to life, the universe, and everything (42 - we've determined this ten-ninety-three times before!), the rational root of pi, a cure for happyness, Starblaydia's binky (surprise, it's not purple), Waldo, Amelia Earhart, Jimmy Hoffa, Mr. Rogers, and my sanity (it's in there for a reason, KEEP IT THERE) - just to name a few...
Well I guess its time to make a new thread then :)

There might be some instructions in the AO forum...
