Here's the thing: we can work out precisely how man tanks, guns, aircraft, whatever each nation has, but that's dull and means old nations who NS stats say spend a lot on military (hello Starblaydia, particularly) can have 50 million service personnel without even trying.

Here, however, we tell stories, not play with stats. Between us we craft the outlines of whatever conflict we're doing, then work towards those outcomes in battle and in war. I'm not into the 'competitive' RP style, where we're trying to hoodwink and outdo each others tactical and strategic moves each time, before posting loss numbers.

I keep going back to Operation Galactica, but that was great fun and probably the best multi-national non-sport RP we got going. We built alliances naturally on the forums, then posed and postured and proclaimed for a few months, then behind the scenes we worked out what the grand strokes would be (I go to war, kick ass then get dogpiled until surrender), then boom, we went for it and everyone gets their five minutes of glory and awesome RP memories for future banter and development.

From the assassination attempt on my leader, to firing an orbital weapon through one of Falc's flying aircraft carriers to destroy the city below it as I was about to surrender... that was a jolly fun war that kinda reshaped the region.

To get three, however, we need to work out who's who. I can't be the only one guilty of not knowing much, or indeed anything, about a whole bunch of nations in AO that isn't anything to do with their sports team. How best to change that organically and not by some forced kindergarten show and tell?

Two truths and a lie?

I'm game

I'm just saying, if war breaks out, I have an entire thread on the AO Forum talking about how AORDO gave us land to train Cocoabo.

Now, so far, the only training you guys have been made aware of is Football and Motorsport.

That doesn't mean there aren't other projects going on deeper in the forest...

Ah, so you're the reason that in Southern Mertagne, there have been reports of a strange creature spotted in the border forest... #BigBeakIsReal

A: Indeed, the only things that I know of is what i've read my many rpss and those who have factbooks, plus what's already on the forum.
B: We could start with simple diplomatic rps or galas which is very common ways that those on the International Incidents meet each other and learn a bit about each other, which often dive into trade and military talks. Or create a regional newswire.

I'm quite active among the non-sports part of NS(with other accounts) so for me this all seems very simple, but for a region like ours that hasn't really dipped it's toes into anything but sports for a very long time this is quite the challenge. (don't burn me at the stake for saying this) If say we would prefer to do some more regular rps we could copy the system they have in Rushmore. I mean on their RMB they have their regional newswire, capital of culture, regional union, and yet they have still very active. They have created a system that keeps everyone involved whether they are into sports or not and what they have has been very successful.

Just mentioning things in your Regional Factbook doesn't mean they are active or involved, though. I mean - look at the AOHC :D

This seems like a good way to get things started. Another way to think about alliances what they have in common; some are made due proximity to each other, some are built to counter a specific threat, while some are created around a central political/religious/ideology. If there are AO nations with certain idelogical positions that others share/align themselves with, there could be an interest 'Cold War capitalism v communism showdown' sort of conflict.

With all these discussions of new alliances/conflicts/AORDO, maybe an AO renaissance is in order 🤔

okay but don't tell rushmore I agreed or I'll never hear the end of it

If someone were to ask for official 95X numbers, my answer is/was there was no need for them to be compiled. (Unrealistic, yes, but it is an answer.)

Also, before going inactive, I was thinking of an RP series that would have delved into the dirty side of 95X: something entirely plausible given how messed up it was. If I have time to RP it at some point, I might still do so.

Also, I was thinking of a military-like organization somehow taking hold of and establishing order, led by none other than, yep, Xi Foureleven. (Since at this point she ages as much as Ash Ketchum.)

To whoever maintains AO's forums, do you know why I'm unable to start threads despite being verified?

I think you just have to make a reply first, before you can make a new thread
