We used to have more regional competitions, that mostly vanished. Props to you for offering to bring one back.
Well that was do in part when the forum was far more active, when I first arrived here 5 years ago we had maybe 10-15 posts a month in that place.
A super-reliable NS forum largely killed off the posts on our regional board, which has also screwed us with recruitment and interaction outside of sports on NS.
I'd be interested if we could get some regional RP going again, outside of sports comps. Except for the AOCAF Cup, because every region had a football tournament, we get our fix for other sports on NS-wide tournaments and four or five people RPing in a minority sport tourney is a little... minor league for AO.
I wouldn't mind trying to bring back, say, AORDO (Regional Defence Organisation) and RP it on NS or our forums, but we'd need antagonists for that and I'm not quite up to being the Big Bad again, hehe.
Non sense I'm sure the region could do with a region wide war, as long as it doesn't end with the Starbladian flag planted on every continent after a thermonuclear war. :P
There are some great RP opportunities as well for a radiated nation to rise in the north west where Tachbe and Sorthern Northland have already become nuclear wastelands. Seems like thats the area to be if you want thermonuclear war. :P

I am very interested in bringing back the AORDO and have been mentioning it in some earlier RPs so if we could get do more interest it could be revived, expanded, and broadly RPd
The reason why AORDO didn't particularly go anywhere is because we had a NATO without a Warsaw Pact, an Allies without an Axis. People joined the region, signed up and - hurrah - we have an organisation to defend the region. But, the problem was, defend the region from what? The only real instance I can think of was Latao, who came in, acted silly, went to throw nukes around and then AORDO came down on them like a ton of bricks. Not exactly all-round fun.
It only really got interesting when we formed internal alliances - SAAS and FLMS/SDL - because you had two sides (then we got the neutral third side, too) who could butt up against each other and cause some real friction. Everyone on the same side in AORDO doesn't provide that same immediate opportunity to have multiple sides with differing opinions.
Unless, of course, we have factions within AORDO, like it's the European Parliament or something, and representatives from the nations form power blocks. But then, other than the chamber within which to talk, what's the point of AORDO? I think if we can work that out, and set up the basis where we can RP within more easily, then fun stuff will flow.
You know, I think the solution to our problem is more plain than it seems...

Obviously it's hard to determine "you and you and you will be x alliance" while 'you and you and you will be y alliance' isn't exactly a natural and sustainable way to go about doing things; however if people were interested in being the bad guy/an alliance with 'bad' puppets that would go a long way towards creating meaningful RPing. Of course, a certain level of give and take would be required to ensure longevity of this RP series, and would require people willing to be the morally "bad guys" but there is a path to a descriptive and long lasting regional/international RPing.
Why have "good" vs. "bad" anyhow? Everyone is a little of each really.

Not so much 'good' vs 'bad', but certainly everyone is a good guy in their own story, we just need two who think they're good guys but totally opposed to each other, then others can follow suit :)
Good thing we've got ten years worth of old rps to figure that out.

I've been thinking of a more or less sure fire way to escalate tensions between to very old rivals, by if Fal wishes too, lease an old joint military/naval base in the north eastern of my country and give them free access to the Gateway Canal.
After eleven years, two civil wars and 789 billion dollars latter the 231 mile long Gateway Canal welcomed the first ships early today. The canal connects the Myto River in the northern Guiana province to the East River in Bekk province, and overall connects Lake Bekk to the Calanian Sound.
When first thought of by then President Calman the idea was to help the national economically as it will help serve three other nations to help export their goods to international markets with a small fee. As of a 2011 estimate the canal will boost the WG economy by WG 300 billion a year in revenue and increase the GDP by 3.1% over ten years.
Also though let us not forget when doing rps such as these, what are the dimensions of AO? In comparison how big is the regions map to the RL, is the map in equal size to the planet or say Asia? Before a rp should start we would need to lay down the basics, such as what is the appropriate nation population?
Ehhh... I'm not experienced at this military/international incident RP stuff but I don't see why you'd need to know dimensions and populations, really.
Distance can be approximated; I'm far more concerned about Kryosi nukes than Vilitan nukes, for what I hope are obvious reasons. It doesn't really matter how far away each of those nations actually is, unless I intend to RP in-depth about the time taken for my forces to travel etc etc. And even then, I'd probably just estimate based on time zones. We have a time zone map, right?
Population figures not matching up could easily be because of propaganda, falsified records, my own intelligence agency's incompetence etc etc. I could quite easily RP that Osarian Intelligence estimates the Cosumarite military to be 3m, and Cosumar might be working with an actual military of 5m. If anything it adds flavour, no?
Or am I missing something here?
