I'm going to start a new tradition that I'll do semi-weekly/bi-weekly/more often if inspiration especially strikes.
I'm will post a brief factoid or trivia piece about my nation. The first one will follow after this post.

Should I also post in the thread as well?

This week on "Believe it or Not: The Order of Makai Edition"!

Corruption is endemic throughout the Order of Makai, unlike other nations and especially unlike human-run nations however, monetary bribes are never asked for. Instead, the corrupt official; almost invariably a Mamano; will instead attempt to induce single men into indulging in minor sexual or romantic favors. The types of favors demanded run the entire gamut of inconsequential acts up to demands for a date. Most commonly, a single Male may find himself being asked to "give a kiss, for luck" when dealing with Police or even Bureaucrats, refusal of such a minor request might see the man held up or even detained in the case of police, and refusing the request of a Bureaucrats might see the other Bureaucrats of the office interfering and attempting to coerce the man into complying. Minotaur and Holstaur officials are especially notorious for demanding "oral assistance" with their lactation; even though Minotaurs only lactate when induced to by Demonic Energy or when pregnant; with police of these kinds of Mamano being especially aggressive and likely to detain single men until they finally surrender and nurse from the Holstaur or attempt to "nurse" from the Minotaur.

I think it's fine to post here so long as it's not too riské. Your last post there might be crossing the line if the hot pockets take an interest in our RMB.

Except for the refugees/imported"goods" from Aplurhan where does Makai get their single human men from? Are there even any left overthere with that kind of corruption?

Aplurhan wrote:Except for the refugees/imported"goods" from Aplurhan where does Makai get their single human men from? Are there even any left overthere with that kind of corruption?

I write with the assumption that Mamano have always been able/have recently been made able to birth Human Sons. The Chief God has no power over the true and faithful.

Aside from births and immigration/refugees/ensnared tourists, the Order of Makai gets single human men from conquests and annexations. I will be dealing with how exactly men are "pro-actively dated" in such a scenario in a later factbook, but to cover the basics only the captured and surrendered soldiery and surviving government officials are "coerced" in anyway, the civilian population is very much NOT captured or in anyway forcibly taken, we're civilized you know; rebels and insurgents on the other hand are more than fair game.

By the way, what exactly did you mean by "imported goods"? The Order of Makai does not participate in slave trading and condemns the practice, even in "fellow" Monster-Aligned states that "merely sell-off husbands" who are "freed" afterwards.
The Order is only involved in the slave trade in two ways.
Firstly, through sting operations and raids on slaver operations; "legal" or not, with foreign national sovereignty often ignored when convenient; these attacks are popular amongst the Mamano in the Order's military, as liberated slaves are often very willing husbands and sister-wives.
Secondly, through humanitarian Mamano (be they individuals or NGO-type groups) and the Makaian Church buying slaves from slavers that the Order's military forces are; for whatever reason; unable to attack. Foreign parishes of the Makaian Church buying slaves from local slavers that they're unable to more permanently deal with due to political factors is the most common occurrence of this phenomenon, but there is at least one dedicated anti-slavery NGO that is native to the Order of Makai.

mhh who is even left purchasing from me? The only ones I was in contact with are gone. Time to buy some advertisements.

Shinzo Abe was just assassinated. Out of all the politicians in the world, why'd it have to be that one? I can think of a dozen better choices off the top of my head.

EDIT: According to initial reports, the assassin thought he was targeting the head of some religious group he had a grudge against.

I tried a new brand of premade chicken tenders today. They were a bit overspiced with black pepper so I dont think I'll buy them again.

Jeez, he wasn't even in office anymore, he was just supporting another party member. No idea if it was truly a random schizo or an actual op considering that Japan is a battleground country, especially since I do not know if Abe stepped on their toes somehow despite being effectively retired and not really relevant anymore.

What the lol, someone tried to log into my nation with an incorrect password. That notification is a neat little feature I guess.

This week on "Believe it or Not: The Order of Makai Edition"!

The preponderance of Mamano who naturally possess long lifespans; outside of the rejuvenative and life-extending effects of Mamano Mana; within the Order of Makai has led to the adoption of some curious laws and cultural norms. Mamano are permitted by law to claim that they are the age that they visually appear to be and be legally treated as such, even if they are in fact centuries old. The only circumstances in which this would not be permitted are those that would involve being considered a minor, but the fact that the age of majority within the Order of Makai is lower than what it typically is in other Human Nations can undermine this purpose in the eyes of these international observers.
The broader Makaian culture has entrenched this "age-relativism" rather firmly, virtually all Mamano who will naturally live long lives will engage in this chicanery at least once, with the most frequent offenders being Demons and Elves, and this chicanery often taking the form of "literally reliving/experiencing for the first time mortal High School/College". This tomfoolery is not even necessarily limited to those types of long-lived Mamano either, as due to the previously mentioned effects of Mamano Mana, couples and magically attuned Mamano may even engage in this after experiencing decades or centuries in their extended lifespans.
This tradition of age-relativism is so entrenched that asking someone about their actual age is considered a social faux-pas unless that person is seeking to court the other; which enables so-called "Cradle Robbers" to be especially bold in their advances upon their younger paramours.

I revised the final part of my National Factbook intro to better reflect my intentions with my nation, let me know what you all think.

"For the Mamano within the Order of Makai will forever remember the valour of the Ardent Crusaders in their original rebellion, marveling that they gave so freely the life of which they had so little in comparison, an act all the more poignant due to doing so for their sake when most distrusted or even hated Mamano because of the lies of the Enemy; and forever lamenting that they had to die at all in their struggle to break free of the Order of the Chief God's tyranny.
It is this sorrow which motivates the Mamano of the Order of Makai on their march, for they dream of a humanity liberated from the Shadow which has revealed itself at last within the Order of the Chief God and united with them in a truly holy matrimony, a world where no Man will die or fall into a corrupted and base state because of the machinations of the Enemy, and thus the Order marches forth in conquest, all for the good of Man they proclaim."

Sorry for my absence lately. My main hard drive gave up the ghost. I've not lost everything, but I have lost all the stuff I was presently working on including replies to people.

Damn. Sorry to hear that that happened, how exactly did your hard drive fail? My own is still kicking even after 12 years.

At the very least, I'm glad to hear that this sudden absence was just temporary and unforeseeable.

This week on "Believe it or Not: The Order of Makai Edition"!

The myriad military forces of the Order of Makai are even more imbalanced than the civilian population when it comes to gender ratios. While the average civilian male is typically outnumbered 3 to 2, the maternalist culture that is prevalent among Mamano combined with the religiosity of the Nation conspire to keep the vast majority of Men at home with their spouse(s); with the result being that a man serving in the military is outnumbered 4 to 1 at an absolute minimum, with the more likely ratio being 6 or 5 to 1. The Knightly Orders and the Paladin Order are the exceptions to this rule due to their origins, but as they are elite forces with exacting and exclusive recruitment practices, they cannot be considered normative.
This gender imbalance not only colors the traditions of the various military forces as would be expected, but also typically relegates men who serve away from combat roles, with only dedicated and proficient male soldiers being able to push past these well-intentioned exclusionary practices. It says a lot about the character and prowess of the men of the Order of Makai that almost all of the enlisted men who explicitly wish to serve in combat are able to do so.
Regardless of if they are serving in combat or support roles, enlisted men invariably have to deal with the various "traditions" and culture of the branch that they serve in.
The Army Regulars have the tradition of sleeping four to a bed, ostensibly to economically use available space due to their focus on mass warfare. The unspoken rule is that one of those four is a man and the other three are Mamano. It was frowned upon for men to attempt to subvert this rule by sleeping together with the other men in the unit, but after an incident in which four men who slept together out of a want for a "manly sleepover" transformed into Alps, this was explicitly forbidden.
The Warrior Lodges typically only permit men to serve in combat if they are married to one or more of their Mamano, resulting in a battle couple or throuple; there are even rumors of a legendary "battle harem", wherein the entire unit was all married to the same man.
The Church Frateris are perhaps the most exclusionary amongst these forces, often preventing even perfectly capable men from serving in combat in this militia. The few men who do serve in combat are either warriors par excellence; or more often mere combat medics.
The Inquisitorial Troopers are the most egalitarian amongst these forces, with men serving in combat just as readily as the women, but this is to be expected due to their nature as handpicked bodyguards and retinue to an Inquisitor/Inquisitrix. Indeed, the lack of any of the traditions or cultural practices of the other branches of the Makaian military serves to make the forces of the Inquisition even more intimidating in the eyes of other Mamano.

The Order of Makai wrote:The Army Regulars have the tradition of sleeping four to a bed

Wouldnt that lead to sore mornings and/or pregnancies and ultimately lower the armys combat readiness? What about those who dont want to be in/have a harem?

Aplurhan wrote:Wouldnt that lead to sore mornings and/or pregnancies and ultimately lower the armys combat readiness? What about those who dont want to be in/have a harem?

Mamano mana. And Unicorn baits don't go into the military.

To be more serious, Mamano mana for sore mornings, lower natural fertility of Mamano and the fact that they just don't do "casual" sex help to offset the latter. Actual segs happening among real couples/throu/fourples is tempered by natural discipline limiting it to "safe days", no one is ignorant of their biology in a proper Mamano society. Monogamists get dragged off to another bed. 4 to a bed is just a common tradition, not a mandate, and more just about unmarried men getting platonically "molested" and tempted rather than sexed. Also men who are married back home STAY home, no way in hell are their wife(s) going to let them run off to play soldier with the Army regulars.

Honestly not sure, but it appears that the boot sector got thoroughly corrupted and the drive gives me the tic-tic-tic-tic-tic of death whenever I try to read it. 12 years eh? I've never had a hard drive last that long. That was my second main drive in this particular PC, and its (oldest components) are about 13 years old. I'd make a back up of the data on that thing if I were you!

I can already see the drill sergeants screaming "WHERE IS YOUR BATTLE-HUBBY?" at recruits and shanking them with a demonic silver knife if they're ever caught alone.

Mass warfare is a bit unusual in this day and age. I last heard of that being a cold war era thing, Europe being afraid of a massed tank assault from the Russians. I assume the Order of Makai has adopted a similar strategy of high mobility, high rate of combat operations, and a concentration of main forces?

Warrior Lodges put me in mind of the Horus Heresy, those were bad news so far as keeping a fighting force uniform. You end up with some pretty oddly sized fighting units with unorthodox tactics between them. It's a pretty romantic idea that creates all sorts of traditions and strong bonds, and the affiliation with chaos over order suits Mamono well. Not the greatest idea for a coordinated fighting force though. Feels like they'd rely very heavily on more disciplined specialist formations to do most of the heavy lifting.

Interesting ideas that you have regarding my Warrior Lodges.

Although to be more specific regarding the battle-hubby's, it is only a requirement for the husbands to be married if they want to serve in combat for a Warrior Lodge; unmarried Mamano can serve in combat just fine, in fact they're usually eager to do so since that's a reliable way to get their paws on a war-trophy-husband.

You're spot-on regarding the Mass Warfare tactics, although the Mass Warfare tactics are more for the Army Regulars and Church Frateris; the Warrior Lodges, Knightly Orders, and Inquisitorial Troopers are much more elite and built around small-unit tactics when they are not operating in sync with the Army or Frateris.

And yes, the Warrior Lodges would be a bad idea for a uniform fighting force, thankfully they are merely only an elites club rather than the linchpin of the main forces. The lodges are generally veteran's associations and martial traditions (the Berserkergangs of the Norse come to mind, as do the Sacred Bands of both Carthage and Thebes), but you could even go as far as to say that they are a type of PMC; or more accurately, a PUBLIC military company given how beholden they are to the Makaian military.
And you are absolutely right regarding possibly oddly sized units, unorthodox tactics, and high specialization, but if you wanted the best Elven markswomen or Amazoness Linebreakers around (or at least, those around that are outside of the Inquisition), then a Warrior Lodge will be your best bet for finding such fighters.

All in all, the Warrior Lodges are meant to be a more Mamano-centric counterpart to the largely Human Knightly Orders. Both are elite, exclusive, and generally function in similar ways. The major difference though is that theoretically anyone can join a Warrior Lodge (imagine a non-aristocratic rich rape-bait petitioning to join one for their service, thinking it will be a cushy yet prestigious position), whereas you are typically born into a Knightly Order unless knighthood is bestowed on you.

I like it, it puts me in mind of what happened to the hagia sofia. I'm trying to imagine what it looks like on the interior and exterior. Dominant colours, architectural style, that sort of thing. EDIT: Also you mention that its "practically the center of organized Kirisutokyō" so, what is the official center?

There is no official center due to Kirisutokyō having a taboo against religious temples and structures, which as you can imagine, tends to make it a lot more "homegrown" rather than heavily centralized. But the "center" is generally wherever the current Pontiff resides, which for now, is the Cathedral of Light.

I'm surprised that the Hagia Sofia was what you thought of, which considering what the original temple complex under the Order of the Chief God was, something that holy/positively religious was the last thing to cross my mind.

I was hoping that the architectural style was obvious, being a Cathedral that is mostly made of glass with thousands of stained glass panes, although if I had to pick a specific architectural style I would say that it is generally Baroque. So there isn't really a general dominant color due to all the colorful glass, although the stone foundations and flooring are white stonework, and the colors that are not from the stained glass would generally be from rugs, carpets, and banners taking their colors from my flag.

I recently went to Frankfurt am Main, splurged for one of those city tours. They are usually good when guided but this was sadly a tape version. Anyhow we come to the banking sector and the tape is like "densest concentration of banks in Krautistan" followed by some trivia. Just after that the tape goes "Frankfurt also has the 2nd largest Jew population in Germany after Berlin". The tape also namedropped the Rothschilds. Intentional or not its refreshing getting some red pills in "normal" places.

They will always take the opportunity to boast, it is a testament to their level of subversion and deception that they are are able to openly declare themselves in such a way so as to rub it in our faces. If they had complete control, you can bet that they would make vulgar and blasphemous monuments brazenly extolling their crimes.

This week on "Believe it or Not: The Order of Makai Edition"!

As it is with most other Mamano societies, the Order of Makai boasts a thriving restaurant and culinary sector; not only to satiate the universal love for romantic dining among Mamano, but also to appeal to vacationing tourists.
One of the most successful restaurants within Makaian lands is the franchise "Denise's Breakfast & Brunch Dining and Delivery", colloquially known as Denise's. Founded by an enterprising Greenworm name Denise, Denise's advertises themselves as being the perfect morning-after dining experience for the commoners, and to that end also offers the option of home delivery "for those couples who really went all out the previous night".

Denise's is a popular locale for first dates and "friendly" breakfast dates as well. But unlike most other casual restaurants, Denise's booths and tables are set-up with "privacy curtains" beneath the tables. These curtains hide the lower bodies of the occupants of the table, a fact that Mamano are keen and eager to exploit. In addition, the chairs and booths of Denise's either recline much further back than they normally do, or are otherwise adjustable.
Mamano are typically surreptitious with this rather public form of affection, and indeed the vast majority of Mamano who exploit this opportunity keep their upper bodies visible and seated above the curtains, instead using their legs and feet to indulge in this mischief.
This practice is virtually a cultural tradition with the Order of Makai, as it is almost customary to treat men who are sad, depressed, or otherwise hopeless to breakfast and some "under the table" action at Denise's. So-called "Nihilistic" men; invariably foreign tourists; are especially targeted for this tradition, who often report afterwards "I want to live!!".

It was only after I had decided on the name of Denise's that I looked up the original meme and found out that the restaurant in question was actually Applebee's rather than Denny's, however, I think this works better considering Denny's has a more "demented" reputation and is basically the same as Applebee's anyway, and also I couldn't think of a Mamano-variation of Applebee's.
