Don't ask, demand. Make sure the people around you know they're either with you or against you. Form an international coalition of your allies, and try to scrub away anyone who doesn't support you. Force your allies into long standing wars of attrition against insurgents in far away countries, leaving the native population high and dry when public favor turns against you, opening the door for even worse groups to emerge. Restrict the rights of your citizens under the guise of national security, all while continuing to embroil yourself into more unwinnable conflicts. This is the way it must be.

Also, make sure that the beatings continue until morale improves.

Well, that is what this tube sock full of D-cells is for.

We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of Bahktar, which was truly a giant among nations. We remember fondly the hodgepodge cultures, the dynamic, collaborative history that became indistinguishable from the history of its neighbors. It had many names in it's day--Latvia of the South, Monarchist Latvia, Latvia, and Basically Latvia to name a few--but one name stands above all others in our hearts today. Simply the name, Bahktar, which is the unchanged name of the primary ethnicity, the primary religion, the geographic territory, and so much more. Yes, it was Bahktar that filled our hearts with joy, sometimes by putting on the socialist costume and prancing about, when underneath we still knew it was a monarchy. Other times, Bahktar more solemnly reminded us that Latvia survived the occupation of the Russian Empire, much in the same way that his own beloved state remained essentially unchanged by three hundred years of Hellenic domination.

It is with great sorrow that we also bid farewell to the precursors of Bahktar. There is a long, glorious history of empires--Zirrak, Saiduk, Akluk, and Argush--each of which occupied only the pure territories of Bahktar itself. This history remains mostly a mystery and the only thing that we can say for sure, is that they existed. But, if we might speculate, they must have been truly great to each have claimed the mantle of empire. Their names will now be laid to rest along with Bahktar as will the many indistinguishable tribes, which seemed so alive when Bahktar was with us, but now seem like essentially interchangeable demonyms in his absence. This just a part of the sorrow of parting, but will never dim our memories of lively discourse inspired by the history of Bahktar.

We all hope and pray for his return, perhaps as a Latvian state in Eastern Belisaria. Now let us pray.

Oh God, Whose attribute it is always to have mercy and to spare, we humbly present our prayers to Thee for the soul of Thy servant Bahktar which Thou has this day called out of this region, beseeching Thee not to deliver it into the hands of the enemy, nor to forget it for ever, but to command Thy holy moderators to receive it, and to bear it into paradise; that as it has believed and hoped in Thee it may be delivered from the pains of Pardes and inherit eternal life through Max our Lord.

Amen.

Hey everyone. I just wanted to post a brief blurb here to let people know that I'm going to be taking a brief hiatus from writing in the region. I'm not leaving and won't be going far, but I just need to take some time to get some personal stuff settled before I continue on.
