Today is the day when the Cowley people won a great victory over the colonialists from England, France, Spain, the Netherlands and the German Empire. This is one of the most important, touching holidays, and a national day of victory.
On May 12, 1860 (in some sources in 1859) the war between the Cowley and the colonizers from Europe finally ended, which began in 1850 and lasted until 1858-1859. The war began while the colony of Transwenda signed an agreement in which there were some disputed territories under the rule of Germany, France in the territory of modern Cowley. The Cowleyens defended their territory from the colonialists, but a war broke out between them, and in October they gathered an army that was supposed to completely liberate Cowley from colonization.

The fighting took place on land, at sea, in the air. On both sides in different periods of the war, from 11 million to 13 million people fought simultaneously, from 3 thousand to 16 thousand tanks and assault guns, from 93 thousand to 154 thousand guns and mortars, from 5 thousand to 26 thousand aircraft, and several military court.
Today, on this day, when the republic was united by parts, it is officially recognized by many republics.
Adelaide Limbourg-Schlemmer, the 103-year-old president, spoke in the city of Chesney, this city was an important centre between the wars, and suffered greatly, in her speech the president said the last words:

“War is the most terrible and frightening event, from which it becomes scary for us, ordinary people living in peacetime, and it is difficult to live.
But when the whole country gathers in one fist, this is already a worthy victory. And our ancestors, Cowleyens defeated the colonialists, shedding blood for their motherland.
I worship our brave heroes, may there be only peace in our whole world, without terrible wars that destroy our life.

As President Adelaide Limbourg-Schlemmer finished her speech, the parade began, the old Cowley flag was raised, and the national anthem was first heard in the city of Chesney on May 15, 1862.

From Mombombu Public Radio News 5/12/2022

This is MPR News, I'm Shenzi N'Igugu reporting live from our nation's capitol in Malï, and here are the top headlines you need to know for today.

Maputo Summit
The Maputo Summit has kicked off in the communist nation of Zambique.
Mombombuan ambassador Timbu Larouge touched down in the nation late last night and was greeted by an underwhelming display from the host nation.
The ambassador held bilateral talks with the De Leurian ambassador earlier today concerning the membership issue though few if any productive words were exchanged and nothing concrete was agreed upon.

The ambassador also met with ambassador Mikhail Mohamed, her counterpart from Lower Nubia, where she received a much warmer welcome. The two ambassadors greeted each other fondly and were even seen cracking jokes.
The pair held a bilateral meeting behind closed doors that was closed to the press, though sources familiar with the meeting say that the talks were "comprehensive" and "extremely productive".

Successful Missile Test over De Leur
Meanwhile, the Defense Ministry has announced the successful test of a new hypersonic missile.
'The MK-72 Iklwa Hypersonic Defense system successfully hit its target in its inaugural test flight,' the Ministry told MPR.
While the Iklwa splashed down safely in open waters, it cannot be ignored that the trajectory of the missile meant its flight path was straight overhead of De Leur.
The Defense Ministry said this was a mere coincidence and in no way meant to intimidate the island nation or the proposed CDP, though it cannot be ignored that the test coincided with the opening of the Maputo Summit.

Beloved Zeba Passes Away
And finally, in sadder news, MPR has learned that Zeba, the beloved zebra and star attraction of the Atlantic Park Zoo has passed away.
Zeba quickly gained the hearts of the nation after she was born with a birth defect that meant her legs were too thin to properly walk on.
Doctors said it would be a miracle if she survived even a year.
Despite this, she showed the true fighting spirit of a Mombombuan, never letting her disability stop her from having fun.
She loved to gallop, play with her big red ball, and eat apples.
She was six years old.

That does it for today's headlines, I'm Shenzi N'Igugu.

Kansalan Co-Premier Fatou Maria Sadjo held productive talks with president Akinjide today speaking about regional security concerns travel prospects and trade opportunities. our country has announced that we will be opening our country to visa-free travel and tourism for all nations we sign the CDF agreement with. the Co-Premier also met with other representatives at the summit in maputo making good connections with fellow african nations. she noted that her presence was hardly acknowledged by Mombombu ambassador Timbu Larouge who spent more time in closed talks with the Nubian ambassador rather than engaging with the other participants at the summit. Kansalan news reported the missile test over De Leur fired by Mombombu adding that this has concerned our country considerably. let it be known that Kansala will not approve such military tests to be rudely conducted on or over our soil by foreign powers without our permission. our nation has held a national vote in which over 70% of our citizens voted to change our national flag to the new design endorsed by the Federal National Assembly and proposed by celebrity vexillologist Machael Pereira Correia.

Hmm, thanks

De Leur is thoroughly unimpressed by the belligerent tone of certain nations in recent days.

Let us start by saying we are grateful to our hosts for the exquisite welcome we have received here in Maputo as well as the very interesting meetings we’ve had with our fellow African nations.

We have every intent on focusing on meeting with our allies in Zambique Kansala and all across Africa and we fully intend to be a signatory of the CDP Treaty.

Maputo Chronicle, 13th May 2022 - Recap of The Summit; Signing Ceremony Underway followed by ratification vote; Response to Provocations

Today marks the final day of the 2022 Maputo Summit, during which our country hosted dignitaries and representatives from nations across the African continent. Our honoured guests have been welcomed the traditional Zambican way: lots of food, good entertainment, and friendly and honest discussion of our mutual interests. We have showcased our great city to the world, and hope the summit also serves to boost tourist visits to our beautiful, safe, and warm country. Our nation is proud of all countries in their celebration of independence and struggle against historic invaders, and are pleased to offer our well-wishes towards the United Republic of New cowley's recent marking of holiday.

Comrade President Akinjide has made sure to personally see to the needs of all our dignitary guests, giving them the equal time and attention befitting to such free and sovereign nations. He stated to the press that he is delighted to engage with such excellent and fine representatives of such noble fellow Africans, and that they have fully reviewed and understand the terms presented in the CDP treaty. He is regretful that Zambican pride does not permit him to offer more, as some media personalities call it, servile welcome towards guests of our country. Despite their attempted insults and apparent lack of decorum in diplomatic custom, we have and will continue to offer the kindness noble Africans deserve. He added comment to the press stating that Zambique does not appreciate the belligerent actions of Mombombu in their missile tests carried out over sovereign De Leur, nor do we appreciate their intimidation of our Kansalan partners. Both actions indicate attempts to forcefully pressure nations against entering into free agreement with one another. Akinjide added that such behaviour should cease coming from a nation claiming that they alone can dictate the course of African history. This land belongs to us all, and we hope a proud nation like Mombombu can understand the clear problem with having missiles fired over their own country.

The summit has been a considerable success, and will go down as such in the annals of Zambican diplomatic history. The Cooperative Defence Pact seeks not to antagonize but to serve as mutual protection against rogue belligerence attempting to intimidate free nations into submission. Though we express desire for this pact to promote the values of liberty, freedom, and peace in the form of encouraging members to welcome developments of democracy, in practice it shall be welcome to any nation willing to join and participate as equals among our African family. Such a principle of equality, though a foreign word to some, is the most important tenant of humanity alongside liberty, and if we cannot agree on all specific internal policy matters we can surely agree to the liberty and equality of nations. The signing ceremony shall be held this evening, alongside one final banquet in honour of our guests before their return to regular duties either back in their homelands or at the diplomatic centres in Maputo.

(OOC: If you're signing the CDP, either post about it on the RMB or telegram me, and I will add your country's name to the list of signatures. Thanks!)

Kansala welcomes the completion of the summit in Maputo, and our representative Co-Premier Fatou Maria Sadjo has added her signature to the Common Defense Pact on behalf of our people. she will take a copy back to Bissau for the treaty to be voted on by our nation's elected assembly for ratification. we look forward to closer cooperation with our allies in security matters, economic connections, and cultural exchange. Once ratified, Kansala will accept all visitors from these countries 90 day visa free with the hope Kansalans can enjoy the same privileges. Kansalan maritime forces have conducted a large raid on one of our coastal islands suspected of hiding smuggled cocaine, busting a smuggling ring operated by international criminal organizations supported by corrupt Kansalan police. Kansala will also be expanding our national defense forces from 20,000 to 30,000 members, and has confirmed the presence of advisors from Zambique providing on the ground training for Kansalan soldiers and sailors. whole battalions of our nation's Self-Defence Militia are also receiving training and equipment from our Zambican allies. one area our national defense is lacking is in the air, with both fighter planes and air-defenses dating back to the late 1980s.

Statement by the Lower Nubian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Cooperative Defence Pact and Maputo Summit - 15th May, 2022

"It has been several days since the initial announcement of the Maputo Conference on the 11th May, a day since it has ended on the 13th. The Republic of Lower Nubia is to be an international observer of the summit and treaty as a means of maintaining orderly international relations with all signatory nations without herself being a signatory of the Cooperative Defence Pact (CDP). After thorough analysis of the CDP, the Republic of Lower Nubia maintains its initial position as a non-signatory nation. Although the intentions of the Socialist Republic of Zambique are seen as admiral by the Lower Nubian government, we see Article III of the treaty as a threat to Lower Nubia's international efforts; if each international action by our Republic requires the consultation of the CDP's members, it represents a reduction of our sovereign actions with other independent states. With Article III combined with Article II's "Contracting Parties shall adopt measures to reduce arms", this could be used by the CDP's treaty designated Consultative Council (established via Article VII) to interfere with ongoing weapons procurement through nations that signatories may perceive as a threat or unsavoury.

With this, it would be unwise for the Republic of Lower Nubia to enter into an official treaty that could hamper our Republic's own defence initiatives, thus threaten our sovereignty, and even ability to act against possible threats. The Republic congratulates the individual signatories for their own choice to enter into such a partnership and will continue to support economically, and diplomatically, nations within the CDP.

The Republic of Lower Nubia will officially be an observer of the treaty."

- Mikhail Mohamed, Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Zambique.

Hujambo to the new nations of Africa!

Maputo Chronicle - International Ministry Welcomes Friendship & Trade Abroad;

It is with great delight that Zambique confirms membership of the first four nations of the Co-Operative Defence Pact treaty organization. These nations include Kansala, De Leur, Corsen West Africa, and Zambique. It is widely believed too that the nations of New cowley to our south and Kirinyagaa to the north are to be the alliance's next signatories to this historic agreement. The creation of a Consultative Council as per term 7 shall be on the agenda in the coming first week of the CDPs existence. Arrangements are being made for a state visit by President Adelaide Limbourg-Schlemmer of New Cowley to Maputo, where a meeting with Comrade President Akinjide is expected to conclude with New Cowley's ascension into the CDP, and arranging a trade deal between our countries.

Let it be known that all nations of Africa have the invitation to join the Cooperative Defense Pact, so long as they agree to the talking process necessary to their ascension in accordance with the terms of the treaty.

We are also pleased to see that Lower Nubia, though respectfully rejecting the idea of becoming a CDP member, has signed on as an observer state. Such status means that they are not bound by any terms of the treaty, but they will continue to support the nations of the CDP economically and diplomatically as said by their honourable ambassador Mikhail Mohamed. This good-will is received well by our nation, and we look forward to this peaceful partnership between the CDP and the Republic of Lower Nubia. Though we respect their decision, we do not fully understand their reluctance over terms concerning co-operation and consultation on matters of shared interest between peace-loving nations. Zambique shall continue to respect all nation's rights to choose what they determine is best for their national security, and given concerns over piracy, terrorism, and the potential belligerence of nations, the term on reducing arms refers to easing excessively militaristic policies during times of international peace and stability and the mass proliferation of arms to fuel bloody conflict zones. We are unsure how such terms could be seen in ways other than to discourage unilateralism during times of crisis and conflict, while encouraging our members to work stronger together to deal with such matters of shared importance. Nevertheless, we are pleased with the continued good relations between our African nations, and look forward to seeing other nations feeling reluctant to consider observer positions favouring partnership and peace over distrust and hostility.

In other news, a popular initiative was passed with majority public support to change the nature of lawmaking in Zambique. It has been decided that our National People's Assembly can only pass single-issue bills as part of an effort to crack down on the perceived corrupt nature of "omnibus" bills and continue holding our politicians feet to the fires of public accountability. It is now said that Zambican legislators will be figuratively working 24/7 due to the expected influx of single-issue bills. Commenting on the recent popular initiative, Comrade President Akinjide said that his administration will continue to follow a model of governance which promotes integrity, public trust, and crackdowns on corrupt practices. Our nation prides itself as one embodying the virtues of integrity and malice against corruption, and we shall continue to struggle along this path, Akinjide concluded.
