CORPUS JURIS ABYDI
LEGAL LIBRARY

The Corpus Juris Abydi is the legal library for the region of Abydos and represents the sum of laws ratified in the region. Every law is listed in chronological order to provide a complete historical account of the happenings in Abydos. Abydos has two forms of legislation, the law and the decree. A law is a piece of legislation which has been voted upon favorably by a majority of the Scribes in the Conclave, and has been ratified by the signature of the High Priest. A decree is a piece of legislation signed by the Grand Luxarch and is used to execute the law and carry out commands within the jurisdiction allowed.

All laws and decrees in Abydos have the same general format, or template. This template is as follows:

        NAME OF LAW
Proposed Date: [Date at which law was first proposed, Automatically triggers voting.]
Ratification Date: [date at which High Priest Signs]
Dynastic Date: [The Dynasty Abydos is currently in]
Votes in Favor: [Names of Scribes who voted for]
Votes Against: [Names of Scribes who voted against]
Signature: [The Name of the High Priest, if they approve]

WE SHALL [Text of Section 1]
WE SHALL [Text of Section 2]
WE SHALL NOT [Text of Section 3]

Any Scribe may propose a law, thought it is encouraged that they have the law reviewed privately through telegram or on our Discord server in advance of posting it for vote. Once a proposal reaches the Regional Message Board, it is automatically triggered for vote, and any and all Scribes should vote on it. Voting lasts for 24 hours or until all scribes have voted, whichever shorter. Once 24 hours has lapsed, the proposal will either have passed or failed. If the proposal passes, the High Priest may sign the proposal to officially ratify it. If the proposal ties in the conclave, the High Priest may break the tie with their vote either for or against and sign.

13 Abydos Axioms

1. Abydos is eternally your birthright.
2. Learn, so that you can also teach.
3. Arise to defend Abydos at all costs.
4. Do not be a cancer unto Abydos.
5. Honor is more valued than might.
6. Uphold the laws, practice the traditions.
7. Remember those who came before you.
8. Praise the name of the Grand Luxarch.
9. Raise yourself to a noble position.
10. Lead when you are called to do so.
11. Always rule justly under these Axioms.
12. Encourage stability, but respect change.
13. Avoid petty laws and treasonous nations.

The Thirteen Abydos Axioms are one of the oldest surviving documents from this region and a hallmark of our Modern Age. Despite their authorship being very old these words of wisdom, upon which our ancestors built Abydos ring true today. Please memorise them, internalize them and live through them. These words are the source of the power that is Abydos.

There are some missing. The criminal code in particular.

A Brief History of the High Priest

On May 5, 2018, our first Grand Luxarch, Zyris proposed A temporary constitution, a precursor to our Eye of Abydos. In this constitution was a position calling for an Abydos President. Elections for the first ever President was then set for May 30th 2018. It would be much later that the term President would be changed to High Priest.

First Election
The first election for President had three initial candidates, Requiemis, South midgit borderlands and Ancient Greek Kingdoms. With political maneuvering, Requiemis would move on to win the presidency without election as the other two candidates took other positions on the Conclave.

Second Election
Requiemis would win a second term in September 2018. By the end of his term, Requiemis witnessed and oversaw a growing roleplay region, the ratification of the Eye of Abydos, 3 Grand Luxarchs, and a sharp rise in hyper partisanism. There was also major inter-regional summits and a change in title from President to High Priest. Requiemis made clear his intent to not run for a third term in the January 10th 2019 Elections.

Third Election
The third election focused on the candidates Aremania and Zartavaria with Zartavaria winning the election in a landslide. During this time, Abydos witnessed a grand expansion in population and in player participation with bipartisan and hyperpartisan politics ruling the day. This term would be cut short after Zartavaria resigned as High Priest and was self appointed Grand Luxarch after a series of mass resignations on mid-February 2019.

Fourth Election
The nation Eviena became our third High Priest filling the vacancy of the office. A small election was conducted because as Illuminatiea was the only other candidate, thus assumed the position unopposed. During this time, Abydos would see a sharp decline in politics, a barely functioning Conclave, and the region seeking to restore activity.

Fifth Election
April 10, 2019 passed with no election being conducted at all for the first time in Abydos history. Abydos would be without a High Priest until Grand Luxarch Zartavaria resigned his office and assumed the position unopposed in May 2019.

What is Striking

What is striking about Abydos is that this region has persevered through many different obstacles March through May were some of the darkest times in Abydos History and yet, even when things were at its grimmest point, Abydos Survived. One of the heroes of the ressurection of Abydos was High Priest Zartavaria, who recognized the grave problem in the region, acted and kept thr lineage of the Grand Luxarch going when it was destined to die a cold death. One could argue that he single-handedly saved the Grand Traditions that is Abydos from certain destruction. When he knew Abydos was backed away from the proverbial cliff in which it was destined, he too backed off and returned to his term as High Priest.

These days, Abydos is rising once again, building anew rather than being in a state of damage control. New nations are filling in the positions necessary for government while older nations chart a new course for the region. Abydos has had its share of dynamic politics and the office of the High Priest deserves our respect for its essential role in keeping Abydos alive.

Qon wrote:Removal of Delinquent Nations

Sadly, we have three nations in very important office who have had prolonged absences, neglectful terms, or extreme apathy toward our region. I believe it is better to have a vacancy in office than a nation who does not care, or does not have the spirit to uphold the office and fulfill its duties.

High Oracle Requiemis, Oracle The Realm of Sehkmet, and Selected Scribe Denellin are three nations who have been absent for ten days or longer, who have done little or nothing to carry out the law of the land and fulfill their sacred duties, and who have, through their neglect, let the guild and the conclave collapse onto itself in a heap of rubble. This chain of abuse ends here and now.

With these words, these three officers are dismissed from duty. They may retain their citizenship, they may seek office in the future. It is asked that each nation here seriously consider the offices in which they hold and take pride in them. It is also asked that those with the powers to select or appoint truly consider who it is you appoint and select only the meritous and best.

Sadly, at this moment, The Abydos Government is all but non existant. Out of 110 nations, just three nations hold office. These three now have the monumental task of rebuilding this region and seeing to it that tje glory that is Abydos, the hopes of our ancestors are fulfilled now and in the future.

The Fist of Con continues. Our Revolution continues. Stand by for another Writ of Revision tomorrow.

Citizens, you need to be considering your plan to rise to power now. You need to be thinking about where you are, and where you hope to be. This Revolution will be swift, and when it is over, the games shall begin. Your duty is to this ancient region, which is was first founded in 2003. Do not let your ancestors down. Service to Society is the highest honor.

I apologize for my inactivity and low ambition thus far, I have simply gotten burned out of NS and struggle to stay motivated enough just to keep my puppets alive. However, because I handed The Interdimensional Community over to Pingu Armada, it is possible that I might have time to try again here and do it right sometime. With that said, if I didnít have time before, I will have even less when I go to college. I am always available on Discord if needed. Although...maybe...I could write some lore?

Possibly try and get the Roleplay guild functioning would actually attract people. We could try and discuss that if we want to get serious about it. Considering that I have a lot of things to do and prepare for, I may need to be contacted over Discord initially for it, but we could move the conversation to NS if you wish.

Hi folks. Sorry for being off for a few days. Work has been insane lately, but that's what I get for working Host at a sports bar in the middle of the summer.

Wasn't that like a big issue before though? From the histories I've read about the region, it seems like party discords are a bit frowned upon.

Restoration of the Defense Guild
July 30, 2019

For some time now the Defense Guild of Abydos has been temporarily shuttered due to low demand, a state of emergency and the Fist of Qon Revolution in which we are all participating in. Today, I would like to decree that the Defense Guild shall reopen, and I shall appoint Eastern Ashanti as Chief General over the Guild.

Grand Luxarch Qon

Congrats Eastern Ashanti on your appointment!

Eastern Ashanti wrote:Wasn't that like a big issue before though? From the histories I've read about the region, it seems like party discords are a bit frowned upon.

Legally speaking, individual parties can operate discord channels. It is something that really can not be prevented. That being said, a party in which operates one, particularly in secret can be a recipe for disaster of that party. First, it breeds distrust. Second, it opens the door to opposing parties spying on eachother, covert intelligence operations, and negative press. All of thos can be done becaise when you take the game off the game and onto another platform, the rules of the game no longer apply.

Abydos is designed to exploit the activity generated by shifts of power and to make those shifts easier to perform by the player. The reason privatized discord servers lead to the February disaster isnt because the parties had private discords, but because the people couldnt handle or tolerate change. Winning an election or office tells nothing about a persons character, seeing them react when they lose tells everything. It so happens that tje last party to isolate themselves off on a private discord could not handle rising pressure and opposition from the outside. Rather than rise up and amend themselves, they chose to cut and run in utter defeat.

So having a private discord to run your political party is perfectly okay. Locking yourself away in an echo chamber is completely legal, and so is taking this game off the game. Just kbow that the Eye of Abydos really cant protect you or afford you the same rights as it is not written for Discord, but for NationStates. Likewise, the NationStates rules can not help you either at that point. The tradeoff to discord is that you gain the ability to greatly enhance your parties ideology and communicate much easier, the risk is that you lose the very protections you need to insure the game is played on an even level to all. So when you do lose a round, you are stuck in a retreated state because what was once your safe place, has now become your prison cell. Use discord at your own risk.
