History stuff. Hummingbird Mk.I: First Anterian combat VTOL in Active service.

Introduction: 1969

Service length: 1969 (As the Mk.I) - Present (As the Mk.6B)

Summary: The Hassara Aircraft works Hummingbird is a series of VTOL Multirole fighters that served in the Marlenkan Royal Air Force, and consequently exported to other nations. Built for the Marlenkan doctrine of having airbases in “Undesirable” locations (F-1/Sauya Airport in Mau-Sauya have concrete extentions, F-4 is in a narrow valley, etc) The Hummingbird was desighned not to need a runway to operate, using its Nani-690 engine to “float” up into the air and fly away.

First used during the St. Heilja troubles, RAMAF Hummingbirds operated from Barges towed by cargo ships, and using bombs and rockets, destroyed the enemy combatant with relative ease. This earned its reputations in the military world, promoting other nations to reverse engineer the plane. It was also liked by its pilots for its robustness and Carrying capacity.

Though it was not without issues, the aircraft took special training to fly, and there were many accidents due to uneducated pilots thinking they were in an ace combat game and crashing only to die. The Nani-690 was also in the words of one of the mechanics: “Harder to maintain than my ex-wife.”

However, pilots praised the plane for its Autopilot system, which would keep the plane level while the pilot watched anime by using the circular map screen in flight (Note: Map screen was not meant for this). And its relatively comfortable seating ensured comfort for long Combat/Anime Binge sessions.

Since it was not made as a fighter from the ground up, the Mark I could not carry missiles, but this was fixed using the proven and effective method of duct-tape-it-anyways.
Though it was no [Insert Really good fighter from Anteria], or [Insert Really good Ground attacker from Anteria], it proved that VTOL fighters were not a stupid concept, and it spawned many other aircraft, such as: [Insert Other VTOL aircraft in Anteria].

This aircraft was featured in many Marlenkan Animes.
