Open to the World, Part 2 (Initiation of Trade with Wellsenfaile)

‘ILDSPYD - The Labour-led Foreneting passed a bill this morning approving a renewed trade agreement with the Empire of Wellsenfaile. In a vote which was split along coalition lines, the agreement has lowered tariffs and non-tariff barriers to commerce between Gratiskov and the Astariaxian nation. King Magnus VI is expected to grant royal assent within the next two days, making this the latest in a series of initiatives by Prime Minister Mogens Øster’s Labour Party to deepen Gratish economic ties abroad.

One commenter from the Conservative Party criticized this measure as “another incremental attack on our own working men and women”, citing concerns issued by the Gratish Commerce Institute, a right-wing research NGO, that Gratish fisheries would be unable to compete under the tariff cut.

The Communist Party of Gratiskov released a letter earlier this week characterizing the Socialist and Labour parties as “the left wing of the Liberals”, drawing attention to what they criticize as excessive trade liberalization in recent years.

The agreement is set to enter into effect in July of 2021.’
