RP: Regarding the Old Regime

Nearly two years after the end of Schwypia's Civil War, the former President and de jure leader of the Nationalists, Kenneth Argus, was at last put on trial by the new government. Many say that the former President was held in jail without trial or bail for far too long, and though a non-lethal purge eliminated most Nationalists from Parliament, civilian protests led the new government to at last hold this trial. In Argus v. Schwypia, the former President was found guilty of election fraud in the form of receiving aid from a foreign power. Though Argus was not running for President at the time, Argus pled guilty that he knew about the Nationalist Party's connection to Blayredeshia, of which President Argus was the party leader. As for his sentence, it was deemed fair that Argus would not be sent to prison, as after General Hunt assumed total control, Argus served as a puppet, much like his predecessor. He had not orchestrated the war and was found to have not played a role in it except for propaganda efforts. Instead, the 62 year old former President will be placed on house arrest, allowed to live out the rest of his days in his residence as a citizen, though unable to speak with any news outlets or outsiders besides his family and his guards.

At the same time, Argus' predecessor, former President Edwin Hoffman, was too called to court. Due to having revealed General Hunt's intentions and crimes, and for his efforts in aiding the Republican faction in the civil war, Hoffman was found not guilty of any crimes during the election, as he was unaware of their happenings. For his efforts, Hoffman will be recognized as a hero of the nation, speaking out against overwhelming injustice that would silence him in the nation's most desperate moment. It was also revealed that Edwin Hoffman was Zeta, a previously anonymous individual who broadcasted information to Queen Boran just before the war, saving her life in the process. For his further exploits, he earned an audience with the Queen and was given a spot on in the Ministry as the Minister of Education, a spot which had just become vacant and for which Hoffman was qualified due to his history as an esteemed professor. It was also deemed that Hoffman would be eligible to run for Prime Minister in the future. He rejoined his old party, the Conservative Party, upon rejoining the government. The Conservative Party put their former President on a golden pedestal, assigning him as the head of the Party, thus making him the Leader of the Opposition.
