President Mandrake made an announcement following this macabre attack on a symbol of the nation:
"Once again, our nation is being attacked in a sneaky, cowardly manner. A symbol of our unity was targeted today and I offer my condolences to the families of the victims.
It goes without saying that the safety of my fellow citizens is my top priority and I will do everything in my power to put an end to this cycle of senseless violence that seems to be taking hold in our nation. I speak directly to you through the symbol that was targeted. My voice resonates with you, my fellow citizens, thanks to our brave patriots at CTRB News who allow me to speak to you despite the damage to the main tower. I assure you that this attack, like the one perpetrated on our embassies recently, will not go unpunished.
Operation Unidad is already under way and I am closing the borders between La Plata and the Platinan, Brazilian and independent Paraguays. This region will be sealed off and separated from our sacred hinterland. I also declare increased surveillance in our cities and the Brigada Justicialista and Mandrakist Youth will all be deployed. I invite our patriotic people to join their ranks to secure our lands from infamy. I keep Martial Law at my disposal in case the situation deteriorates. In this election year, I may ask for extraordinary powers should the crisis escalate.
However, in order to face this new hidden enemy, I am providing more funds and manpower to the Secretaría de Inteligencia de Estado (SIDE), our national intelligence center, to better find the rats that dare to hide among us. Moreover, I declare that the Brigada Justicialista and the Mandrakist Youths will extend their mandate of Operation Unidad to the entire territory of La Plata. This cooperation between the national intelligence and the paramilitary forces will allow our intelligence agency to become more proactive against internal threats, but also against external threats and interference.
Do not worry, my fellow citizens, our beloved La Plata will survive this crisis, as always.
