First Minister of the Gyeongsang Province Ousted by Electors in Brutal Election Campaign

First Minister Kang Young Jae of the New Korea party has been ousted from power in Gyeongsang after regional elections where called early after a lose of no confidence in the regional assembly. Kang was forced out of office by the opposition after his coalition partner, Rhee Sang Min of the United Liberal Democrats was charged with corruption following revealations about 'cash for questions' in which Rhee and two other assembly members would receive money for asking particular questions in meetings, in sittings, and directly to the First Minister. It usually involved questions regarding business policy or environmental standards enforcement.

The New Korea party suffered devastating drubbing at the elections losing 16 of it's 37 seats leaving it in second position behind the Party of Hope who now take first position on 32 seats an increase of 5. The United Liberal Democrats lost all of their seats after dropping below the 5% electoral threshold, in reverse the 'Free List' won 14 of the 79 seats in the assembly capturing roughly 16% of the vote. The Free List is made up of independent candidates who range from centre-left to centre-right but choose not to take the whip of any particular party, joining them as new entrants is the relatively new Green Party who won 7% of the vote and 6 seats.

        Party of Hope: 36.38% (+6.67%), 32 seats (+5)
        New Korea Party: 24.28% (-15.56%), 21 seats (-16)
        Free List: 16.93% (+16.93%), 14 seats (+14)
        Democratic Labor: 7.84% (+2.69%), 6 seats (+2)
        Greens: 7.09% (+7.09%), 6 seats (+6)
        United Liberals: 4.48% (-6.83), 0 seats (-11)

Following the election results Kang resigned as leader of the New Korea Party in Gyeongsang and from the Assembly, the next person on the list taking his place. A rainbow coalition between the Party of Hope, Democratic Labour and Greens seems the most likely outcome, with the numbers not adding up to the needed 40 seats for a right-leaning government, falling five short.
