THE SECOND RETRIBUTION
10 January 1991 - Asmara, Hamasien, East African Federation

No one can have known that the political violence and repression that the nation had endured from 1973 until 1977 would ever occur again in the fashion and severity it has been for the previous months. While the violence would not be on the same scale, the lasting political repercussions can already be felt.

The Arbegnoch Division's failed coup, under the code name Operation Vanguard, resulted in the almost overnight destruction of the credibility of the Arbegnoch Division and, by the end of 1990, the entire paramilitary force had either been merged into the federal standing army or purged entirely on orders of President Dinka, healing in a hospital bed in Addis Abeba. In his absence, Supreme Commander Andom had effectively run the nation for a two month period and secretly led the charge of the East African Defense Force in liquidating the Arbegnoch Division and killing or arresting its members who refused to comply and join their ranks. All in all some 8,000 Arbegnoch Division members had been killed, some 11,000 arrested, with the rest either being pardoned or joining the East African Defense Forces. With the Arbegnoch Division completely obliterated in a matter of months, the African Liberation Council has been left almost completely defanged with its leadership exposed and in the open. All of East Africa knows in their hearts who is truly responsible at the top for the assassination attempt.

Dinka, after leaving the hospital in early December, returned to normal functions in Addis Abeba and since has overseen both foreign and domestic affairs as well as the crackdown on the African Liberation Council. Long opposed to the traditional party lines and the party's leaders, he and his entire cabinet announced a mass exodus from the party upon his return to power, resigning from their posts and officially registering as independents. With the writing on the wall, YANAMBE leadership had tried to make an escape from the nation into hiding but had been found attempting to illegally cross the border from Hamasien into Sudan, were captured, and have been detained through the new year. Dinka has refused to acknowledge them until 10 January. The morning sun hangs bright over Asmara's skyline as the order comes through from Addis Abeba- execute the prisoners. Leave none alive. With haste, the East African Defense Forces soldiers follow the order.

One by one, party leaders such as Party Chairman Khadar Guuled al-Khalil, House Majority Representative Midhaaydu Hawwi, Arbegnoch Division Commander Berhe Haya and others are dragged out of their cells and onto an Italian-era public square in the middle of the city. Thousands of locals gather to watch as one by one the soldiers line up in front of the disgraced politicians and execute them systematically with bursts of fire from their CETME Model 58 rifles. The bodies, instead of being discarded properly, are simply stacked up where they fall as new victims are pulled out. The crowd chants and cheers in a frenzy as they fall dead until the last of the 28 party leaders and associates are killed at which point the bodies are hauled away on a truck and driven through the city to a crematorium, wherein the bodies are burned and their ashes buried in an undisclosed location outside of the city.

As the executions happen, the East African Ground Forces work on securing all of the Party's regional headquarters, both public and private. In some areas, large office buildings are searched and in others hidden underground networks scouted and torched. Years upon years of documents and information are gathered, compiled, and prepared to be taken back to the capital for inspection. Hundreds of buildings and complexes are searched while thousands of weapons are found alongside the sensitive documents. With the leadership gone and its physical network destroyed, YANAMBE has effectively in one day been completely destroyed and with it, over 30 years of One Party Rule. The entirety of Dinka's administration follow the day from the Presidential Lounge, understanding that with the African Liberation Council gone they have sacrificed their chances of remaining in their positions after 1991 in exchange for the end of the corruption. It is a sacrifice Dinka and Andom are both willing to live with.

Speaking to the nation from the Presidential Lounge after dusk, President Dinka announces the collapse of the African Liberation Council due to the indictment and execution of the majority of its leaders, all listed, for treason and intent to commit treason. While YANAMBE still exists and exists as the largest Party in the East African Federation, Dinka states that the Party will be dissolved under anti-treason and national security clauses in the 1977 Constitution. The address finishes with Dinka stating that the Federation shall no longer be forced to suffer under the same regime and figureheads who oversaw the Retribution and the massacres and oppression it entailed and that a new and brighter day will shine upon East Africa with YANAMBE's oppressive grasp on the nation ended.
