Honestly, I grow opined that any such RP should be taken onto the forums, and we should use the RMB to greet newcomers, answer questions, and perhaps most importantly, shoot the breeze.
Speaking of greeting newcomers, hi to all who've recently joined, feel free to ask me questions about stuff either here or via TG, and I encourage any of you who haven't registered on the forums or joined the Discord to do one or both of those things.

I don't like the forums. It has a 90s forum vibe to it that I don't like.

Anyway I'm going to be introducing a new law enforcement agency to Allouxia's criminal justice system. The Judges. (Inspired by Dredd) much like how in the movie a single law enforcement officer has power to arrest and sentence on the spot.

So what kind of RP we talking about future modern present past?

You know I'm down for something like game of thrones type settings.

I mean the physics are simple. In modern RP if I were to declare war and send an army to let's say Allouxia for example, it would be hard to decide an outcome because with modern tech there are so many variables into play. Like air power, missiles, stuff like that. I mean if I were to shoot a missile in RP at an allouxian plane, there are so many counters like flares or chaff. Then there would be argument weather the missile was led off course or hit its target.

At least when it comes to swords and shields there are less variables

There's different variables. Terrain (try a massed cavalry charge on hilly or forested terrain). Disease (which historically killed more people than actual battle). Heck, climate - there's ample stories where just not being aware of local climate conditions got invaders slaughtered (viz. Chibi or Ruxu during the Three Kingdoms, the Mongols invading Vietnam or Japan, hell, even during the War of 1812, the sack of Washington got stopped because of a tornado, or how D-Day got pushed back a day because of weather reports.

To say nothing of political factors - in an era before absolutism, do you have any guarantees that your vassals will be helpful - or more to the point, loyal at all? After all, you reference Game of Thrones - who's to say that you won't have a 'late Lord Frey' of your own, or worse, actively malicious or rebellious vassals even as you're prosecuting a war of your own?

And then there's the practical aspects. Suppose I'm in an area geographically equivalent to China, and you're in an area geographically equivalent to New England. I doubt we'll ever interact throughout the course of the RP. That limits options dramatically, unless you're going for a much more restricted geographical area (e.g. an area the size of Europe and MENA), but even then limitations in both your capacity and willingness to project power would curtail interactions between geographic Morocco and geographic Russia.

Setting things in the modern day is the most practical course of action imo, unless you'd rather just throw up your hands and go full SF with interstellar (or at least interplanetary) dominions and easy FTL.

Yeah, space will be the hardest to do. I say modern or swords and shield. Poll time?

If you look at my poll on the most simplistic level, you might realize that the options up there correspond to, essentially:
Imperator: Rome
Crusader Kings
Europa Universalis
Victoria/Hearts of Iron
Stellaris
This was (initially) unintentional, but convenient for people to think about.

Why are we talking about war when we don’t have a military?

The Ursian Empire wrote:Why are we talking about war when we don’t have a military?

We don't have a military because a lot of people just aren't interested in the whole R/D gameplay on NS.
However, the context in which we're talking about warfare is in terms of roleplay - not gameplay.
TBH I don't think even gameplayers talk about it in terms of warfare, I think it's just referred to as 'gameplay', because it isn't really 'warfare' in any sense except the tagging aspect of gang warfare, and without the utility of 'street corners on which one's gang members can hawk drugs' that that possesses - this is literally fighting over virtual real estate, of which there is a practically infinite supply, for the express purposes of either childishly messing with people who can't hit back, or saying 'no hey stop that'.

Cote azure

Azure, Cote Azure
One of the biggest holidays is happening in Cote Azure. The nation celebrates "Dies revolution" Translated from Latin means "Day of revolution." People March in the streets dressed as Azuran legionaries and Centurions. Parades and festivals take place and reanaactments of the event take place in the crowded streets of the capitol.

Cote Azure was founded 2,000 years ago. The country was ruled by weak and incompetent kings for 200 years. Because of weak leadership, Cote Azure was invaded by the Northern Tribes. Azure was sacked, and the city was destroyed. The Azuran people took action and overthrowed the Azuran kings. They established a Republic, and a bill called "Maius Ius" translated from latin meaning "Greater Rights"

Votes were determined by electoral points, and only men above the age of 18 and with proof of Azuran citizenship could vote. Woman could not vote or have any power in the government until 600 years later. Slaves were not freed until 1832.

French Albania is it all possible to bring back the bullenbeisser dog?

The Elder Shamans send their greetings, new brothers and sisters. The Grasha'kiir are a peaceful, nomadic people content with farming and our shamanic traditions. Given the choice, we would prefer to be left to our old ways. But now that we are a part of the world, we must find allies, for we are often told we are "stuck in the stone age." That may very well be true, having seen some of the marvelous technology others possess.

In you, we see ourselves. Hardy people who hail from lands inhospitable to all outsiders. Great warriors. And even some content with simple lives such as ours.
Thus, we have opened our borders both to you and the world at large. May our ancestors guide us in these troubled times.

Nobody... you got to make it yourself. I made mine myself, it's up to you!

Hello people. The Ursain Empire greets you. It is possible to continue your ways and bring radical ones. My country settles in cities but go to the mountains to praise our guardians of nature. With some foreign aid you can combine both your traditions and new things. Welcome to Wintreath

The Industrial people of Greater Balticia lie between the sea and mountains within cities in the plateaus we have seen super power status and shall bring the marvels of technological and financial advancements to your nations if you open your ports to exclusive Central Economic Union Access or join the Central Economic Union

We thank you for the offer, but we do not wish to abandon our ancient traditions so easily. We seek protection in a world filled with those who would do us harm, and though we will happily examine your technology and perhaps even use some, we must not forget our roots. And many of our people do not wish to get involved in the greater world at all. In time, I am sure we will become much more with your help. But for now, industry can wait.
