LinkCOVID-19: Millions in China face shutdowns as coronavirus cases surge and Shanghai access restricted

When I saw that China recorded 1938 cases on Sunday, I had to do a double-take. It's official ladies and gentlemen. Zero-COVID has finally passed its sell-by-date. China is now an international pariah and Hong Kong is a casualty of China's obstinate refusal to adapt to a virus that is rapidly evolving to become both more transmissible but less virulent.

Whereas previous strains targeted the lower respiratory tract resulting in severe infection and a higher death rate but also limiting their ability to spread effectively within a population, the Omicron variant targets the upper respiratory tract, greatly decreasing its virulence but simultaneously increasing its transmissibility, completely replacing the earlier, deadlier strains and causing COVID to grow steadily more "benign" in the process. Thus, I predict that within the next year or two, COVID will eventually evolve to become just "like a flu" or better yet, just another strain of the common cold. Once this happens, the WHO will likely declare the pandemic to be over and ALL COVID restrictions can and must be lifted within this timeframe.

Two years is plenty of time for the virus to infect millions of people around the world in multiple waves, generating a thick and rapidly growing layer of natural immunity. One year is plenty of time to vaccinate and boost millions of people around the world, generating further multiple layers of vaccine-induced immunity. We're not quite in the "endemic" phase of COVID yet, but we're gradually moving in that direction, and public policy has to reflect this ongoing development in real time. Give it another year or two, and we'll certainly get there.

Continue to mandate masks and enforce one-meter physical distancing indoors, on public transportation, and in crowded places. Continue to encourage vaccinations and boosters (but don't use Sinovac). Isolate at home if tested positive. That's it. That's all that needs to be done at this stage in a pandemic that's slowly beginning to wind down. No more lockdowns. No censorship and anti-free speech crackdowns on "misinformation". Reopen the economy 24/7. Reopen our schools. Reopen our pubs, bars, and nightclubs. Reopen our borders to international tourists (except for Chinese tourists from Mainland China). Let people live once again.

Singapore and New Zealand have topped out at c. 20,000 cases a day and they're doing just fine due to their high rate of vaccination and Omicron's lower virulence. Taiwan has abandoned zero-COVID and Omicron has had plenty of chances to spread across the island and yet the country has continued to record just c. 60 cases a day, almost all imported. All three countries along with Australia previously adhered to a zero-COVID policy with great success. The arrival of the Omicron variant has changed all of that and these model countries have managed to get with the times, unlike China and Hong Kong.

I've been following the coronavirus thread on NSG lately and posters seem to be roughly divided into two camps: those who want to lift ALL restrictions without delay a la Florida, and those who want to reinstate and indefinitely drag out ALL restrictions a la China. Needless to say I find myself caught in the middle. There's no need to gravitate toward either extreme. Singapore, Taiwan, Australia, and New Zealand have managed to strike the perfect balance throughout the entirety of this pandemic. They are the countries we should all be looking up to as living examples of sensible, science-based, non-political COVID policy.

Self-induced, economically crippling lockdowns and tyrannical COVID measures are one thing, but I want the West to apply the same kinds of crippling sanctions that Russia has been subjected to against China. I want to see their economy crash and burn and their people rise up in anger at seeing their livelihoods destroyed to overthrow an illegitimate communist regime no matter what happens. Hong Kong must be avenged. America, Canada, Australia, and Europe must be avenged. Malaysia must be avenged. Western sanctions would be far more effective at weakening the Chinese economy than perpetual zero-COVID lockdowns.

Did you know China is also responsible for smuggling illicit fentanyl into America via Canada and Mexico? China has been waging a secret opium war against the United States by getting as many Americans hooked to fentanyl as it possibly can in order to kill them off slowly and painfully with the aim of bereaving families, devastating entire communities, and wreaking havoc on the U.S. economy at large.

For two years, China took full advantage of the COVID pandemic in order to fully crack down on Hong Kong's freedoms, render the rest of the world dependent on Chinese medical "aid" and "donations", including their laughably inferior stock of "vaccines", and grow its economy while the economies of other nations suffered.

Were it not for the pandemic, the massive pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong might've continued well into 2021 and the repressive National Security Law might never have been imposed. Hong Kong would not be the intolerable, totalitarian, communist, COVID hellhole that it is right now. Donald Trump turned out to have been right about COVID leaking from a lab in Wuhan among other things.

While Democrats and progressives were busy playing racial politics with people's lives and inciting mass violence and disorder at home, breaching many of their own COVID rules in the process and making excuses for why they don't have to stay at home, mask up, and social distance if it is for a "just" cause, Republicans were busy holding China and the WHO to account. Trump supporters were the ones chanting "Free Hong Kong" while progressives were worried that an "overly hard line" against China might fuel anti-Asian racism at home. Donald Trump was encouraging people to get the vaccine (and still is) while Kamala Harris was doing the exact opposite.

While people in Hong Kong and Malaysia were rapidly losing their freedoms to communists and Islamist fascists, people in America were shamelessly abusing theirs by violently burning their own neighborhoods to the ground ostensibly over issues of race, and this made me absolutely MAD AS HELL. Even more so because the violence seemed to make the case for Chinese-style totalitarianism.

I fully support violent insurrections to topple authoritarian regimes in places like Russia and China. But if you ever think to riot against a democratically elected government in one of the freest countries in the world, I fully support the police cracking down on you with MAXIMUM force and I fully support judges handing down the MAXIMUM sentence in order to break your spirit and utterly destroy you as a person because your violent, despicable behavior essentially renders you an entitled, subhuman pile of excrement who has just voided all of his or her rights and is therefore no longer a person. I fully support shop owners firing assault rifles into the air from their rooftops in order to deter rioters and looters, especially if they're Korean.

This is why I briefly supported Donald Trump toward the end of his term because, like me, he was tired of all the authoritarian bullsh*t coming from China, the WHO, and all this entitled, out-of-touch, elitist, woke nonsense while the establishment MSM and U.S.-based social media companies didn't seem to care and were and are all too happy to censor and denounce anything that doesn't conform to their narrative as "misinformation" and "hate speech", such as the Wuhan lab-leak theory, only to shift the goalposts a year later and arbitrarily redefine the limits of "acceptable" speech.

The mods on this very site also made the same mistake of enforcing a "COVID misinformation" rule for a whole year when the woke hysteria surrounding race and COVID was at an all time high. They have yet to apologize for any of it and they should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves. The rules of this site closely parallel the arbitrary rules of social media giants such as Twitter, Google, and Facebook.

The mods' views closely reflect the mainstream, establishment narrative of how things are supposed to be. This is why right-wing or conservative users are disproportionately warned and banned for "trolling" merely for expressing a perfectly reasonable opinion on Ukrainian refugees or gender. They simply can't be trusted to rule fairly and without bias no matter how much they try to deny the obvious. I'm not even conservative and yet I've been banned for "trolling" for THREE days because my views on Islam and Israel do not conform to the mainstream, non-Muslim-hating narrative and not because I actually came close to trolling Muslims. Not even once. Not ever. I simply stated my opinion and went about my business as usual.

What irks me even more is when certain users show up in the Moderation subforum to gloat about how they've never been warned or banned even once on this site and how "easy" it is to "just read and follow the rules" even though I have tried my goddamn best to do precisely that. This reminds me of my high school days when even my best efforts to stay out of trouble and out of detention at all costs proved frustratingly elusive.

Recently, Facebook announced that it would now be acceptable to call for violence against Russian officials. It's perfectly OK for "liberals" to boycott Russian restaurants and businesses that have nothing to do with the Russian state and call for Vladimir Putin's head on a stick, but if you boycott a Chinese takeout in SoHo or call for Xi Jinping's death, you're a vile, despicable, racist P.O.S. and you can kiss your Facebook account of 15 years goodbye. The elite top brass at Facebook are obviously making an exception solely for themselves and anyone who holds their establishment views. Right now, it is acceptable to be racist toward ordinary Russian people, apparently because they are not "people of color".

Donald Trump's refusal to concede the 2020 presidential election genuinely took me by surprise. But one spontaneous, unplanned riot in D.C. is nothing compared to hundreds of racial riots in multiple cities across the Western world deliberately incited and egged on by Democrat politicians while "moderates" such as Joe Biden offer insincere, half-hearted "condemnations" of "all violence". Labour, meanwhile, was busy manufacturing a controversy by stirring up racial resentment in the UK over a football match while cowardly cucktard Boris Johnson went on the defensive rather than going on the offensive by dismantling their woke lies and gaslighting of the British public on the floor of the Commons.

Now, two years after COVID broke, the tables have finally turned for good. The Chinese economy is beginning to stagnate due to never-ending lockdowns while Western and other economies thrive as countries reopen and restrictions are comprehensively eased. Even a Third World Muslim "sh*thole" like Malaysia is doing much better than Hong Kong and China on the health front thanks to our Oxford-educated Health Minister, who is thankfully a whole class above his corrupt and ignorant colleagues. It was his appointment as Health Minister last September and his subsequent decision to gradually pivot Malaysia away from the now-discredited Sinovac "vaccine" that set us on the path of recovery. Even with 30,000 cases a day and most restrictions being eased since the beginning of this year, deaths and hospitalizations remain low and the situation remains firmly under control.

The prospect of the Chinese economy imploding due to crippling Western sanctions or COVID makes me very giddy indeed. It's the only country in the world where I actually want COVID cases to rise as high as possible. I want them to suffer like I have suffered, Malaysia has suffered, Hong Kong has suffered, and the West has suffered these past two years. What's happening in China right now is karma. They deserve every second of it and I relish every second of it. China is FINALLY beginning to PAY.

Mainland Chinese netizens impose their COVID hardships on HK people

LinkHong Kong to close off beaches after mainland China uproar

"How can they be so carefree and go to the beach while Shenzhen is under lockdown? So selfish," one user wrote on Weibo.

"All of Guangdong province is crying for what Hong Kong has been doing," another wrote.

How dare they. How F*CKING dare they. How is it that a bunch of online netizens who don't even live in Hong Kong have come to wield so much power over 7.5 million people who don't even live in Mainland China?

Just who exactly is acting selfish here? Hong Kong people who just want to live their lives in peace, or keyboard warriors from outside Hong Kong who clearly see fit to meddle in Hong Kong's internal affairs and selfishly impose their own hardships on other people because we happen to have more COVID freedoms than they do? They're not even from Hong Kong, so why the F*CK do they even CARE? What we do in our spare time is NONE OF THEIR F*CKING BUSINESS. How would they like it if American, Japanese, or Indian Facebook users told them they can't do this or that in their own Chinese towns and cities because other countries are in COVID lockdown but China isn't? Exactly.

If these Chinese keyboard warriors are so jealous of Hong Kong's freedoms (or what's left of them anyway) and so fearful of a virus that originated INSIDE THEIR COUNTRY'S OWN BORDERS that the rest of the world has already begun to adapt to, then why don't they tell the central government to completely seal off the border with Hong Kong and leave Hong Kongers to live their lives in peace instead of taking out their frustration on ordinary Hong Kongers who already have to take so much sh*t from their own government and the central government without also having to put up with constant denigration and condescension from keyboard warriors living outside of Hong Kong who know next to nothing about how Hong Kongers live besides what's being parroted in Chinese state-run fake news outlets?

We in Hong Kong and around the WHOLE WORLD have suffered and struggled and sacrificed EVERYTHING for TWO F*CKING YEARS wrestling with a deadly virus that leaked from a lab in MAINLAND CHINA and now that we're FINALLY beginning to round the bend and successfully adapt and recover for good, Mainland Chinese netizens who are only just now having to deal with a sudden spike in COVID cases along with counter-productive perpetual lockdowns imposed on them by the Chinese government are determined to drag Hong Kongers, who themselves are suffering more than ever before, down with them. They want the rest of the world to suffer some more just so they can be "happy". As if two years of COVID hell isn't enough for them.

Now that the COVID shoe is FINALLY on the other foot, they are only now lashing out, but they are lashing out at exactly the wrong people because if they ever lashed out at the right people, they would never be seen or heard from ever again, which is why Chinese social media, like the Chinese government, is unrepresentative of the views of the average Chinese person. If these "patriotic" netizens had any backbone whatsoever, they would be directly challenging the Chinese government over its failed zero-COVID lockdown policy instead of going for easy targets like the beleaguered residents of Hong Kong who are themselves suffering like never before. The Chinese government itself, despite being ideologically communist, is encouraging and stoking the fires of far-right extremism, ultra-nationalism, and a fascist, xenophobic hatred and utter contempt of the other on Weibo.

Yet Chief Executive Carrie Lam now sees fit to pander to the whims of an unrepresentative minority of online keyboard warriors who don't even live in Hong Kong on top of treating op-eds from the pro-Beijing Oriental Daily and Mingpao Daily as official directives for the Hong Kong government to enforce without debate. The officially sanctioned, politically correct, extreme, far-right opinions of a fringe minority of Chinese netizens who don't even live in Hong Kong apparently carry far more weight than the diverse opinions of 7.5 million people residing entirely within Hong Kong's borders.

I'd LOVE to see these self-righteous keyboard warriors visit Florida and tell Gov. Ron DeSantis and ordinary Americans that because millions of Mainland Chinese are now in perpetual COVID lockdown, Americans living thousands of kilometers away on a separate continent should stop going to the beach, stop dining out, and lock themselves in their homes for the next 100 years. I dare them to say it in person TO THEIR FACES. Tell it to the Japanese. Tell it to the Europeans. Tell it to the Australians. Tell the rest of the world that in order for Mainland Chinese living in perpetual COVID lockdowns to be "happy", the rest of the world must continue to suffer as they do.

Like the Chinese government, these slavishly loyal and patriotic fringe netizens sure love to blame everyone but themselves when things go horribly wrong.

The only silver lining is that now they know EXACTLY how the rest of the world feels.

Desiring to celebrate Emiline’s exemplary long-term success in helping to recruit new and diverse regions to the URA as its Deputy Director of Recruitment, such as the multilingual region of Portugal, aiding in the increase of the size and strength of the URA;

Exuberant at Emira Emi of Emiline’s ongoing service as an Administrator in the Augustin Alliance, where they oversee its day-to-day operations by implementing strong central planning, promoting unity between the AA's member regions, and coordinating the AA's goals, helping to perpetuate the growth of the AA, its influence and World Assembly population even during the most challenging periods;

Impressed at Emiline's instrumental role in ensuring the AA's success and safety during the first five editions of the annual nuclear conflict known to the world as N-Day, where it captured three first-place and one third-place award in total. In addition to avoiding all radiation during the fourth N-Day, Emiline also constructed a strong and mutually beneficial strategic bond between the AA and Anteria, as well as acting as an important mediator between the AA and other regions;

Convinced that Emiline's work to further culture, creativity, constructive regional growth, and common-sense foreign policy throughout the world deserves to be recognized with the greatest award this Assembly can bestow upon a nation;

Desiring to celebrate Emiline’s exemplary long-term success in helping to recruit new and diverse regions to the URA as its Deputy Director of Recruitment, such as the multilingual region of Portugal, aiding in the increase of the size and strength of the URA;

Exuberant at Emira Emi of Emiline’s ongoing service as an Administrator in the Augustin Alliance, where they oversee its day-to-day operations by implementing strong central planning, promoting unity between the AA's member regions, and coordinating the AA's goals, helping to perpetuate the growth of the AA, its influence and World Assembly population even during the most challenging periods;

Impressed at Emiline's instrumental role in ensuring the AA's success and safety during the first five editions of the annual nuclear conflict known to the world as N-Day, where it captured three first-place and one third-place award in total. In addition to avoiding all radiation during the fourth N-Day, Emiline also constructed a strong and mutually beneficial strategic bond between the AA and Anteria, as well as acting as an important mediator between the AA and other regions;

Convinced that Emiline's work to further culture, creativity, constructive regional growth, and common-sense foreign policy throughout the world deserves to be recognized with the greatest award this Assembly can bestow upon a nation;

Hereby commends Emiline;

Just received an email from Michael Shellenberger announcing his run for Governor of California as an Independent. Judging from his Substack columns, he seems to genuinely want what's best for California and seems perfectly sincere in what he believes and stands for. I wish him all the best.
