The latest from Nhoor : viewtopic.php?f=4&t=337003&p=38225203#p38225203
A new year has started so it was time for a layout change. No idea if the existence of earth's facebook and twitter and whatever the little washing machine symbol represents, are acknowledged in The Western Isles but they bring a spot of colour to the previously black and white Nhoracle.

Tagging New totzka (in case he returns), and Almorea

I also copied New Totzka's dispatch on the ancient Raelosi civilisation here to make sure that it doesn't get lost:

N.B. : this dispatch was originally created by New totzka and concerns the Raedlon and Zazchey areas, currently involving Laetharia, Belantica, and Skilles, and to a lesser extent Takiv, Nhoor, and Solaryia. This dispatch was updated to current nations in January 2024 and remains a Work In Progress so new imput is welcome.

Raelosia was a thalassocratic civilisation, originating from First Wave settlers, that existed across the northern coast of Raedlon and throughout the North Mesder Sea from the 15th century BCE to the 2nd century BCE. The civilisation was composed of multiple politically independent city-states such as Cas Vilsti, Cas Ókhar, Cas Pāla and Cas Ālda. Uniting these various states was their shared belief in the Aasharé religion and the complex trading network that existed between each city.

Map of the more prominent Raelosi cities

The Raelosi were among the greatest traders of their time and owed much of their prosperity to trade, primarily exporting tin, copper and bronze and then later precious metals such as gold and silver. By the 5th century BCE the Raelosi became pioneers in production of Vodka, generally using rye grain, which became another key export of the civilisation, with the drink often being traded for the beverages of the warmer nations to the south. Raelosi trading ships travelled as far as the Roendavarian city states in the Eterna sea and Raelosi trading posts were built all along the coasts of Argus and Gael.

Relief depicting a Raelosi woman
from Cas Pāla

Politically, the dependence on trade meant that each city was controlled by a mercantile oligarchy of merchant-lords, referred to by later historians as the Merchants–Potentate. While some cities, like Cas Kivō were monarchs and others, like Cas Vilsti, had elected consuls in reality the governance of the cities were handled by their wealthiest citizens.

Religion was a highly important aspect of the civilisation and played a large role in the daily life of the Raelosi. The Raelosi were worshippers of the Aasharé faith, a nontheistic religion which emphasised an individual’s ability to control their own fate. The Aasharé believed in the Aash, a divine energy of which all things, tangible or otherwise, were composed of. Individuals could supposedly gain control of the Aash by exercising the five precepts (physical strength , charisma/ leadership, wisdom, compassion and Lanceré, with can be translated to either ‘principled opposition’ or ‘uniqueness’).

The Raelosi are widely accepted to have originated on the Zazchey Archipelago (specifically in modern day Laetharia (originally Polar svalbard)), with First-Wave Peoples migrating to and settling the Pamilyan Peninsular in the late 3rd millennium BC. Early proto-Raelosi expansion was limited to the peninsular as the lands to the south were already inhabited by the patchwork of tribal nations collectively referred to as the Piroga culture, after their canoe-like graves, who are thought to be of pre-Mihennan origin, having migrated from South Argus a millennium prior. The mountainous geography of the Pamilyan Peninsular helped ensure the rise of isolated, self-governing communities, forming the foundations for later Raelosi cities such Cas Kivō, Cas Āka and Cas Ōte.

Their terrestrial isolation forced the early Raelosi to take to the seas to prosper, developing a North Mesder trading networking that supplied their cities with copper, tin and timber. Shipwrecks discovered in the Yhai-Pamil basin and throughout the North Mesder have also discovered evidence that precious metals, spirits, crops and animals were also highly important to the early Raelosi economy. It is a common belief that the Raelosi were named after “Raelo” a drink, very similar to vodka, which was commonly drank by the Raelosi, although there is little evidence supporting this theory.

A Raelosi Bireme

From 1500 BCE onwards, the Raelosi sea cities began to develop outposts in the Zazchey Archipelago, Skilles and Yhaiva in pursuit of metal ores. Due to limited records historians are unsure as to what the relationship between colony and coloniser was exactly but its speculated that a culture of self-dependence and benign neglect would develop between the Pamilyan Penisular and its various dominions. Several outposts would grow and become major states with the cities of Cas Pāla in Nhoor, Cas Ālda in the Zazchey Archipelago and Cas Vilsti in Yhaiva becoming major players in Raelosi politics. Additionally, the city of Cas Ohkār was established on the south coast of the Yhai-Pamil Basin to exert control over the Rio de Ouro Basin, brining the Raelosi into conflict with the Tétzūzka and Itdūzkéts dynasties which controlled much of Southern Totzka.

Good day, TWI!

This is to announce that the nation-building prompt has been extended until January 31 in order to facilitate more answers and hopefully inspire more IC and OOC work! Links are down below! Would love to see your works on this.

New aapelistan

So, I'm planning for the Aprosian President Hamaném to go on a bit of a state visit spree, with the intention of improving diplomatic relations overall, to increase trade and to increase investments into Aprosia. While I have a few peeps I want to have a state visit with, who would overall be interested?

I don't see why it wouldn't make sence. While you are far away and wouldn't be that important per se (Aprosia doesn't have much going on in Raedlon so :D), trade and investments can still happen.

Do you have a small satellite you'd like to send into space? Or perhaps several? Don't want to piggy-back on other programmes, but likewise don't have the money for a big, expensive space programme?

Have no fear, Rowlands is here! And they're here with a solution for you and your space-faring woes:

On this wonderful Blue Monday Eve ('Blue Mon-Eve'?), I present to you the next weekly report. Behold:

Every month, the office selects a dispatch posted within the month that it has deemed exceptionally unique, creative and informative and deserves the recognition it needs. The dispatch is then featured here, as part of our Dispatch of the Month program. As long as the original author of the dispatch is in this region and exists on our Regional Map, the dispatch meets our requirements for the program.

Is there a dispatch you know that you feel is worthy of the award? If so, please do not hesitate to inform our Officer of Recognition - the official organizer of the program - of it. The office very much appreciates such nominations, as we are unable to keep track of every dispatch within the region.

About the Dispatch of the Month

The Dispatch of the Month is a program launched and run by the Office of Information. As stated before, the program involves the office featuring a dispatch it likes and feels the need to commend. The program was done in order to stimulate regional activity, encourage creativity, improve writing skills, and boost the overall nationbuilding quality.

The following requirements need to be met in order for a dispatch to be eligible for nomination:

  • Author must be in the region and regional map

  • Dispatch will have to be posted within the month

We determine the Dispatch of the Month results through a number of criteria. Each are worth 10 points, and the highest total score you can achieve is 40. The criteria are:

  • Uniqueness: What makes it different from other dispatches and nominees.

  • Creativity: How original and creative the dispatch itself is.

  • Visual Appealingness: How appealing the dispatch is.

  • Information: How informative the dispatch is.

You can also nominate any dispatch (yes, even yours) so long that it meets our guidelines. This greatly helps us reach a larger number of dispatches and possible nominees. However, only the dispatch with the highest total points based off our criteria will claim the title of Dispatch of the Month.
