It is Thank you Thursday! Since we are still rocking a Canadian WFE I'd suggest posting something Canadian you are thankful for, such as ice hockey, poutine, and the nicer part of Niagara Falls.
The Northern Lights are not the only Canadian celestial phenomenon to be thankful for today (of course, one can see the aurora in many other nations), because it is also World UFO Day (again)! It's so nice they celebrate it twice.

On the subject of UFOs I was President of my local astronomical society in NZ for a couple of years and quite often fielded phone calls from members of the public. I remember one phone call from a lady in Queenstown.
Me: Hello
Jill Public: I’d like to report a UFO.
Me: What did it look like?
JP: Well it was close to the horizon, very bright and twinkled a lot.
Me: Which horizon?
JP: Oh I think it was the west, yes definitely the west because that’s where the Sun just set.
Me: Did this *sarcastic tone* UFO move at all?
JP: Well it slowly got closer to the horizon, but it was very bright and twinkly.
Me: It’s Venus.
JP: Are you sure, planets aren’t that bright.
Me: *mutters* neither are you *normal voice* yes absolutely certain, brightest object in the sky after the Sun and the Moon. Don’t worry the Mekon is not invading.
JP: *hangs up*
Me: Not a Dan Dare fan I suspect.

Back on UFOs - by sheer coincidence Mrs BBD and me were watching an old (1997) Louis Theroux doco tonight, when he was amongst Ufologists. What a bunch of nutters.
He even tried to get time with the Heaven’s Gate cult, about two weeks before they all mass suicided. Lucky escape there.
Best line was on animal mutilations - “faster than a cored animal rectum”.

This is not a troll post. I am firmly against them as well, but there's this: it denies hate a voice. One that can be seen and heard and combated. Perhaps even reasoned with in time.
Let me share two stories to illustrate this point.
Awhile ago, I watched a rap battle between a Jewish man and a fascist. For a time there was a give and take. Skirmishes in a war, one winning then the other. Both sides supporters were prepared to physically battle on several occasions. In the end the fascists won that particular battle, though they lost their voices
several times as their rapper a brief verbal skirmish, and the camera showed more of them than there were Jewish supporters. More such battles were planned by both sides. The winner was their best. And the loser a new, iirc, contender. I suspect that there were equal numbers of supporters on both sides, though I could be wrong.
There was a legal fascist march through an unprepared or unknowing city street. The fascists were frightening people, but I primarily noted the African Americans. Then a huge bearded man stepped out to defend them. A fascist man in black clothing pulled out an iron bar and took a full on swing at the huge man with it. The huge man is a Hebrew man. The Hebrew easily disarmed the man relying on force and violence and hate. Then he allowed the fascist, certainly a Neo-Nazi in this case, to hit him as hard as he could. It barely turned his head. Then the Hebrew man struck back, but not at nearly his full strength. The Neo-Nazi went down and stayed down. Alive, but unconscious.
Consider: RL "wars" waged in new ways. Proportional response and strength withheld unless absolutely necessary. Hatred leashed if tempered and allowed voice in a controlled and legal manner.
I don't know what the result will be, but I do hope.
