Large diameter (6'/15cm), thick polycarbonate with a rare-earth magnet glued centrally. Hand-wound pick-up coil (8-60 ohm), glued to the re-purposed spider of the speaker assembly, both 'floating'.
A re-purposed speaker frame is used (minus the magnet) to make a shallow sturdy frame for the microphone assembly.

The goal is a microphone capable of low frequency reproduction (kick-drum).
It should do very well in the 30Hz or below range, hopefully with much under dampening, which will add to the overtones/richness.
