Read A New Book Day

When you open the pages of a new book, you find yourself swept up in a new world of characters and stories, or maybe just information. The best books, even instructionals, guide you through a storyscape that builds up and shares the vision of the author. Read A New Book Day is your opportunity to pick up that novel you’ve been meaning to finish, that DIY manual you bought to finish that project, or even a technical manual to help you understand a new piece of machinery.

Books have stood as a testament to the spread of knowledge, the sharing of tales, and the expansion of the mind by recording and passing on these ideas down through a written medium. By writing down and replicating the thoughts, ideas, and imaginations of authors to fans, students, and philosophers everywhere we create the ability to share and expand our own thoughts by reading them. The first written word appeared in 3400BC, and the first story was The Epic of Gilgamesh, a tale of the eponymous ruler of the Sumerian city-state of Uruk between 2700-2500BC, told in a mythological style.

While this first tale was written on clay tablets, it none-the-less is a book. The definition of what constitutes a book has certainly changed over the years, covering everything from bark pages held together in a variety of styles, rolled pages of papyrus, and books more like those we’re familiar with today. Read A Book Day encourages you to take in as many books as you can in your life, living many lives, learning new things, and opening your mind to new forms of philosophy.

Celebrating Read A New Book Day encourages you to do just what’s in the name! Read a new book! Then make reading a habit throughout the year by establishing a book club with some people, and getting together to read and discuss a different book each meeting! Don’t let Read A New Book Day go by without discovering a new author!

As you can see, I have redone the dispatch quite a lot with the BBcode, and that was partially the reason I was not writing NS news for over a week. In the meantime, after Nakarisaune stepped down as Prime Minister of the South Pacific, North Prarie has been elected Prime Minister in an overwhelming landslide. Sail Nation/Sail Nation World News Service has launched The NationStates Chronicle! You should check it out if you want more news! On the forum, we have a question asked by Geneviev: Is there a higher power? We also know that 2020 will end if this gets 100 upvotes! Thaecia and The East Pacific have signed a treaty, called "THE POEM OF THE GREATS," and The North Pacific and the South Pacific will be having a festival!

In R/D news, Uniao da Cracolandia has been raided and occupied by a coalition of The North Pacific, The East Pacific, The Black Hawks, Europeia, The Land of Kings and Emperors, Social Technocratic Union, and Balder. Primula and New Dinosaurtopia have been liberated by The Order of the Grey Wardens, who is now fighting Lily/The Allied Nations of Egalaria for Outre Space. BHARATVARSH has also been raided by The Black Hawks.

Anyway, -tHe ChIcKeN-- has become the delegate of Chicken overlords! Eravon has published The Roleplay Times, publishing and recording the RP happening in Karma's roleplay discord. Plus Nova Imperii has published two new alternate histories: "What if America lost the Revolutionary War?" and a SECOND BRITISH CIVIL WAR?! We got another edition for the Conch Times, and wait, Enadia has another edition too! The featured region today is Supernatural! Congratulations!

Creator's note: The following is an opinion only and is not news or fact like the rest of the dispatch.

OPINIONS:

Why TWP is the bottom feeder

By La xinga

Let's get to the point: TWP has the lowest nations of any feeder, lower than all the sinkers, and even lower than TRR. You may ask yourself: Why? Why is a region where nations get founded in lower in NoN' (Number of Nations) than a region where nations get ejected to by 1,000 nations?!

To answer this, we need to see why TWP is different than the other feeders. Not in a good way nor bad way, but in a way that seemingly makes them have less nations. Let's take a look.

First of all, TWP doesn't care to be in the top, unlike some members in TEP (like me) and some people in TNP. TWP really couldn't care less.

Second of all, their ejections. The largest region, The North Pacific (TNP) has about 9,700 nations! Despite all of this, TNP didn't eject a nation in a week! Looking at TWP, however, with around 4,000 nations less than TNP, they ejected at least 150 nations this past week.

TWP seemingly ejects puppets, and some puppets (usually card farming puppets) don't usually care what region they are in. Thus, TWP has sent streams of nations into TRR, which helps TRR as well as TWP, since TWP doesn't want puppets anyway. A less active RMB and less nations could mean nations just moving out on there own.

However, TWP has a lot of nice members, willing to help new nations who struggle. If TWP keeps up their ways on the RMB, they could become the most active feeder on NS! Good doesn't come in specifically NoN'.

Notes
Sekiwake - Shodai
Shodai stays Sekiwake as well as in Sanyaku for the 3rd consecutive tournament.

Sekiwake - Mitakeumi
Mitakeumi stays Sekiwake as well as in Sanyaku for the second consecutive tournament.

Sekiwake Debut - Daieisho
Daieisho is the first newly promoted Sekiwake since Asanoyama who had been promoted in January 2020.
He is the first Rikishi from Oitekaze Beya to achieve this since Hayateumi who had been promoted in November 2000.

Concerning Rikishi from Saitama Prefecture reaching the Sekiwake-rank, Daieisho is only the second one post WWII. The previous one had been Wakachichibu, who was promoted in the July tournament of 1963.

For the first time since November 2017 we have 3 Sekiwake. (Back then it had been Mitakeumi, Yoshikaze and Terunofuji.) Concerning Sekiwake without Ozeki experience, this is the first time since September 2011. (In those days Kotoshogiku, Kisenosato and Kakuryu held the Sekiwake-rank.)

Komusubi - Okinoumi
Okinoumi stays Komusubi for the 2nd time in a row.

Komusubi Return - Endo
Endo is back in the Komusubi-rank after 2 tournaments.

Makuuchi Debut - Tobizaru

Tobizaru is the 10th Rikishi from Oitekaze Beya to reach Makuuchi since the current Shisho has founded it. The previous one had been Tsurugisho in September 2019.

He is the 31st Rikishi post WWII from Tokyo, also following Tsurugisho.

Additionally, he is the 38th graduate of Nihon University to achieve this. The previous one again being Tsurugisho.

Moreover, joining his older brother Hidenoumi in reaching Makuuchi means that both are the 11th brother duo to achieve this. The previous one had been Chiyomaru and Chiyootori in March 2014. (See Table 1 at bottom of dispatch)

Makuuchi Debut - Hoshoryu
Hoshoryu is the 4th Rikishi from Tatsunami Beya to reach Makuuchi since the current Shisho has inherited it.

The previous 3 had been Ohinode, Mokonami and in July 2018 most recently Meisei.

Following Kiribayama's promotion this January, he is the 27th Mongolian as well as the 50th foreigner to achieve this.

Makuuchi Return - Meisei
Meisei returns to Makuuchi after 2 tournaments.

Makuuchi Return - Kyokutaisei
Kyokutaisei returns to Makuuchi he was demoted from in September 2018. It took him 11 tournaments to get back.

Makuuchi Return - Ichinojo
Ichinojo returns to Makuuchi after 4 tournaments. He was demoted last November.

In the SC, "Repeal "Commend The Red Fleet"" is up for the vote, and it is ranked SAFE FOR.

Hello everybody, and welcome back! While we were gone, breaking news filled up the place, from the forum to updates, and from moderator promotions to Number of Nations. So let's get into it, shall we?

First off, three amazing Forum Moderators (Santheres, Zurkerx, and Giovenith,) have been promoted to the rank of Game Moderator! Congratulations! The difference between the two can be found here.

Second of all, on August 31, major update was announced to be CANCELED! (Forum version is here.) This left R/D quiet for the night, and Irish Free State was "featured twice in a row! ;)." Regardless, after that R/D made up for the loss. A fight in The Solar System between TBH and TGW is on, while The Union of Rhetorical Republics was also raided.

In NoN', we saw a massive fall in the sinkers, each losing hundreds of nations before quietly trying to climb back up as you can see in the chart to your right. Chicken overlords beat The North Pacific as the largest region in all of NationStates. How do you feel about this? Go vote!

Onto the forum, Occidens Praseodymia asks a question: Where are the best geographic locations to build a city? Also, in the top-left of the screen you can see that a proposal to repeal the resolution to "Commend the Red Fleet" is pretty much certainly gonna pass. Well, extremely influential nation in Issues and the World Assembly Honeydewistania is already making a new commendation! And although a bit late, "A Chip is Coming Into Your Brain." Yup.

Anyway, the results for NSNBA are now here, the Cable has made another edition, oh and so has EPNS! August Edition! TSP had endorsement day, and here are the results, as well as TNP's WA development awards! Thaecia seems to be having a finance reform if I got that right, and the 75th senate of Europeia was elected! The South Pacific Special Forces report is out, as well as Anteria's new news edition! The featured region today is Thorossia! Congratulations!

And yes, the memes.

In the SC, "Repeal "Commend Kuriko"" is up for the vote, and it is also ranked SAFE FOR.

Welcome back everyone! Although it has only been 4 days since the last edition, breaking news has erupted and just cannot simply wait. First of all, elections for the most endorsements in all of NationStates (Delegate of the North Pacific) is up for grabs between 9003, Pigeonstan, Gorundu, Praeceps, and Kranostav, with the latter two being in the lead. For Vice-delegate we have Dreadton, Bobberino, and New Francois, with Dreadton in the lead, and finally for Speaker we have Madjack, Comfed, and Lady Raven Wing, with Madjack in the lead.

Speaking of The North Pacific, after North Pacific Vision 8 ended, the winner, Kartujia now hosts the next North Pacific Vision! And in Europeia, the second edition of the Europeian Basketball Cup is scheduled for December 31st, and all of the nations participating will be selected on September 10th! Ask Baobab-Bumbaria for more about that.

IN R/D NEWS, TGW defended and/or liberated all of this, and Anti Neko Alliance was raided by TEP with the flag of, well, a neko. the South Pacific has now taken Warzone Australia from Lardyland.

Speaking of TSP, it's coup Tuesday over there, and they actually made a "commie coup." You can now get founded in People’s Republic of the South Pacific and endorse the glorious Chairman Amerion! More info can be found here.

Onto NoN', TRR beat TP, ATOMIC beat Europe, and Big Farma beat Europeia, The Communist Bloc, and The free society of Tic Tacs. The region Dead Sea fell dramatically between September 5 and 6, and NationStates (the region) is still on their long decline since July 10th.

Anyway, Middle Vers is giving propaganda for dictators. Oh man. The TNP Vice-delegate weekly update is out, and the TEP Ministry of culture is having a header & footer contest! In terms of delegates, Theberstan has been elected Delegate of First World Order, Agarath has become delegate of Codex Ylvus, and Nolandisland has become delegate of Lone Wolves United! The featured region today is Lemuria! Congratulations!

OPINIONS:

Creator's note: The following is a complete joke and should be treated as such.

Don't be fooled: TSP being "Communist" means something else.

By La xinga

As you know, the South Pacific has been "Couped by Commies." Uhuh. I'm sure. If so, why are the same people in government? A real coup does not involve the same people. The only thing to say is that the TSP government changed ideologies, but why?

First of all, on this day, September 8th, President of the United States Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon. Some people considered this an act of corruption, so it's only obvious TSP would absorb this aura.

In any case, whatever your opinion on Communism is, the government of TSP will be acting corrupt with it, and here's why: How can you have communism in NS?

Well, you can own all the land. Will the TSP government do anything good with this land? Well, no. If corruption is so prevalent, can you imagine if the government of TSP controlled every nation in it's boundaries? We'd see the RMB of TSP filled up with propaganda about the excellence of Glorious Leader Chairman of the Revolution Amerion, we'd see nations being used as tools by Auphelia as pets, we'd see TSP in complete isolation from it's allies, it will be a disaster.

The government of TSP will tax your Cards by each card's market value, and YOUR card bank will become EVERYONE'S card bank, rather Auphelia's actually, used by her to continue growing her ever-expanding luxury palaces with 500 Bugatti Chirons in her garage.

The army? Serving the revolution? Rather serving the Comintern's every whim, using nations to vote for whatever proposal and coup their 13-year old allies.

Therefore, we need to put a stop to this madness before 'Oh How Glorious Leader' starts turning us into brainwashed sapients, made to fulfill every small need of Auphelia's 20,000 servants.

I rest my case.

Oh, yes, the memes.

Nukes fly, people die: N-Day5.

By La xinga

N-day is becoming closer and closer, and everybody better get ready. Protect your people!

Seriously, reporters in Max Barry's office claimed the day of nuclear destruction be on September 26th, and last N-day had "The Horsemen of the Apocalypse" in 1st place and Uppercuts in last.

This is what you need to know for N-day. Read it before you, yourself, are embroiled in the conflict! That, or you might be a defense specialist and defend nations, or an economic specialist that........ask someone. Basically they can store extra stuff, but some regions do different stuff with them.

Although don't get mad if someone nukes you or blocks your bomb (shield), remember, it's just a game, the other person is also a human, not Max Barry. (Before you ask, yes, we have studies that confirm that Max Barry is not just a human.)

Back on topic, they are fears that the radiation form the bomb will not only kill people, but turn them into zombies around a month later. Yes, actual zombies.

This radiation can do many things, such as making your people have three eyes, one nostril, oh, how terrible.

Now why is the world going into nuclear destruction? We don't know. Although one's thing for sure: This N-day will have some weird factions.

Which faction do you think will win N-day?
