I've decided to begin an emergency meeting of the NCS Parliament to come up with a gameplan for the election of the high offices. You can find it in the Parliamentary Lobby. I am unaware of any statute that prevents the interim Sec. Gen. from doing so, but please let me know if this is an overreach. It appeared that no one else was going to do anything, and as one of the parties involved, it seemed advisable to begin these proceedings.

Some pools give Le Pen not even passing the second round... CHAMPAGNE !

Fillon vs Macron pls

As it stands now, we currently have a General Election in progress. However, we have not had a full slate of candidates for all positions. We could hold a special election that would elect a Secretary-General only, but as it stands with our laws and regulations this would need to be something that goes through Parliament. Or if there are other proposals, I would be glad to hear them.

which positions are being contested so far? I will announced candidacy for re-election if it will help

That's the matchup I'm hoping for. Personally, I think Fillon would be France's best chance in 2017. He's a moderate Gaullist, and has rather agreeable plans for the domestic sphere. I don't like his attachment with the Russians, but that's not very important, because unlike Le Pen, he's okay with the EU.

On the South Korean election, Hong Joon-pyo all the way!

unfortunately that's what we thought about Trump...hopefully the French are smarter than Americans

Even if she pass for the second round, she'll get what we call the “Front Républicain”, basically all parties rallying from radical-communists to conservatives to prevent fascists from taking power. In 2002 it happened, 82,21 % for Chirac against Le Pen. She'll just get rekt.

I had originally planned a bottle of champagne in order to sabre it when the results would come out... But now...

We thought that moderates and third parties would vote democratic to stop Trump after he won the primaries too but that didn't happen

Human rights violations, invasion of Crimea, support of the Assad regime, do I need to continue?

Ruslanaya wrote:Why is having Russian Connections such a HORRIFIC thing now all of a sudden ?

Also, when did Russia become synonymous with evil, in the eyes of the West?

It isn't Russia itself; I really like Russia as a nation. The people, culture, and history are fascinating. It's the Putin regime that's the problem:

He's a dictator, plain and simple. Even when Medvedev was in office, he was a puppet of Putin.

Putin has had his critics killed for their work.

He conducted a rigged process in the Crimea referendum (the Ukrainian constitution calls for all provinces to vote on changes to the borders. That didn't happen.)

He supports Bashar al-Assad, one of the the worst war criminals still in power.

He is extremely corrupt, and is likely the richest person in the world through his corruption.

Although Putin is no Kim Jong-un, he isn't a friend of the West. The Russian people very well could be, but not while he's in power.

If you're looking for a straight answer, 1917, with a brief interval of a better reputation, then evil again after 1945. Another interval happened from 1991 until around 2014.

The Russian Revolution scared everybody, what with Communism and all. They were kind of our friends in World War Two and were essentially the main force that defeated Nazism. After that, the Cold War scared everybody again. 2014, with the start of the Ukraine crisis, brought Russia back into the spotlight as the "bad guy".

I've always been leery of a state ruled by Putin or Medvedev. Yeltsin was okay. Not a very good leader, but a decent man.

Flashbacks to November 8th? XD

It's working out just like it did in the US election. Let's just hope Emmanuel can do what Hillary couldn't.

A Le Pen win would be the end of Europe as we know it. It would prove that we're back in the 30's again, with the rise of nationalism.

If she does win, there will be newspapers calling Trump Hitler, and Le Pen Mussolini. Or vice-versa.

Minister of Culture none
Minister of the Interior none

Non-Secretariat Position:
Regional Treasurer Uttland

Would be more likely “Le Pen-Pétain”...

So basically French have the choice between a fascist which have passed a few evening with ex-nazis in a ball in Vienna, or a man which stated having “never seen French culture” and that “there is no French Art”, that “Colonisation of Algeria was a warcrime”, stating in the same interview that he was socialist but in fact that he wasn't (he really did this), stating that one of his support was radical islamist but “he was sympathic” so he keep him... Screw it, the best is just to leave France...

That's what we faced in America. We had Trump, the insane nationalist/sexual predator who got by simply by insulting his opponents. Then we had Hillary Clinton, the compulsive liar whose inaction resulted in the deaths of several Americans at the American compound in Benghazi, Libya.

The Uupha is not dead! :)
My semester is ending soon, so after Tuesday, if we need someone else to run to finally get this election going, I'll run for whatever position's left. :P
And if someone's already running for everything, maybe I'll make it an actual competition. xp

If you happen to stumble back upon the RP, you might see that a brutal civil war has just been ended by an equally brutal invasion by Byzantia and Kerknia in True Christopia, with many ethnic Uuphans being killed. so yeah. there's that.

Well, the Kerknian part wasn't THAT brutal. It was more of a peace keeping campaign with more bullets. And some napalm.

Okay, yeah, it was kind of brutal, but not a war crime.
