As far as I know, they are still keeping the monarchy.

Greylyn wrote:We do not have an inside knowledge about what is being decided regarding Thalassia’s future outside of that dispatch. Perhaps this could mean a departure from the monarchy but again, this is all stuff they are currently in the process of deciding as they stabilize the region.

So I guess the question is: should we take any action on the embassy now? Technically, it's still illegal for now, but it feels like a major hassle to take it down only to reinstate it later if they do abolish that tag.

That' the question. We're debating what to do with this development right now. We'll let you all know our thinking soon:)

From a person outside of the government's perspective, I feel like you should leave the embassy open, but stop having direct diplomatic relations with them until something can be decided.

Welcome! You'll want to fix those by answering your issues and choosing the option which feels the best to you.

Potato Alliance is the name of our faction for N-Day, hence I am constructing Embassies with the region that's been established by those running that faction for the purposes of N-Day

So don't be alarmed if you see some region you've never heard of suddenly gets an Embassy. It's for N-Day and only temporary.

What is their region, and is it also potato-themed?

Repeal: “Promotion Of Recycling”

I see that our region is mostly against this repeal. Would anyone who’s voted against care to share their thoughts (anyone who’s in favor of the repeal can share as well)?

Likely Spiritus. I was involved there for a time, and have a, uh, secret nation stationed there. They have a rather deep affection for potatoes.

Secretary Greylyn,
I as much as you do not understand the opposition in our nation.
I am for the repeal due to the poor wording and vague rules in it.
However, I think it is because the fact that then there would be no standards for recycling at all.
Which is why the repealing and then revoting of updated resolutions is quite tedious and stupid.

This is how the process of WA repeals works. You don't submit a replacement until the existing resolution is nullified.

Thank you Comrade

But if there was a way for you to "fix" aspects of an already existing resolution that is other wise completely fine, it would be much better than to completely get rid of it.

No, there is no way to amend existing resolutions. To fix any issues, you need to completely repeal and then replace it.

---

Response rates picked back up to 29 this time. The Secretary approval rating remained about level just over 50%, with little change in rating over the course of this term. The Cabinet approval rating fell marginally down to just under 70%, likely due to the anomalous high rating in the last poll, but still a net increase from one month ago.

This will be the final poll before the September 2020 general election nomination commences in 10 days. Our next poll will be on the voting intention for the election with the nominated candidates.

Thank you to all who responded - make sure to keep an eye on your telegram inbox for the next poll in ~2 weeks! :)

State of the Legislature

Comrades,

When this term began, the GA found itself in an uncertain position. The Speaker election had to be delayed because only 6 of the 7 seats had been filled during the general election that preceded it, demonstrating a lack of interest in the legislature. Meanwhile, the GA also faced the unprecedented situation of having a majority of first-time members, something which, to my knowledge, hadn't occurred in over three years. The by-election for the seventh GA seat was contested by the candidate that voters had rejected at the general election, and two former Speakers using a loophole to get around the term limit, one of whom later faced a vote of no confidence as a member of Cabinet, and the other being described by the former as too entrenched and inflexible to face such a new situation. It was difficult for anyone to predict how the 18th GA was going to perform.

As we move towards the last week of the effective legislative term, I think it's safe to say that this GA has exceeded all expectations, and then some. The 18th General Assembly smashed the previous record of 14 pieces of legislation passed in a term, having passed 19 over the last 2 months and 7 days. This GA has received the highest census rating of any GA under the new split system, and is the second-highest rated GA in Assemblian census history. In terms of polling, we recorded a stunning 97% approval rating in YouLeft polling, the highest of any elected body or government official in Assemblian history.

I'll now address the MGAs that have served in this GA as a whole, rather than going through all of the legislation that we have passed this term. After all, the advantage of a written State of the Legislature speech is that it doesn't have to be long and tedious.

This term could only have been a success with MGAs that were genuinely engaged with Assemblian government and that wanted the best for our community, and the MGAs we've had this term have been exactly that. While other aspects of our government have caused both myself and this community significant anguish this term, our MGAs have continued writing, debating and passing legislation for the benefit of all Assemblians. In particular, I must give a massive thanks to Comrade Antinios, who has written almost half of the legislation that has passed through the 18th GA in their very first government term. I sincerely hope that they continue to find a place in Assemblian government in the terms to come, as I do with all of our current MGAs.

We must now look ahead, to the 19th General Assembly. I will be term-limited out of the GA at the end of this term, and therefore the GA will pass into the hands of a new Speaker. My hope is that the responsibility of that post will fall to someone that has never held the role before, and that the successes of our fresh faces this term will inspire more first-time GA candidates to run this September. I am leaving this GA in perhaps the best position that it has ever been in, and I couldn't be prouder.

Thank you to MGAs Antinios, Argentigrad, Dyl, New samon, Nottinhaps, and Sincadenas, for this wonderful term.

Unity in Diversity!
