Earlier today, the scheduled speech from Empress Mira was strangely halted. People across the nation tuned in to find out what was going on. A couple hours later, Civilians heard this horrifying message.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, I regret to inform you that today, Empress Mira has passed away. The cause of death is currently not known. This country mourns the loss of a great leader. 25 Year old Princess Emily will become Empress and will most definitely keep this country on a sturdy and bright path.”

Across the Country, civilians began mourning the sudden loss of Mira. A State Funeral will be held in the Capital, then she will be buried in her home State of New Iowa. Now-Empress Emily has taken charge of the nation. A state of mourning has been declared for the entire country. All flags have been ordered to be lowered to half-staff. A Funeral for the Empress will be held in the Empress’ home state of New Iowa. A national moment of silence has been held in respect of the Empress and her accomplishments.

    The Assailants
With the Search and Rescue Helicopters arriving on the scene, they would begin their operation - opening their helicopters and activating their equipment, moving to rescue as many Kuni as possible.
When some of the Kuni willingly gave themselves to the S&R Crews, the Crews would begin to heal them as best they could, though with soldiers aboard each helicopter it would be clear that they weren't being given back to their homelands - rather, the presence of the soldiers themselves essentially guaranteed that the Kuni Survivors would be held in containment for a while.
However, most surprising to the Alingarchi S&R Operatives, were the Kuni that tried to attack. Three Kuni, on different helicopters, each tried to attack the Crews and Medics. The reaction to these Kuni, however, was swift and ruthless.
Aboard the first Helicopter, a Soldier spotted the Kuni's knife almost as soon as it happened, and when the Kuni tried to stab a Medic, the Soldier blocked the knife attack with his forearm, his arm getting stabbed but the Civilian Medic being protected. With his other arm, he grabbed the Kuni's attacking arm and quite rapidly, snapped it to the side, snapping the arm bones clean in half. He then swept the Kuni's leg from underneath, knocking the sailor to the ground, before kneeling down onto the sailor's back, holding them down while detaining them with tape.
On the second helicopter, a similar occurrence happened, where a Kuni sailor tried to attack the Pilot, to be subdued by a Soldier who knocked the sailor out with a solid punch to the back of the Sailor's head.
The third helicopter was a much grimmer occurrence, where the Kuni sailor brought aboard happened to pull out a knife and managed to break into the Cockpit, to be met with a bullet to the torso from behind, from the Alingarchi Soldier aboard, the knife thrown overboard and the Sailor detained. However, due to the extent of the Sailor's injuries, the sailor died en route back to Apex proper.

When the S&R Helicopters arrived back at Apex, the Kuni Sailors that were aboard each helicopter would be essentially surrounded on all sides by armed Alingarchi Soldiers, who upon any sign of the Sailors attacking anyone, would not hesitate to immobilize or kill the Sailors to protect their brethren. As it seemed, it was not smart for the Kuni to attack or make any moves to attack the Soldiers.

The Fate of the Mother Rosette
It seemed all hope for the Mother Rosette, was lost. With the mines having little effect against the Kuni Submarines, the few remaining Sailors aboard would come to the grim realization that their lives were coming to a close. With their little time they had left, some would say their prayers to their gods, others would move to send emergency signals and warnings back to Apex Proper.
    In a last-ditch effort to warn Apex Proper, two things happened;

A group of Sailors would make it to the Bridge of the Mother Rosette, transmitting a signal back to Apex Proper, warning them of the Kuni Submarines, giving their estimated numbers and threat capacity, as well as their last words to be delivered to the Sailor's loved ones and families.
Another group of Sailors would begin to fire off flares into the skies, giving a more visual warning to Alingarchi Ships within the Region, Alingarchi Soldiers in Antenesia, and Task Force Apex as well.

When the Kuni Torpedoes impacted into the Mother Rosette, they impacted with brilliant explosions below the deck, with additional volleys punching holes into the Ship's hull and increasing the rate of sinking.
Within a small time, the Mother Rosette was nearly flipped onto it's size, certain to sink. The crew of the Rosette were nearly entirely dead, with only around 17 Sailors having made it to the Surface, either by using life rafts, or by clinging to pieces of floating rubble of the Rosette. The ones aboard the Liferafts, would be clearly non-combatant ships, of injured and clinging-to-life soldiers making a last-ditch effort to escape. If they were caught by Kuni Submarines, they would resolve to take their own lives, some using their own sidearms to put a bullet in their heads, others using knives to slit their own throats. It was increasingly clear, that if the Kuni were to catch the Alingarchi Survivors, that they wouldn't get far in killing them themselves, nor capturing them.

    Task Force Apex's Retaliation
With word of the Kuni Submarines reaching Apex Proper, a response was nearly instant. Ships would gear for Submarine Combat, with specialized Sea Warfare Helicopters being readied and Carrier-Based Fighters readying torpedoes and sea mines. In addition, soldiers within Antenesia themselves would prepare for a worst-case scenario - preparing for a Kuni Landing. Soldiers would move to their Base of Operations, arming themselves with their rifles and preparing defenses. However, they wouldn't let the Antenesian Civilians themselves know of the situation at hand, instead resorting to inform the Antenesian Guardsmen Officers as well as leadership of Antenesia, telling them information relayed by Apex Proper and the fate of the Mother Rosette.
Humvees would be prepared and armed as well, moved to the Antenesian Dock as well as the few M8s on Antenesia.

In all reality, a Defense of Antenesia would be prepared, both a Naval Defense and a Defense of the Island itself, if the worst were to come.

(OORP: I know Alingarch is no more, I just wanted to wrap up this storyline given its relevance. And yes, they gave me permission to post this)

With the Mother Rosette bound for the ocean floor, the Kuni would simply leave the remaining Alingarchi to their fates, unable to afford the time to either pick them off or rescue them. Instead, they turned and left, chugging ahead to rendezvous with the second fleet.

Proud as they were, the Kuni had seen the writing on the wall; they knew it was only a matter of time before Alingarchi reinforcements arrived and finished what the aircraft could not. Though Kuni ships may be waiting in the wings, there was no doubt in their minds that their fate would be the same as the others. They'd be bombed to oblivion. So, they retreated.

Hours later, they reached the other fleet, reuniting with the subs that had previously peeled off. Information was exchanged, a badly damaged submarine scuttled, and they returned to Antekuna, anticipating the enemy every step of the way.

But the enemy never came.

Though they had no way of knowing, a great calamity had struck Alingarch. Across the vast and lifeless Akatama, in the far west of the great Akjanan continent, their neighbor had suffered a collapse as cataclysmic as it was sudden. In the chaos, through unknown means, Alingarchi forces en route to deal with the Kuni vanished. Their way to Antekuna lay clear, and some time later, they would reach home shores.

    Aftermath

The Battle of Splinters was an engagement anticipated but unexpected. Two fleets, from two states; the Kuni Federation and Hwokān, had set out across the Akschoss Ocean with a mission in mind; to reinstate the Loyalist government as the sole rulers of Antenesia. In doing so, they would restore the islands to their rightful place as part of the nation and order of Antekuna. The reasoning for this was simple; the Kuni had never recognized the secession as legitimate, and the increasingly radical actions of the tiny republic threatened to unravel Kuni isolation and throw the future of Antekuna in jeopardy.

Suspecting, but not knowing, Antenesia would seek foreign military backing, the fleet of the Kuni Federation, which would have arrived in Antenesia days before the Hwokāni, hung back, letting their bitter rivals take the lead. Sure enough, the odd gambit played off when the Hwokāni came into contact with the Alingarchi, after which they were promptly massacred.

Understanding the sinking of the Federati fleet - numerically superior to their own - would leave Kuni shores undefended against Odrelan invasion, the Hwokāni made a remarkably out of character decision. Instead of letting their enemy cripple their own fleet, which would have evened the field navally in the ongoing Kuni Wars, they informed the Federati of their impending doom. Though no one knew it yet, this move of idealistic comradery would have profound and sweeping consequences.

For the time being though, the scourged Hwokāni subs and their Federati escort headed home. As they did, a dreadful thought plagued them. As unsightly as their fate upon their return was, Antekuna's may be darker. Proved to Antekuna - perhaps even Kalrania - was an inescapable fact; everything in Antekuna was now obsolete. The weapons, arms, tech, tactics, everything, it was done. Old, defunct, to be tossed aside. For the first time in their existence, a Kuni had branded into them the meaning of airpower, and without it, Antekuna would crumble at the faintest tap from the Odrelans.

But maybe not the subs.

As notable as the resounding failure of the ironclads was the astounding success of the submarines. Save some sinking to the mines, they had performed admirably in the battle, even sinking the Mother Rosette. From this point on, two principles would dominate Kuni military doctrine - aircraft and subs. Their offense, their defense, their grandest strategy and most laser-focused tactics, all of it would consider these lessens impaled into them by this oh-so-traumatic Battle of Splinters.

So, the Kuni lick their wounds, and again vanish from the Kalranian stage.

...If only for a moment.

Archron empire wrote:RP: Aerial Recon and deployment of the RHIB

Seeing that the people ashore have no interest in the clearly obvious carrier, The Carrier would receive its orders. Sending out 2 SABRES to survey the air, and 3 RHIB boats (Dingies basically) with RCA to the shore, hopefully they would get their attention and get information

As they closed the gap and entered the cove, the Archians would hear the loud blare, from what sounded like a combination of a loud, strange, distorted horn. Aboard the carrier, a man would climb, waving a large red pennant at the incoming strangers.

The horn and pennant would fall into sink, with the man making a shoving motion towards the Archians as the horn let out a pointed blare. This would rhythmically continue. It seemed as if they were trying to signal something to the trespassers.

As they did this, a single dinghy would glide out from behind the carrier, an unmanned turret and a communications rig hooked up to it. Coming to a stop somewhere between the foreignors and themselves, the captain would pick up a wired communicator. No sooner would the Archians receive a signal, broadcast in heavily broken Kalran.

"Stohp, stohp tere. You ahr in Koonee waters, ahnt you terespahs. Stat yoor pohrpes."

It seems he wants to know their intentions, but it's very hard to tell given his accent.

---

Things would be far less of a headache for the aircraft. With the Kuni visibly lacking any anti-air defenses, they made no effort of doing anything to stop the planes.

In their search, they would find what looked to be a standard military/naval base. Troop barracks, a strange, large warehouse like structure, but nothing odd. The base was surrounded by a desert and xeric shrubland of increasing altitude, and long roads to seemingly nowhere could be seen to the east and west.

As for the cargo freighter, they would see a stream of unloading taking place, as primitive trucks and motor vehicles (1910s-20s era) would ferry away the goods to the previously scouted warehouse. Given the canvas covering of the backs, they could not see precisely what was being carted off.

RP: Forced Hands

Not long after the defeat of the Kuni fleet by the now collapsed Alingarch, news began to trickle into the Antenesian islands. As it did, the Loyalist atolls were forced to reckon with a new reality. In islands whose history was defined by their powerlessness to resist the mainland in conflict, the Kuni now held no power. Should they desire, the Antenesian government in Lahonas could easily call upon their allies and manpower and bring the rural atolls to their knees.

Worse, the Republic knew this all too well, and they pressed it, mounting pressure for the Loyalists to honor the Treaty of the Houses and hold referendums on joining the Republican government. Reluctantly, and after some dialogue, the Loyalist government agreed to this. A vote, atoll by atoll, was set up regarding the future of the cause; would they remain loyal to powers which can no longer protect or assist them, or would they join the enemy that split the nation?

In the end, many chose the latter. Of the almost two dozen atolls, all but 5 voted with varying majorities to join the Republic, including all the most populous ones.

The newly-integrated atolls shall have temporary representatives appointed to the legislature, before holding elections after their populations are tallied in the next census.

The coming years will test the merits of peaceful reintegration, but the results are already being shown. As Luita'ani's second term comes to a close, the event has both cemented her administration's enduring legacy and provided a much needed feather in her cap after a gruelling four years of stagnancy bred by cabinet infighting and persistent gridlock.

Though five atolls remain under Loyalist control, their fight is largely over. Those islands which hold steadfast to the Kuni are miniscule and autarchic, numbering no more than two or three thousand put together. And should public sentiment change, there is not a thing they could do to oppose integration into the bolstered Republic.

The Antenesian Civil War, for all intents and purposes, is over.

Admiral Catherine Double is asked to Return to deal with Sibir but its revealed she is a Double and Real Catherine is somewhere unknown. Likely to be fired for making this disaster possible.

However Emergency Broadcast activates and is directed towards Archron. Sibir.exe demands Hemlock Chan to Protect Dharkolfia its noted that Sibir.Exe is malfunctioning.

Hemlock contacted Roma stating he should go to Wolfengrad to fix this. How long will Sibir stay Sibir before he malfunctions even more and start to hurt Dharkolfians.

OORP:

Hello, welcome to THTHI!

If you wish to claim a spot on the map, please send me or another one of the Cartographers (The Atomic Schism and Northern New Solingarch) a telegram saying where you'd like to be.

(Also, for future reference, please put "OORP" (short for "out of roleplay") before any non-rp messages, and "RP" before any RP post you write. It may seem odd, but it makes things easier to keep track of)

As part of the global war on leftism, the Sol Invictus recently authorized the International Security Division, the Sol Imperiums department of subversive affairs, to begin a prolonged effort to push East Kowens populace towards the right-wing ideals of national strength and capitalism. As part of this, a group of roughly 50 ISD agents have been deployed to the area to make contacts with locals willing to help and to set up a radio station for the dissemination of right-wing ideas. As aprt of this, Atraland has reached out to Artaecus requesting to open embassies in both Incheon and East Kowen.

RP (Secret except to Woleve Atraland and Artaecus)
The International Security Division agents are quite pleased at first to see how many locals are willing to help and spread right wing and nationalist ideals to the East Kowenian population, with a few small right wing groups already being established before the Atralandians came in. Although the agents note that the right wing groups’ strong anti-Incheon City and also anti-Nakatoro (a Kowenian coastal city that is seen as a semiautonomous region of Schwypia) sentiments. One agent in a report back to the International Security Division described fueling the right wing movement in East Kowen as “opening up Pandora’s box” if not done carefully and how encouraging the movement can see East Kowen develop a hostility towards Nakatoro and increased aggression towards Incheon City.
RP
As East Kowen continues to gradually develop economically, the country has had a severe energy deficiency to fuel it’s growing economy. Normally the communist regime would have built numerous coal plants (since coal is a very abundant resource of the Kowenian States) to make up for the deficiency, although various political parties of East Kowen have been pushing for the expansion of nuclear power across the country pointing towards the success that is the Taedong Nuclear Power Plant, which is the largest nuclear plant not only in East Kowen, but throughout all of Kowen. The East Kowenian government though has hesitated in making a decision, a representative of the government commented on the cost of building numerous nuclear plants and the concerns of safety and it being a potential target for terrorists. “We are right now appealing the Artaecusian government for their opinion on the matter and if they will support such a move.” Said the representative in a press conference on the issue.

Antenesia

As the nation marks her tenth birthday, so too do the tides mark a shift.

Indeed, the past years have been remarkable ones. A tiny cluster of islands, inhabited by a people numbering in the tens of thousands, had thrown off the shackles of an apathetic and increasingly hostile civilization. Venturing without outside guidance into the Kalranian world, they underwent a metamorphosis. A Constitution was established, with a republican government. A census was held, elections too. They opened their shores to foreign investment and development, gained and lost their greatest ally and benefactor in Alingarch, acquired numerous friends, stood shoulder to shoulder with the titans of the world in Tau Volantis and marched as their equals under the League of Nations in Blayredeshia. For but a moment, they even held a seat on the League's Security Council. And, a few short weeks ago, the politically fractured nation was all but reunified, all without a single drop of Antenesian blood spilt.

Leading the vanguard of the movement which punched so far above their weight were personalities known and unknown. The obvious name is Luita'ani, the now nonagenarian figure who in her remarkable age now leaves Lahonas politics with an equally remarkable legacy. But to leave it at that is to sell things short. It ignores the others who brought to bear their own remarkable talents, abilities, and willpower. The diplomats who broke through culture and language barriers to pave the road ahead. The workers who toiled to better the nation as foreign resources began to trickle in. The many bureaucrats, doctors, and other men and women who began the long adjustment to an alien society with alien structures, at once familiar and so terribly foreign. And of course, the people. The thousands who steered their way through these turbulent times with a steadfast courage and will.

That is not to say all went willingly. The old ways stand strong in Antenesia, and though their banner has withered and frayed with the collapse of the Loyalists and Kuni power projection on the high seas, the Nationalists remain firm in their adherence to the traditions which held Antenesian society together throughout the centuries and millennia. They have been, and will continue to be, a force to be reckoned with in Antenesian society.

But the Nationalists are not the only ones without their leaders. As the Onahōtū administration hands the presidency to the winners of the election, Luita'ani has made clear her retirement from politics will follow. What's more, several of her most influential cabinet ministers - her adopted son Pokalemalu in particular - are expected to withdraw from the political scene.

One, however, will definitely remain.

The 2134 elections are, if nothing else, a battle of vice presidents: Aeto Tōkapa Pinaonao, first vice president and favored Internationalist candidate, and Manukula Ele'ele Hōkūpana, second vice president and torchbearer of the Nationalist movement.

Pinaonao, a man whose temperament is as humble as his perceived energy level, stands as an uncontroversial pick who is set to largely continue along the path set by the Internationalists. Though his health is reportedly declining, he nevertheless has made his desire clear to run. Notably, he has not committed to a second term, remarking "that's something to be decided when the time comes." He has also stressed the need to put politics out of mind, doing what is necessary for the nation instead of treating the presidency as a resume-builder for the next election.

His argument plays well into his rhetoric, as his opponent Hōkūpana has been widely accused of just that. The man has gained an infamy over the past four years over his purportedly incessant stonewalling of Luita'ani's agenda, and opposition to many trusted cabinet ministers. Indeed, the numbers would seem to back his dissenters up; while no one left the administration in the first term, two of the five counsels have resigned during the second. Even the Counsel of Diplomacy, Pokalemalu, known for his ability to build bridges in Antenesian politics, has reportedly had great difficulty working with him, and many suspect it to be the reason behind his imminent departure.

Saying Hōkūpana is widely hated would be objectively true, but one man's trash is another's treasure. The man enjoys great support among many of the Nationalists and rural members of society for his continued promises to distance Antenesia from the Odrelans and safeguard her against exploitation. In this, his obstinance as vice president has perhaps rewarded him, with many pointing to his record as a sign of a man who is not afraid to do what is necessary for the good of Antenesia.

But in the end, cooler heads would prevail. Despite stronger than expected support for Hōkūpana, Aeto Tōkapa Pinaonao has won the election with a steady majority, with 57% against Pinaonao's 43%. While still being a multi-digit margin, the election has again demonstrated the ever-increasing polarization of Antenesia's politics, as the Nationalists continue to narrow the gap between themselves and their Internationalist competitors.

However, the legislature has seen an interesting development. With the assemblies bolstered by the admittance of many formerly Loyalist atolls into the Republic, a new faction has emerged. Comprised largely of the new atolls, the self-described "Traditionalists" have gained several seats, even breaking the Internationalist majority in the Regional Assembly. This new group has made the preservation of traditional Antenesian culture their cause, causing notable overlap with the Nationalist base.

However, the group is far from cohesive. While there is broad agreement in not losing their identity in the face of foreign presence and a unifying desire to preserve tradition and a distrust of said foreigners, the faction is otherwise a coalition of divergent interests and opinions. Among the old and landed, some still call for isolationism and renewed contact with the Kuni. Yet a group of moderates consider this delusional, and in awareness of the current geopolitical realities have branded themselves as a reasonable alternative to the nationalists. This "White Wing", standing against the "Black Wing" of the more extreme pro-Kuni members, focus more on the devolution of power to local authorities and the raising of tariffs and restrictions on foreign products to protect Antenesian markets, shunning broader foreign policy altogether.

While the Black Wing Traditionalists will likely align themselves with the Nationalists, the White Wing remains an open question. While their ideals for protection align with the nationalists, they also have shown opposition to returning to the Kuni, believing that foreign investment, albeit in restricted breadth and scope, is essential for prosperity. In this position, they will likely find themselves the tiebreaker of many a dispute.

Antenesia's first decade may forever be the cast in which new generations are molded, but that cast is still very much malleable. And as the old faces go, new ones shall rise to take their place, and guide Antenesia along their own course.
