The Fourth Sovereign CharterBoard

If I could have everyone's attention for a moment, I have an announcement.

In the past few weeks, the Sovereign Charter has seen the loss of many of its oldest and most experienced members, all of whom were excellent and dedicated role-players who had contributed enormously to the region over the years. All are excellent people, and many are people I’m very proud to call friends. As such, I was very troubled by the fallout surrounding the Non Verbal Consent law, and while I disagreed with the Non Verbal Consent law personally, I had hoped that it would provide stimulus of some form to a region that had seen far more activity in days past. Rome seemed genuine in his desire to try and bring life back to the Charter, and even if I didn’t necessarily agree with his approach, I came to hope that it would provide a new source of activity for the region, either in encouraging members to contribute more often, or in providing a point against which to rally a resistance.

However, it has been made abundantly clear that this was never Rome’s intention to begin with. The law was a targeted attempt to make the region unpleasant for specific people Rome disliked personally, in the hopes of making them leave. Despite his claims, Rome’s intention from the start was to force out specific people, as is made abundantly clear from the leaked conversations he had with others (which, despite his accusations, provide more than enough context to see the pattern of his intentions). As a member of a region meant to be relaxed and inclusive, this behavior is reprehensible, and completely unacceptable.

Unfortunately, given the time it has been since this has happened, it probably appeared that, by saying and doing nothing, I accepted, or even supported Rome’s actions. I do not. His behavior and attitude towards former members is nothing short of repulsive, and I was and remain disgusted by them. However, as you all know by now, the founding puppet of the region has been stolen, and I have spent the past month attempting to recover it in the hope of keeping what’s left of the region stable. I’m sorry to report I have failed; moderation has confirmed its theft, but is not allowed to recover it, and the culprit has obviously not come forward or returned it, so it appears at this point it is irrevocably lost. In an attempt to protect the region, I have ejected and banned the puppet, but I’m pretty sure whoever stole it can just undo that and move it back in, so that may end up doing nothing, unfortunately.

Now, with my last task done, I hereby resign my position as Chief Justice of the Sovereign Charter. As per the constitution, section 6.2.a, a Judicial Appointment Commission must be assembled to determine my successor, so make it a good pick. My personal recommendation is Oceanion, as he is a long-standing member with a reputation for fairness, and remains untainted by the recent catastrophe. It is my sincere hope that the region can come back from such losses as have occurred recently, but I can’t in good faith remain and appear to support a place where people consider it acceptable to use the region’s rules target and harass those they dislike personally.
