The Voyage Out IX: Probe Drop And Emoting
Dinna slowly guided the atmospheric probe’s box out of the Freight Module. The probe was named the Litmus Paper, after the Saint who apparently (probably apocryphally) invented the rifled Mandiran cannon, a special cannon no different from any other Lerodan cannon save for the fact that it was cheaper to produce and blew up more often, thus being of great use to Mandiran rebels against the monarchy. Some high up board of directors had probably felt pretty proud of themselves for managing to tie a cannon to a space probe to be burnt up in the atmosphere of a gas giant over a billion kilometers from the suns. The probe had a smooth heatshield of a pleasantly grey color, and a backshell of white and a blue cross.
“Dang this thing’s pretty,” she said.
“Ok Dinna you can return to airlock now. We’ve got her now,” the radio blubbed. She sighed and gave the probe a gentle push, and began to move back along her tether towards the airlock.

From the command deck of Hab Module 1, Lem watched as the probe gave a gentle puff of its thrusters.
“The mission briefing try and aim it into a storm if possible.”
“Surely they could have automated this thing.”
“I think we have to feed it some coordinates first.”
“Couldn’t we have done this before we unpacked it?”
“Nah...probably.”
Lem sighed.
A circular storm about the size of Sidahri broiled below. At this height, it took up a vast portion of the field of view, the great swirling clouds hundreds of kilometers high.
“All right, I’m giving the probe coords for the center of that storm. Wind speeds shouldn’t be too much of a problem,” Lem said.
Amrit messaged Eric.
“Hydroponics! How are they looking? Recovered from the CME? If not, let me know if I should ration stuff right away. 2000 calories should do it. If more rationing needed I can limit to 1800.”

Dinna breathed hard as she gripped a railing on the exterior of the airlock.
“So are you going to let me in or not!” she yelled.
“We’re cycling right now! Be patient.”
“About time as well. My air’s beginning to taste like it’s been breathed a few times.”
She winced as the airlock door slammed open silently, swinging herself sideways and down into the chamber.
Sound slowly returned as the airlock pressurized.
Twenty minutes later, on the cafeteria deck of Hab Module 1, Dinna thoughtfully stuffed some rehydrated potato tikka masala in her face.
“You need to get out there and have a good look at Atheria with your own eyes. It is stunningly beautiful. With your back to Maggie, you can almost forget you’re attached to the ship. It’s just you and that great big ball of gas. I love it. The swirls are mind boggling. My brain is telling me clouds should at most be a few miles across, but it also knows that those clouds could swallow Lerodas whole and not even ripple.”
“I think that EVA has made you all mushy,” Lem joked.
Dinna gave him a Look which had it been a cutting utensil, would have been one of those lumbermill bandsaws which can cut through a few feet of old growth redwood like soft cheese. Lem looked sheepish. Amrit was one of the few other people who had been on a spacewalk in their time around Atheria.
“Hmm… I think we should keep the Command Deck’s cupola open at all times. We can see Atheria through the floor there, not through the wall screens. After all, the crew should really see it.”
The MEV Magdalena spun slowly in the night, a glimmer of lights blinking on and off on the exterior. Over a billion kilometers away, hundreds of thousands of pairs of eyes were watching the live feed of the Atherian clouds. For the first time, Mandirans could see the intricate detail, the gentle swirls of clouds. It was a moment for raucous celebration.

Expansion of Vahric-Stiigaran Relations
Excerpt from Stiigaran State News Agency Article

...Earlier this morning, the Magisterium’s Foreign Affairs Department gave an official update regarding Stiigara’s ever developing World Relations.

It has been stated that negotiations with the Vahr of Vanhania have yielded promising developments sure to bring us and Vanhania together in cooperation and brotherhood, as we have done with our Noyatanyen neighbors to the North.

As we all know and are happy to acknowledge, the Vanhanians are currently assisting the Order in its development of the AAA, in association with Stiigara’s pledged assistance in the construction of Perun Station. It was through this association that hte doors were opened to further development of relations, of which the most recent ones details have been officially released and made publically known during a coinciding press conference held by High Chancellor Setne Vod.

As such:

- The Vanhanians have agreed to provide Scientific and Technological Consultation to Stiigaran Sceintists
- The enactment of a Free-Trade Agreement between Stiigara and Vanhania
- The Cooperative development of Military Technologies for utilization by the respective militaries of Stiigara and Vanhania
- The enactment of a Cooperative training program between Stiigaran and Vanhanian military forces, primarily based in Bekahn
- The official exchange of embassies and opening of borders to allow the free exchange of goods and services, and travel of average citizens

While these agreements are in their infancy, it is expected to yield very much productive fruit and to make the bright future that Stiigara dreams of, even closer to reality…

The Rise of a New Party
Lemon District, Mandate, Mandira
“The time has come to put an end to our subjugation! To get out from the thumb of our Mekkadon ‘allies’ and spread our wings! Towards independence! The fat cat elite have been hoarding the money, the wealth creation from our glorious nation. If I am elected to Chancellor, I promise to make our Mandiran industry prosperous, our homeland secure, and to alleviate the pain of the working poor! It is why I, Mill Door, am running for Chancellor in the year 310!” the crowd clapped wildly. The room was rather, ahem, ripe smelling, but Mill didn’t let that bother him. The vast tracts of slum areas around Mandate, with such charming names as “Lemon” and “Width” may have appeared large on a map, but were for the most part shanty towns of single story huts and lean-tos made of corrugated iron and leftover container boxes from the Mandate docks. This was how the election would be won. The tens of millions living in slums would be his audience.
“Thank you! I know you feel abandoned. You feel left behind. The rampant industrialisation and automation brought on by the Franz-Mekkadon Empire and the corrupt, complacent, arrogant MEC government,” he practically spat the words, his hand poised in mid air, single finger extended, quivering, “and they shall pay! My cabinet shall boot them out of this country! Their bases shall be expunged from the face of the planet, their troops escorted from OUR borders! Mekkadon and Reich technology is stealing our-your jobs!”
More cheering began.
• • •

After the initial rally, Mill Door lounged about in an air-conditioned three story stack in the middling bits of Mandate. Not terribly luxurious, but not slumming it either. Decidedly middle class. Perfect. Mill had grown up, like so many others, in a slum near Mandeir, a satellite city of the enormous capital. Homeschooling and a charitable company eager to gain loyalty early on had tried to provide free, albeit slow, internet to the slum. It didn’t work all that great since most didn’t have a device to connect to the internet. He had received a scholarship from Mandate University, and had eagerly snatched it up, studying economics, and later law. As industrialisation and rampant, unfettered capitalism roared through the country like wildfire, he could only help but feel left behind. His slum had been cleared in 305 to make way for new apartment blocks, and dozens of other slums were being replaced by stacks. Mill’s relatives were swept up in the great human tide of the displaced, wandering around, looking for work, wherever it might be. Mill himself struggled to keep in contact to send money from his job at an accounting firm in Madeira. But that was a story for a different time.
Now, his chief campaign coordinator, a Mr. Farsa Videshee, tapped a folder. His media outreach person was a close friend, a Mr. William
“So, the graphics design company has come up with this for our logo,” Videshee said, sliding a tablet over. The logo was simple, yet elegant. A stylised phoenix with wings curved up and in, feathers a homage to flames. It was black. Easy to distribute as well. In the center of the phoenix was a white circle, with a black border. Within the circle, was the quintessentially Mandiran Crescent and Moon.
“It’s beautiful. We need this to be front on center on the website. It’ll be catchy. I mean good lord have you seen the NPP’s logo? It’s just three stripes and no one can remember what order they’re in because they’re all different shades of blue.”
“Yes sir. We’ve got some fans sending in some songs they’ve written. Some slum bands have also composed some rally music.”
“Good good. We’ll play their music first at the rally. We must show we listen to the people.”
“310 will be the year that the Freedom and Order Party will stand to the stage!”
He only had mild concerns about the acronym, FOP, but it was pronounceable and easy to remember, which was all that mattered.
“Oh, and Farsa?”
“Yes?”

“I don’t really hate the Mekkies. They've done a lot of good for us. Cleaned up all of Cortoeke's corruption and opacity. But I know a huge amount of people do hate them. I feel bad saying that. But I will do what is necessary.”
“Very wise sir. I will keep it to myself. Do not worry.”

The Czar's Palace Part 1
Empress Halina has been intrigued and impressed of the warm welcome the Vaegir soldiers have provided to them. Her sons were looking around in awe like children looking at their new surroundings. They stood outside the plane despite the storm roaring overhead blessed from the realm of the winter goddess. As soon as the Ausrunian national anthem was done played. Halina and the twin princes greeted the ambassador with hand shakes. They talked as the ambassador led them towards the convoy and the designated car. Once inside, safe from the howling storm, the twins saw that the soldiers departed as soon as they got into the vehicle, still amazed by their uniforms. The princes were wearing different outfits that represent Ausrunian fashion and how the twins differ from each other while it has no defense to the weather, luckily the car they are being transported to the Czar's palace is nice and toasty. Their mother wore a regal and more conservative that was a deep red that represents the color of the Voclain Dynasty. The twins sat on either side of their mother as she sitted in the seat all regal like while drinking from a glass of water. Nikolai was drinking cider.

This car is quite amazing, Ambassador... The empress was struggling on what the ambassador's name was as she held onto the glass of water. Nathaniel was drinking water as well as he continued looking at Enthorr's amazing skyline.

The name is Klara, Klara Ristovski your Imperial Majesty. I was appointed by the Czar to accompany you to his palace. He is eager to discuss many topics with you and I'm surprised that you brought members of your family. While you and the Czar are negotiating, the princes can enjoy the city and explore the wonderful culture of the Vaegir people if they desire." She said with absolute confidence as she sat in front of the Ausrunian family. Klara answered question upon question the Voclain family had about the country or events concerning Vaetoria. It was only a half an hour later until they arrived to the palace, The twins were amazed by the magnificence of it's architecture that rivaled Whitehaven Palace. They both gawked at the palace as Halina seemed a bit interested. Knowing that she can't really take the sight in as she has to attend to the duty of being a diplomat and making face for the Imperial Kingdom as a whole.

Decree from the Administration
Affected Players: Valyrian freeholds New erim Franz-mekkado

Background: Some time ago one of our players, Sovaji, retired from the CoG and while doing so handed over his former lands to the above mentioned players. This event caused some questions which lead to Vanhania heading a joint rewrite of our expansion rules. The new rules were specifically developed to among other things handle this transition of Sovaji’s land. The rules can be read here:

Rules

Agreements Between People Who Are Leaving and Actives:

These are fine as long as a continuous role play is accomplished for no less than one month with at least one post a week per person at at least 500 words.

Buying Land From Others:

Nations are allowed to purchase land from one another but are limited to one hex a map update and purchased land counts to the land area limit. Land purchases require posts of at least 600 words per person. Land can not be purchased after the land area limit has been hit.

Map Updates

Without a proper roleplay post the claims will not be put on the map under any circumstance. If by chance it is done regardless of the RP status it will be considered non-canon and taken off the map on the next update. The map reflects roleplay and will be treated as such.

Expansion Limit:

There is a hard expansion limit at 26 million km2 and 5 base/cities any nation over this may no longer expand under any circumstances. They can not annex NPC nations but can counter. Land they gain in countering a NPC annex will be listed as “Liberated ‘nation name’” And reverted to unclaimed land after two map updates.

Annexing or Otherwise Gaining Land from NPCs

One can annex up to 1/2 of a NPC nations land in any 1 RP as long as it is within their area limit. But the land will not be under the consent clause and can be invaded by anyone who wishes. Land will be gained at one sector per map update. If there are more than one map update per week they will all be counted as one map update. Counters will also only be able to progress at the rate of expansion. One can not expand into NPC land if they are at or over the sector/land area limit.

What IF I Am Also Annexing The Same Nation’s Land?

Well it’s your lucky day. The only way to get more than ½ of a NPC nation is to beat out someone else who invaded the same territory.

So Now What?

NPC land which is being invaded, annexed, or otherwise taken by a nation will be labeled on the map as “Disputed Territory” for no shorter than one month. During this one month period the land is especially vulnerable for counters. Every time a nation counters the claims the one month period is reset.

After the one month (or longer depending on situation) period the NPC land will be labeled as “Your nation name - NPC nation name” Following this it will continue to be excluded from the consent clause until 6 months after the initial claim or the last counter. At the 6 month point it will become part of your nation.

Any attempt to annex NPC land will require at least 3 posts of no less than 800 words, This can be split up over multiple hexes. Counters will also require one 800 word post per sector. Following posts are not restricted.

Even after the 6 month mark if a nation who previously owned the land comes back it must be given back through a revolution roleplay or something similar.

But I am over the limit and I don't want that guy to get the land!
Well even though you are over the limit you are still free to liberate land from people who are annexing nations. This will kick them out of the area and they will either have to re annex this area or move on.

If you still want to have the thrill of annexing new land without the benefit you can clear out NPC land at a rate of one sector a map update by "Liberating" land with a 800 word RP. Liberation posts can be countered by annexations but will be treated as a counter. Liberated land will become clear land for new nations.

Read factbook

Regrettably this haven’t been followed through on. It doesn’t matter how clear/unclear Vanhania have previously been on the subject since the following is what will happen now:

Decree: As the rules regarding inheriting land from retiring players demand an RP period of 1 month, including 1 post of no less than 500 words each week for a minimum of 4 posts the following will be expected of the concerned players:
Valyrian freeholds New erim and Franz-mekkado will individually produce 3 posts on their new presence in Sovaji. Each post will be no less than 500 words and the third and final post will have to have been posted before the 30th of January.

All posts will at least once contain the word Sovaji in order to make searching for the posts easier and the affected players are expected to save the links to their posts until the completion of their RPs.

In case of failure: Any player that fails to meet these requirements, either by a lacking word-count or by a lacking number of posts, by the end date; will lose all claims on Sovaji and their part of Former Sovaji will be made into uncolonized land.

Expansion of the Western Reaches
Part 1, Annexation of Sector 0606 - "Gaskany"

“But Arch-Commander Minlara, such an action will lead to unnecessary repercussions,”complained High Chancellor Vod, banging his fist on the arm of his char, while gripping the other one with his other hand, nearly standing from his seat,” not only will it lead to building a reputation with the locals, we have no idea what the international standpoint will be. We must take time to consider our options carefully!”
“I do not need to be the one to tell you why it is absolutely necessary for us to pursue this course,” retorted the Military Supreme Leader, who had chosen to instead stand.

The two of them, along with Grandmaster Warrin, where holding a private meeting in the Grandmaster’s own private study. One decorated and designed to cater to such an important person’s duties. The Grandmaster had summoned his two deputies there to discuss Stiigara’s policy, and it of course lead to Stiigara’s future plans of expansion. With little elsewhere to go, Minlara had mentioned the possibilities of expansion into the former territories of the fallen state of Katha, and their policy for moving into the area.

High Chancellor Vod, of course, combated his counterpart’s opinions, and it quickly devolved into a yelling match, where the Grandmaster simply sat there with his chin resting on his clasped fists.

“No, I insist,” yelled the High Chancellor,” explain to me why we must.”
“Are you truly so blind, Setne,” Minlara asked,” have you forgotten the ideals that our Order was founded upon?! To help the downtrodden and bring Peace, Prosperity, Order, Law, and Justice to those without. What place within our immediate reach that necessitates such action than the Remnants of Katha. A War torn and fragmented region where little but former military Generals place themselves as Warlords and Communities rely upon their own resources to survive!”
“But what you propose is drastic,” said Setne,” You want to establish a Police State where those who even speak out about our presence are punished, or worse! Not to mention the virtual ABDUCTION of their children! How can you support that!?”
“Because I know what needs to be done to secure a brighter future as loyal citizens of Stiigara and of the Order,” again retorted Minlara, turning to stare menacingly at the High Chancellor,” these are a people whose society was lead down a wrong path resulting in its own destruction. It is our duty as the Order and as Zelerics, to do what we can to set them on a better one. And that will require sacrifices, High Chancellor! Sacrifices. To facilitate an easier shift from a living based upon fear and paranoia, we must silence and punish that which will do harm. As for the ‘Abduction’ of children. Of course YOU would result to such an easy description. It will not be abduction. It will be liberation. Liberation from a society and culture built upon xenophobic practices. What better place to correct a society’s path than its children? They will be provided a free and quality education where they can grow up in a caring and productive environment and where they can learn Stiigaran philosophy and custom.”
“That still does not make it right, Arch-Commander!”
“Yes it does,” snapped Minlara finally,” what justifies your believing it is wrong?! All you do is play the grand waltz of politics, dancing around foreign dignitaries and acting as an intermediary between Magisters. Who was it that stopped the Anarchists who would see the foundations of our society ripped out from under us? Who was it that facilitated the provision of resources for our Shaekalk friends so that we could gain their help in obtaining resources of our own? Who was it, that organized every single relief from disaster effort in this countries most recent history of the past thirty years? Me! So you are NOT qualified to know what is best to do in such situations! You are nothing but a bureaucratic worm unlike any other uncivilized and unfaithful one!”
“How dare yo-”
“Enough,” finally yelled the Grandmaster, standing from his seat and slamming his hands down on his desk,” both of you enough!”

The two, unbeknownst to them, had gotten extremely close to one another and had clenched fists, almost seeming to come to blows

“Yes, Grandmaster,” they both said, separating themselves and sitting back into their own chairs, giving each other particularly threatening looks in the process.
“Now, I understand what both of your opinions are, but petty argument and resorting to blows will not resolve anything,” he continued,” Now, I do believe it is in the best interests of the Kathan people, as well as those of Stiigara, that we gradually expand into, and annex former Kathan lands, and I am inclined to believe that the best course of action is the one proposed by Min-”
“But Grandmaster,” protested Setne.
“Silence,” hissed Warrin, glaring at the High Chancellor,” as I was saying before I was interrupted, the best course of action is the one proposed by Minlara. However, it is also in the best interests of all those involved to try and do our best to work with whatever Kathan communities are brought into the fold and make sure that everything goes smoothly. If not… than those who do not comply with Order wishes will be punished. If we want to making a much more lasting impact, than it is in the best interest to provide for the education and general well being of the children. Adult minds are harder to mold properly than those of children, so they will have to learn of their own accord to cooperate. Arch-Commander Minlara… you will oversee that everything goes smoothly. I expect Enforcers in the Gaskany region by the end of the week and working to bring it in Now both of you… Get. Out.”

The Grandmaster turned around and clasped his hands behind his back to stare out the large windows to the Citadel Gardens and the Silmarata skyline outside the Citadel’s own walls.

“Yes, Grandmaster,” said the two silently, and with a final glare at one another, left.

Outside Kanagawa City, Mekkadon Sovaji
The air was quiet, silent, like the hot, thick air of the summer jungles in the south of the Empire. But this was no jungle, rather, a thick layer of cool fog sat squat above the ground. The fog was dense like milk and washed over everything, seemingly slowing movement to a standstill with its infinite volume. Through the fog, one could make out the hazy shape of a hulking building, replete with towers, and issuing the quiet buzz of activity, and, more noticeably, the thrum of heavy-duty electrical equipment. Wrapped around the building was an electrified razor-wire fence, several meters high. Behind that, a thick concrete wall that concealed the inner layer of the complex. On the roof of the complex sat several defense, including massive multi-spectral arrays for tracking, massive electromagnets to deflect projectiles, and several dozen railguns and lasers. None of this, of course, could been seen on this day, as the thick fog smothered the view and kept the defenses shrouded in darkness and mystery.

Contrary to the quiet, peaceful fog on the outside, the inside of the building was alight with activity. It seemed every person had a place to scramble to or from, carrying some important thing or another. Many of them wore the plain, unnotable garb of servants or general staff, but, among those rushing around, were also men and women wearing military dress uniform, and, even more notably, those who wore the fine, regal clothing of royalty.

Today was a very important day for everyone in the building. It was the coronation of Lucius Tullus Franzcian IV, a member of the House Mekkado, but, also, a direct descendant of the legendary 7 kings of the first Kingdom of Franzcia. They were all known by heart among the Mekkadons, as the founders of what they today knew as civilization. In some ways, Lucius’ name held more prestige than even the emperor, who, while a direct male descendant of the first Mekkadons, had only minor lineage from the Franzcians. Lucis, as a direct descendent under all male lineage, could’ve been, in another time, a king or an emperor, one of which he would become today. However, instead of a high royal birth, he was born into the Franzcian branch of House Mekkado, and dedicated his life to serving the emperor, who had now asked him to serve in Sovaji.

So today was his coronation as the king of Mekkadon Sovaji, a prestigious title fit for a man of his lineage. He personally, sat in a small antechamber behind the newly-built throne room of his new castle (the building wore the term loosely), and waiting patiently for the preparations to be completed. At that point, he would begin donning traditional Franzcian coronation garb, another special event, as, while all royal families in the Empire took inspiration from Franzcian coronations, no pure-blooded Franzcian had been coronated in 500 years. The dress was truly magnificent. Every inch of the clothing was hand-made, with the absolute highest quality fabrics and materials. It had been made 800 years ago, for the man from whom he got his name, and, coincidentally, the last Franzcian emperor beloved by the people. He wore layers of silks and fabrics, beneath which was a plain, military-style outfit, and all of it covered by a fine fur coat that was more the size of a blanket that a cape. All in all, the clothes expressed the epitome of clout and affluence.

A runner came to tell him it was time for him to start dressing. His coronation was about to begin.

Nahull, Atlexil
The mood in Nahull was lively and energetic as thousands of its citizens roamed the streets in either grandiose costumes, or plain clothes spinning noisemakers and waving miniature versions of the nation’s noble flag. Massive colorful floats made their way towards the Chancellery while passing by the joyful revelers. As the floats made their way closer and closer towards the Chancellery already a grand crowd had assembled below the towering yet benevolent structure waiting, for the Chancellor to make his appearance.

Sweat was dribbling down the forehead; of Chancellor Neville Stanhope as he mentally prepared himself to address the crowd that had gathered below the Chancellery. He heard their barely muffled cheering and chanting as he stepped closer to the ornate balcony doors. ’Well, no time like the present.’ he thought nervously while hesitantly pulling the knobs of Rothe pine before stepping onto the balcony.

The crowd below him roared joyously as he made his way towards the microphone-laden balustrade. He waved briefly before politely making a gesture of silence towards the crowd and began to speak. “My fellow Atlexilians! We have gathered here on this most joyous, and historic day to mark the beginning of a new chapter in our history. Today is the day that we end our isolation and open our borders to the entirety of Lerodas! This day will be remembered as the beginning, of a greater and powerful Atlexil! Future generations will savor the fruits of an open nation, and relish prosperity that will be given to them!” He punctuated the last sentence with a slammed fist, and the once roaring crowd soon became akin to a grand thunderstorm which then intensified after a firework exploded into the sky becoming a sparkling flag of the republic. It slowly faded away leaving nothing, but a trace of faint shimmering glitter.

Here you go :)

  1. Write your Introduction or Expansion post. All posts to change the map needs to be at least 600 words. Utilize the ‘Preview’ function to make sure that you have a bold title. Any Expansion post should contain the sector name so that the map maker knows where you are expanding. Post it once you are done.

  2. Return to your country’s main page and scroll down to National Happenings. The top happening will be the latest thing that have happened to your nation and if you went here right after having posted your RP the message should be like this:

X minutes ago: [YOUR NATION] lodged a message on the The Coalition of Governments Regional Message Board.
