This is really the only region I know where government officials always want to actively meddle in the rp without them even participating.

How come?

Well, as I've said, we're ready to defy the law if needed. So whatever they do, if we don't want it, we don't want it.

Bois, I would like to announce that I am suing Marv for heresy. He disregarded Godsinia and refused to join the #FlameGang. Shame!

Official Campaign Announcement

What's something we can all agree is terrible? The Thaecian Senate!

That's right. It barely debates bills, it only just has enough active members to achieve quorum, and its been like this for months. Something has to change.

That is why I'm going to become a Senator - to sort the place out. I have some bold ideas for reforms that will improve the quality of debate and the levels of activity in Thaecia's Congress by stripping power from the Senate. Chief amongst them is unicameralism, which will remove the incapable Senate entirely. But I do have some other ideas for reform as well. Check them out in my official campaign dispatch:

Fishergate for Senate

About Me

An Experienced Leader

Three terms in Congress, four months in government.

I have spent six months as a legislator in Thaecia’s House of Commons, including four months as the chamber’s Speaker. Additionally, I have served for one four-month term in government as Thaecia’s Interior Minister. This experience has given me a vast understanding of Thaecia’s political system, especially of its problems and how we can fix them.

A Committed Contributor

12 months a Thaecian, never an absentee.

I have been in Thaecia for a whole year and throughout that time I have been an active member of our political society. I never missed a vote during my six months in Congress and I always endeavour to keep in touch with as many Thaecians as possible. I will never let the voters down by being inactive.

My Policies

Ambitious Reform

Thaecia needs some fresh ideas. I have plenty to offer.

Thaecia’s political system is tired. Congress is rarely able to remain functional for a whole term, which often leaves the executive branch high and dry, unable to make reforms without a legislature to pass them. As a Senator, I will push for a number of reforms to help improve the productivity of Thaecia’s legislative system:

  • Unicameralism: Thaecia needs to finally hold its unicameralism referendum. If this is successful, I will help lead the reforms and legislative processes needed to implement a single-chamber Congress that works for Thaecia.

  • Senate reforms: My first choice is to abolish the Senate. But if the voters reject unicameralism, I will instead focus my effort on reforming the Senate. The current bicameral system is a mess of randomly distributed powers. As a Senator I will push to take powers away from the Senate and transfer them to the House of Commons, establishing a clear legislative hierarchy in which the Senate will serve as a check and balance without exercising its own unique powers. As part of this reform I would support a redistribution of seats, increasing the size of the House and decreasing the Senate.

  • House of Commons reforms: Whether it will be the senior chamber in a bicameral system, or the sole chamber of a unicameral one, the House ought to be reformed. I will support the adoption of legislative committees in the House, which will be made more plausible by increasing the size of the chamber. Committees will promote greater scrutiny of legislation and give MPs more opportunity to influence bills, which will encourage activity. They will also help productivity by allowing the House to work on several different bills or hearings simultaneously in the various committees, while the House as a whole can focus on bills that have passed the committee stage.

Pragmatic Politics

Democracy does not work without compromise. I won’t shy away from it.

I realise that my proposed reforms will not be popular with everyone, and I do not expect to get my way with everything. For this reason, I will be eager to work with any other legislators, government ministers, or members of the public to find a common ground. Some reform is better than no reform, so while I appreciate there may not be a majority of support for unicameralism or for taking powers away from the Senate, I am optimistic that Congress will be able to find compromises that take us in the right direction. I will never turn my back on those who disagree with me.

As I've joined the campaign quite late, I unfortunately missed the first couple of debates. With this in mind, I encourage anyone to send me their questions and I'll answer them in a public forum. Like my own mini-town hall.

I also encourage anyone who wishes to endorse my campaign to send me a message letting me know.

Thank you all for your time, now lets go fix our legislature!

To point one: I know that. I just wanted to question you on why you did that in the first place, especially if you knew it was false.
Then, why the need for such things? Unions will not directly undercut the power of political parties, because the way you present them (and how we understand its practice) makes us think of some sort of lobby united for one and same thing, which is actually not the case. When it comes to the civil list, I don't understand the "spread the wealth" argument. As for getting new people involved, we only need to get the welcoming & counseling departments on this. That's their job, after all, get new people involved.
To point two: Problem is that sure residents can put their names on such a list, but, is there really a need for that? When a ministry, a department, an office or a non-governmental organization needs more people, they simply do an announcement. This would not change even if this Civil List exists, because people in it may not want to do such work. Except if you plan on doing an extremely expansive detailing of what person on the list is available to do some work, keeping the old system is better. I think you really need to explain this idea now because it seems really confusing at the moment.

To point three:When you were on discord, we were in the middle of complete reforms & the passage into season 3. I can assure you that season 5 also suffered some launching problems at the beginning, it's normal. And for the RP, I already have a large staff performing tasks from rule enforcement, economy management to technology integration & plenty of other things. I'm only here to do the same things and act as a tie-breaker. :)
As for creating a union for the roleplay, I'll tell you right now: there's no use. A huge portion of the roleplay does absolutely not care about anything happening in the political game, for the citizens. Only Brototh & I do actually. Some others like Rhyssua care but don't take part in the political gameplay. So it is completely useless to create one.

Moreover, as I've said before, any union (outside the roleplay) would face problems such as different opinions, with maybe some agreeing with what the legislator do and some not agreeing. I know you said that this isn't even in the draft phase, but if so, why presenting us this idea? Why would we vote for theoretical policies?

Don't get me wrong, this idea can be great, depending on how it is done. if we take a look at our working group (basically the people who helped in writing my platform and who support these ideas), such thing created for several topics could turn more into some sort of debate checkpoints about one main issue (Example: as you said, diplomacy). But again, we face the problem that you no having discord is. That's why I have problems to envisage how this would work.

To point four: Every ministerial job is done on discord, that's what I wanted to explain to you by saying this. That you and your activity won't be able to be behind the PM's administration to oversee such a process.

To point five: I just wanted to correct something in your platform. It's not a real argument against you, just a comment on your wording and what it reflects on your character. :P

That's just populist talk, currently realistically speaking the roleplay can only be regulated by the government if a law is passed regulating it. The idea that we can make a law to protect it makes no sense, seeing as if there was majority support to regulate it (and there was no protection) a law would be passed regulating it, while if there was protection in law anyone wanting to regulate it would just repeal the law and get the regulations through anyway.

Right lets go there, all you have done is try to intrude on the RP with ZERO knowledge of how it works. And if you want to discuss your issues with me, I'm more than happy to do so.

I literally want to leave the Roleplay to the roleplayers.

And I don’t particularly feel like debating issues right now, because I’m sick, tired, and overworked. What I WILL say is that you’re not one to talk. You once told me and Cerd that our court case was libel. You ran the E.C. into the ground, thank GOD we had Terentiland to clean up your mess. You left the region over an issue you weren’t even involved in. I’m hardly the insane one.

I left the E.C. because Xernon had made me feel unable to continue in that job, he even REJECTED my nominating Terentiland as the Deputy Commissioner. I worked my flaming socks off in the E.C. and whats more, you didn't see how overworked it made me, so get off of your high horse already. Was the mess that happened at the time of my leaving a contributing factor? Yes it was. It almost ruined me. I have spoke to few in Thaecia about this but I may as well do now. I had serious mental health issues in January and it is people like YOU who made it worse with their cavalier attitude demanding things from me, not accounting for potential irl factors in my life.

USE. I never, never, ever, want anybody to have mental health problems because of this site or myself. I’m going to leave the topic alone due to that last sentence in your post. That does not mean I’m done with this topic, but for now I’m going to let it be, because despite disagreeing with you on almost everything, I recognize that you are a human being. Good night to you.
