Biden has been stabbing Caesar in the back ever since the movers and shakers in the DNC's ivory tower forced him out in favor of Kamala. That moment where someone gave him a MAGA hat, he put it on and then asked if he could keep it was classic.
However, there was no way Joe was not going to pardon Hunter. The Bidens cannot afford to have any prosecutor squeezing Hunter. Not even a "friendly" prosecutor under Kamala. In fact, they can't even risk Hunter taking short vacation in federal prison. Hunter knows way too much and he is spineless.
The only thing that surprised me is the timing. Most of these things happen in the last few days of the term. This came down late on the Sunday night of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Monday is a workday for the press, all of whom will be looking for something new to yammer on about. That makes for poor media timing. I was kind of thinking it might come down around Christmas as gift to a recovering son. That would have been easier to sell, but not by much.

What I cannot understand is why you would stick up for this clown. This is especially true when the difference between your typical run of the mill, end of term pardons and Hunter's pardon could not possibly be more distinct.
So is it to be expected that a storm of "you can't do that coming" from the left when Trump pardons J6 people still in prison ass well as Daniel Penny.
I know you know this, but thought I'd add a clarifying point. Biden isn't covering anything himself, nor is he calling the shots. As has been the case throughout most of his presidency and even his campaign leading up to it, his handlers (Jill? et al) have dictated what he does and what shows up on his teleprompter.
As for the associated link you shared regarding these "preemptive pardons", if Biden were deciding who should get them, I wouldn't be terribly worried. I don't fully understand how that's supposed to work, but I don't like the idea of having a list of people who hate both Trump and the USA, having a status of "above the law" for federal crimes. That's how I interpret what they are trying to do, but hope I am wrong about that.
The Politico author mentions "Trump's repeated threats" without any references. While I know I don't sit glued to the tv and other media outlets to hear everything he says, I don't believe I have heard such at all. Instead, I see a man who appears to be attempting to close the glaring gap we have in this country of a lucid and viable Executive Branch even before he's inaugurated, and so far, the world stage appears to be accepting that and working directly with him.
