National Handwriting Day

If you keep a journal or a hand-written to-do list, you probably appreciate the tactile pleasures and slower pace of writing by hand. Although it may seem quaint in a world full of digital devices and voice-to-text apps, handwriting is an important skill that can help sharpen your brain, slow the frenetic pace of your thoughts, and improve your memory. National Handwriting Day is observed on January 23, the birthday of John Hancock — the first man to sign the Declaration of Independence. His autograph became so famous that we now commonly use ‘John Hancock’ as another term for ‘signature.’

HISTORY OF NATIONAL HANDWRITING DAY
Writing, the element that separates prehistory from history, is a key skill that elevates human civilization and allows us to communicate and trade on a large scale. Writing not only lets us record our thoughts and feelings but, more crucially, for the development of early societies, it gives us a way to record transactions, count items, and pass on information to future users.

The true origins of writing are murky, but we know it arose independently in several regions of the ancient world, from Meso-America to China, India, and Mesopotamia, starting around 3400 B.C. The earliest-known writings come from present-day Iraq, pictorial signs that were later replaced with a complex system of characters based on the sounds of the Sumerian language known as cuneiform.

Writing systems differ in their construction. Some rely on pictorial symbolism, others combine characters to form new meanings, and some use grammatical structures to create full sentences and depth of meaning. Alphabet-based writing systems use symbols to represent consonants, vowels, or syllable sounds, while semanto-phonetic writing systems have symbols that represent both sounds and meanings.

Handwriting has many purposes in utility and record-keeping, correspondence, literature, and art. Calligraphy, the art of decorative lettering, elevates writing to an exquisite art form. Examples of traditional calligraphy include ancient Chinese bronze ware, Mayan hieroglyphs, Western European illuminated manuscripts, and Islamic mosque inscriptions.

Although in today’s digital world we tend to record everything on electronic devices, research shows that writing things down by hand has benefits that typing does not. Writing by hand can improve focus, reduce stress, and aid with memory. Not to mention, a handwritten note or letter carries more weight than typed or emailed correspondence. Try writing a letter, a diary entry, or a to-do list by hand and notice the difference for yourself!

NATIONAL HANDWRITING DAY FAQS
Do kids still learn to write in cursive?

In much of the United States and Canada, schools no longer require that students learn to write in cursive.

Is handwriting analysis a real thing?
Handwriting analysis, or graphology, is generally considered a pseudoscience. Although it can provide some clues in certain situations, like identifying forgeries, there is no proven link between handwriting styles and personality traits or psychological states.

How can I improve my handwriting?
Like any other skill, good handwriting just takes practice. If you want some examples, you can find worksheets online, or just use some lined paper to practice your own unique style.

NATIONAL HANDWRITING DAY ACTIVITIES
Practice your calligraphy

Have you ever tried to create calligraphy art, or even used a fountain pen? Look up an online tutorial or sign up for a calligraphy class to try your hand at this relaxing and beautiful hobby.

Write a letter to a friend or relative
Communication happens lightning fast nowadays. Take a few minutes to write a handwritten note to a friend or family member. Send it to them the old-fashioned way.

Start a journal[b]
Writing down your thoughts and feelings can have tremendously positive effects on your mood and mental health. Try starting a daily handwritten journal to record your experiences, aspirations, and the everyday happenings that inspire you.

[b]5 NOTEWORTHY FACTS ABOUT HANDWRITING
Handwritten notes are more effective

People who write notes by hand tend to be more selective in what they write down, focusing on the most important concepts and organizing their notes more effectively.

Handwriting keeps the mind sharp
Writing by hand engages motor skills and various parts of the brain and memory. Doctors recommend taking up a hobby that involves handwriting to keep the mind sharp.

Handwriting reduces linked distractions
When you write by hand away from the computer, you’re less likely to get distracted by social media, email, or the internet.

Handwriting is therapeutic
The mere act of writing by hand can have a calming, therapeutic effect. Additionally, writing down thoughts and feelings can liberate a chaotic mind and help reduce anxiety and stress.

Writing it down can help you get it done
Studies show that those who write down their goals, especially by hand, are more likely to achieve them. Writing things down can help you clarify your goals and hold yourself accountable.

WHY WE LOVE NATIONAL HANDWRITING DAY
Handwriting rewires our brain

Handwriting forces our brain to slow down to the pace of our pen, letting us take more time with our thoughts and reduce anxiety and overthinking.

Handwriting can be a work of art
A beautiful piece of calligraphy can be a lovely decoration. Try it yourself, or purchase a piece from a local calligraphy artist.

It’s good for our memory
Studies show that students who write notes by hand tend to remember and understand concepts better than students who type notes.

Macintosh Computer Day

Macintosh Computer Day, celebrated on January 24, celebrates the same day in 1984 when the very first Macintosh computer, the predecessor of today’s Apple computers, was introduced to the public. Macintosh broke into the consumer market as the alternative option to other computers, ushering in a new age of freedom and creativity, and continues to be the preferred system for creatives and techies across the globe.

HISTORY OF MACINTOSH COMPUTER DAY
The Macintosh project began in 1979 when Jef Raskin, an Apple employee, proposed a user-friendly, cost-effective computer for the average consumer. He wanted to name the computer the McIntosh, after his favorite type of apple, but the spelling was changed to “Macintosh” for legal reasons. In September 1979, Raskin was permitted to start hiring for the project and he on-boarded his long-time colleague, Brian Howard. Later on, he would hire Steve Jobs as project lead, sealing the future of Apple computers in technological history. However, in a 2013 interview, Steve Wozniak implied that he had led the initial design and development phase of the Macintosh project. He temporarily left the company after experiencing a traumatic airplane crash in 1981, at which point Jobs took over. In that same interview, Wozniak stated that the original Macintosh ‘failed’ under Jobs and that it was not until Jobs left that it became a success. He credited the Macintosh’s ultimate success to people like John Sculley “who worked to build a Macintosh market when the Apple II went away.” Reaching a 300 million valuation almost overnight, Apple became the fastest-growing company in U.S. history. With over 50 companies salivating for a bite of the Apple, one company stood out above the rest — IBM. And so began one of the most ruthless rivalries in corporate history as many promising competitors drastically fell by the wayside.

Macintosh continued in a formidable battle against IBM, but decades later Apple would take over the industry with the introduction of iPhones and iMacs in one of the biggest and longest emerging comebacks in the history of any industry.

Vincent's Sunday Surprise Beverage Bonanza

Howdy Dudes and Dudettes of Texas!

Today's Sunday Surprise Beverage is Make - Your - Own - Beverage Day! I've got lots of Large Boxes full of drink making ingredients stacked up right here and I'm going to beam them directly into the home of every Texan in Texas. Everyone will receive a Large Box and it'll materialize on the table closest to you. With all the drink ingredients in your box you can make Non Alcoholic Sangria (Sangria Mocktail), Jamaican Sorrel Drink and Pineapple and makrut lime crush. There's enough ingredients to make 3 glasses of each drink. You can keep the Instructional Guide CD as my gift to you:

Make Your Own Beverage Drink Making Guide:

Pineapple and makrut lime crush

When blending drinks in your blender always add your ice at the end so it doesn't jam up the blender. Also if you've got alcohol in your house and you desire an alcoholic drink just mix your own booze into the beverages.

And today I've included a large container full of a dozen Low-carb turkey wraps. Made with turkey slices, spinach, and cheese, these light and tasty turkey wraps are great for lunch or you can turn them into snacks by chilling them and slicing them into smaller, bite sized rounds!

I hope y'all enjoy today's Sunday Surprise Snack and Beverages. Yeehaw! :)

National Spouses Day

National Spouses Day is finally here! Other than Valentine’s Day, this is the only worldwide holiday that gives couples a chance to spoil each other, to take time out of their busy schedules, and to tend to their love. It’s a chance to celebrate your spouse and show your better half that they are indeed appreciated. Let’s admit, sometimes married couples need reminders to leave the hamster wheel that is everyday life. January 26 however is the remedy to all couples’ woes. Though the day is named National Spouses Day and seemingly refers to married couples only, nowadays, this day can also be linked to many people who are not married. What’s better than feeling appreciated by your soulmate? So, let’s celebrate happiness on this love filled day.

HISTORY OF NATIONAL SPOUSES DAY
The origin of National Spouses Day is unknown, but it is assumed that a married person came up with the idea. Some say it originated from the establishment of Military Spouses Day which was created in 1984, but only started becoming popular around the millennium. The day is celebrated as a national holiday on January 26 officially in the USA and UK, but many other countries celebrate it too.

The foundation of this day derives from the idea of showing thanks to your partner. Some workplaces even encourage couples to go on leave to celebrate the day and spend some quality time with their spouses.

Unlike Valentine’s day, this is a day created for giving time rather than gifts and celebrating your spouse. Due to this, couples are encouraged to spend alone time and to reflect on their journey so far. Scientific research has shown that twenty minutes of holding hands with your partner or cuddling even, can release hormones that leaves you both happier and feeling good. In turn, this relieves stress and makes you feel closer to one another.

National Spouse Day has become well known for igniting many media sources to survey couples’ behaviors and relationships and has managed to find out many interesting facts. This includes the fact that two million people get married every year in the U.S alone. Also, that 17% of them have previously been married.

Many couples have expressed feeling as though life can get too busy, and so a day like National Spouse Day is key to revitalizing relationships at the start of the new year. Others feel that your spouse should be celebrated everyday, but that an official day to commemorate your husband or wife is also seen as an honor.

"By tragic coincidence, the anniversaries of NASA’s three worst disasters all fall in a short span of the calendar. January 27: Apollo 1 (1967) took the lives of Gus Grissom, Ed White, and Roger Chaffee during a routine preflight test. January 28, 1986: Challenger STS-51L claimed astronauts Dick Scobee, Michael Smith, Gregory Jarvis, Christa McAuliffe, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, and Judith Resnick, when their spaceship exploded shortly after launch. February 1, 2003: The crew of Columbia STS-107. Rick Husband, William McCool, Michael Anderson, David Brown, Kalpana Chawla, Laurel Clark, and Ilan Ramon lost their lives when their ship disintegrated during re-entry. We are profoundly grateful for their work and their sacrifice in the name of human progress and exploration. Ad astra per aspera.
The Spaceflight Memorial Emblem honors all three crews. It hangs on the wall of Mission Control at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, next to the mission patches for Apollo 1, Challenger 51L and Columbia 107."

National Fun at Work Day

As if Fridays couldn’t get any better around the office, National Fun at Work Day falls on the last Friday of January! Whether you work for a small office or a large organization, injecting fun into the workplace is a great way to bond with coworkers, boost team morale, gain inspiration, and even increase productivity. National Fun at Work Day was created to foster happiness and humor in the office and bring employees together. So, rally your coworkers and bosses and brainstorm ways to best celebrate. From parties, potlucks, goodies, games, awards, and more, there’s no wrong way to celebrate National Fun at Work Day — you just need to bring the fun!

HISTORY OF NATIONAL FUN AT WORK DAY
Boosting team morale with fun in an effort to reach a shared goal is a timeless method that has been used by chiefs, commanders, and rulers for centuries. From inspiring speeches to motivating songs, smart leaders seek to create a fun work environment that increases efficiency. Modern methods for achieving this goal range from company retreats and team building exercises to offsite parties and office perks.

National Fun at Work Day encourages a break from the monotony of the work day with a dose of fun all within office walls — no need to plan an elaborate field trip! Not sure fun belongs in the workplace? Think again. Evidence shows that when employees are happy, organizations thrive. Specifically, happy employees are more productive, successful, and loyal than unhappy employees. Not to mention, happy employees are less stressed and take fewer sick days than their unhappy coworkers.

Regardless of your office’s culture, no one is immune from falling into a work routine, feeling stressed, or prioritizing work over relationships and other passions. National Fun at Work Day is a great opportunity to inject fun into your workplace, reconnect with coworkers, foster new relationships with team members, relax and recharge, and above all, have fun!

If you’re still worried about taking a break during the workday, you never know what ideas, inspiration, or connections will occur when you take the time to engage in office fun. National Fun at Work Day is all about boosting employee happiness and promoting a better work/life balance. No matter how you choose to spend National Fun at Work Day, the end result is definitely worth celebrating!

Organize a chili cookoff
Food is always a great way to bond and have fun with coworkers. Post a signup sheet for employees who want to contribute chili, and others can bring sides, refreshments, and desserts. While enjoying the potluck, have the office vote on their favorite chili, and present the winner with a prize.

Play guess who trivia

Companies get better results when coworkers like and respect each other. This holiday is the perfect way to encourage bonding in the workplace.

It supports the “work hard, play hard” motto
Sure, work is hard — sometimes it’s a pain, sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s just plain boring — but it’s important to strike a balance between working hard and having fun. National Fun at Work Day supports the goal of establishing a happy work environment.

We don't yet know what the enlisted ranks will physically look like, but every branch uses the same insignia for officers. Space Force is an offshoot of the Airforce not Navy so they're not likely to use naval ranks. They're in charge of missiles and satellites not space fleets

The fatherless children... Should be naval all the way for the days when they have interplanetary ships with large crews.

P.S. Pineapple on Pizza is a communist plot designed to subvert the American way.
