Whew, back home from St. Louis. Had an awesome trip.

The Arch is pretty much an amazing architectural structure, eh IE? One of the 7 Wonders of America!

Anyone care to make nominations for the other 6? We could then make a Poll for The Best.

The Hoover Dam & Golden Gate Bridge would be on my list of Man made wonders in America.

Oh, good clarification - man-made - becuase we immediately thought of the Grand Canyon and Mount Rushmore as soon as we pushed the button. Now Mount Rushmore is an interesting case - does that count as "man-made"? And what about the Twin Towers? Do they no longer count?

I think we could count mount rushmore. Grand Canyon was natural though. It might also be cool to add the Statue of Liberty and the Liberty Bell.

Yes, it was incredible. Felt like we were leaning over the city.

The current Security Council resolution is:

"Commend Guy"

Oddly enough, this resolution reads:

{{{"Recalls that in 2009, Guy joined 10000 Islands and within a short period of time received one of the highest honours of TITO, becoming a TITO Knight. In addition to this esteemed honour, Guy served two terms as 10ki Senator and one term as WA Delegate.

Observes that during Guy’s service as Delegate of 10000 Islands, Guy led efforts to collaborate with World Assembly resolution authors and clearly delineated the position of 10000 Islands’ WA nations on major topics before the consideration of the World Assembly. This watershed moment facilitated the greater engagement of subsequent 10000 Islands Delegates with the NationStates Forums and resolution authors, with the region quickly becoming a leading voice on World Assembly matters."}}}

And yet when you actually look at the nation itself, you find it is now in The Rejected Realms, the place where nations go when they are expelled from any other region. So if Guy was kicked out of 10000 Islands, why mention its achievements there nearly a decade later?

Therefore I will vote AGAINST this resolution.

So at the moment we have the following, in no particular order.

1. St Louis Arch

2. Mt Rushmore

3. Statue of Liberty

4. Hoover Dam

5. Golden Gate Bridge

6. Twin Towers?

7. Liberty Bell?

The Liberty Bell is not architecture per say, and the Twin Towers no longer exist. Any Texans have an opinion on the last two entries and other possible additions? I was thinking we could generate a list and then over a few polls come up with our top 7.

The Liberty Bell isn't much of a wonder. Apart from its historical significance, it's actually pretty boring. And the Twin Towers are more significant historically than architecturally. They were actually pretty bland.

I'd maybe include Central Park and the Lincoln Memorial in their place. Both are pretty awe-inspiring.

Trecdom2 wrote:Do not take Medicine X if you are allergic to Medicine X.

No duh Sherlock, do we really need a warning for that in the commercial. If I'm allergic, I won't ask my doctor for it or they should know better than to prescribe it in the first place.

You can thank the United States Civil Court system for that announcement. An honorable mention probably goes out to one or two lawyers as well.

Safj wrote:I saw that same commercial. I'm actually opposed to advertisements for prescription drugs. Studies have shown that they can lead people to make medical decisions that are not in their best interest by choosing drugs that are well-known but potentially less affective and more harmful.

I'd be interested in reading that study. The reason being is the patient does not select the drug. The doctor does. Very few doctors are going to prescribe a drug that is inappropriate for the patient, regardless of what the patient wants. Unless you are someone like Michael Jackson with your own resident physician on call, 24/7.

In light of Jackson's untimely demise, even those doctors are getting hard to come by.

The Royal Gorge Bridge in Cannon City, CO. Considering when it was erected, it is truly an engineering marvel. Also the deer up there like Oreo Cookies. ( https://royalgorgebridge.com/ )

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Commend Guy
A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation Nominee: Guy Proposed by: Marilyn Manson Freaks

Notes that Guy has been a prominent force for good for more than nine years"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Synopsis: The Security Council is attempting to Commend a leader in the Defender Community and one with multiple and lasting ties to Texas. Guy has been Delegate of one of Texas' oldest allies, 10000 Islands, not once, but twice. On top of that, he has been Delegate of another of Texas' allies, The Rejected Realms. In all cases, he proved to be an effective leader, a great communicator, and a military expert. If you need more icing, we can heap more praise on him for his contributions to yet another Texas ally, Spiritus, serving them in multiple capacities. We count Guy as a friend and a swell guy. You should introduce yourself and see for yourself. Four Stars. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was way up on the last SC vote -- Condemn The League Of Conservative Nations -- which was defeated after gaining only 13.9% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 2 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 2 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All Texas WA Member nations please vote. Please make your Texan opinions known in Texas by 11:00 PM Friday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00 PM Texas Time on Saturday the 16th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 8632 Votes AGAINST: 3322

Big Tex

PS: Remember, be sure to vote at the World Assembly too!

I would say that my top 7 in America would be:

1. Mount Rushmore

2. Freedom Tower / 911 Memorial

3. Golden Gate Bridge

4. Statue of Liberty

5. Empire State Building

6. Gateway Arch

7. The Biltmore House

That's reallllllly East Coast centric. 3 in NYC is too many. Sears/Willis Tower is more deserving than the ESB or the Freedom Tower, IMO.

Just some food for thought of some other possibilities that haven't been mentioned:

-Sears Tower, now Willis Tower

-The Space Needle

-Space Center/Cape Canaveral

-The Lincoln Memorial, Washington Memorial, White House, etc.

-The Pentagon

-AT&T Stadium

Saw some Texas Longhorns today. I think they said the record for horns was 17 inches

How about these seven?

1- Mount Rushmore
2- Gateway Arch
3- Space Needle
4- Golden Gate Bridge
5- Washington Monument
6- The Parthenon
7- The Alamo

Trecdom2 wrote:Saw some Texas Longhorns today. I think they said the record for horns was 17 inches

Well I'm gonna be seeing a lot more Longhorns come July 9th since I'm moving to Austin for a new job. No more Aggie Games for me in Person dammit 😔.

As a Public Service Announcement, there is a standing offer of a Free Burger and Beer (or, Big Red, or, Sweet Tea) with Big Tex if you are ever in NewAustin, NewTexas (aka, IRL Austin, Texas). So far, three have taken us up on the offer. We welcome any and all.

Surely the drive isn't be more than 2 hours? I mean, maybe you won't go to every game, but it's certainly a feasible trip there and back in a day.

Hopefully but my new job is at the airport I'm involved with security so it will depend on my schedule.

Probably could've taken a job in stadium security. Could get into all the Aggies games you wanted. ;)

But still, congrats on the new job Gig 'Em!

How about the Chrysler Building? No one's mentioned it so far, but I'd argue it's the world's most impressive example of Art Deco architecture.

***** Texas Saturday Breakfast *****

¡Ay Carumba! The Free Tacos are winding down, so, we bring you a NewTexas staple, today's Saturday Breakfast, brought to you by The Big Tex Happy Taco Stands of NewTexas, is the super-yummy Chorizo & Egg Taco! This is no Gringo Taco, this twangy little baby is the real deal. Chorizo is a spicy sausage made in Mexico, Spain, and Portugal. The European varieties are hard and cured like salami. The Mexican variety, is fresh and ground like Jimmy Dean but is stuffed in casings (natural or not). While, like Jimmy Dean, it is made from ground pork, it diverges there in that chorizo is marinated in vinegar and chili powder. Today, we will be removing it from the casing and frying it up in the skillet. This produces a rich, reddish grease that is mostly drained after the chorizo is fully-cooked. We then crack fresh Texas Grade AA brown eggs into the skillet and scramble. The result is an orange-ish, not-so-fluffy, yet very eggy, very spicy heap of breakfast goodness that we are going to pile into homemade flour tortillas! A whole egg in every taco!® We also have plenty of refried beans if you want them on the side, or, if you are just not feeling eggy today, we will make you a Chorizo y Frijoles Refritos taco. Not into refried beans? We just so happen to have a big ol' pot of spuds going and can make you a Chorizo con Papas taco that is diced potatoes and chorizo. You know you have a good chorizo taco when you have orange grease running down your arm and dripping off your elbow. That is our promise for your taco! Today's Salsa Bar includes staples like Pico de Gallo, mild traditional red salsa, tart and tangy green tomatillo salsa, pickled jalapeños, limes, and cilantro. The specials today include an expertly-prepared fire-roasted red salsa, delicately flecked with little, charred bits and the extravagantly hot and sweet mango habanero chunky salsa only to be tried by the exceptionally brave. It is Free Cheese Saturday, so be sure and ask for some mild, cheesy, Longhorn Jack on your taco today! Remember, breakfast tacos are served at any time at The Big Tex Happy Taco Stands! The Juice Bar is open with all the standard juices - Orange, Grapefruit, Apple, and Tomato. The funky one today is a Cilantro/Chive/Spinach Smoothie. Try "The Suicide" - we dare you! If fresh fruit is not your bag, we will be stirring up Tang on request. Start your day off the right way; munch out and go back to sleep. Of course, The Never Ending Urn of Coffee is full and ready to help you wash it all down. Texas coffee doesn't get any better. Enjoy Texas! You know you want to!®
