Locusts and toads are edible delicacies. Locusts are eaten in many African, Middle Eastern and Asian countries. Frogs and toads are eaten in China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, France, Northern Italy, the Alentejo region of Portugal, Spain, Albania, Slovenia, Romania, Northwest Greece, Southern United States, Brazil and Mexico. So I don't mind raining toads and locust plagues. They'd be a source of free food. :D

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Commend Woonsocket
A resolution to recognize outstanding contribution by a nation or region.

Category: Commendation Nominee: Woonsocket Proposed by: Sargon Reman

The Security Council,

RECOGNIZING that since its formation fifteen years ago, the nation of Woonsocket has contributed overwhelmingly to"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Commentary: The Security Council wishes to Commend a Friend of Texas for over 6 years. We met Woonsocket in 2013 as they became Delegate of one of our oldest allies, 10000 Islands. Woonsocket/Woonrocket have been the penultimate diplomat and defender in all the years we have known them. There is not a single bad thing we can think of when it comes to Woonsocket. He is really a great guy worthy of this Commendation. We encourage all to support this Resolution. NewTexas will go on record as FOR on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was down on the last SC vote -- "Condemn The Land of Kings and Emperors" -- which was defeated after gaining only 44.4% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 3 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 3 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Yay!

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All Texas WA Member nations please vote. Please make your Texan opinions known in Texas by 11:00 PM Wednesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00 PM Texas Time on Wednesday the 6th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 8688 Votes AGAINST: 2911

Gig em Aggies wrote:what about SGU? did that not confuse you?

Are you talking about the TV series? If so, it was good enough to hold my interest. Although the stories got a little repetitive after a while.

Fort verden wrote:Parents, whether gun owners or not, need to take steps to educate children and to ask the question when in homes where their children visit– “Are there any unsecured firearms in the home?”

My answer to that question, and the answer my children were instructed to give when they lived at home, is "Information will be given on a need to know basis."

Even though I have a black belt in snark, that answer is not meant to practice that fine art. The fact is that gun owners are sometimes targeted by both thieves and activists. This is especially true when one's neighborhood, public school system, or local government is inhabited by liberal busybodies with no other life than to try to run other people's lives.

The number of weapons in my home and the security surrounding those weapons is not for public consumption.

My children gave roughly the same answer if questioned about weapons in our home. While they already knew not to discuss the guns in the house with others, those instructions were reinforced in the wake of policy established by then Superintendent of the San Marcos, TX school system, Hector someone-or-other after the Columbine school shooting.

That policy required students to answer questions by school officials or police about the number and type of weapons in their home. There was nothing in that policy about probable cause or what would become of that information.

In the course of these "community safety questions" students were also asked whether or not they ever handle the weapons, if they were knowledgeable in their use, and if the student has ever fired them.

Students resisting this line of questioning were subject to counseling, disciplinary action, and possible suspension or expulsion.

Up until then I never thought I would see a day where it was necessary for me to tell my children to remain silent before school officials, repeating the mantra "I have nothing to say until my parent is present."

Fort verden wrote:Take actions to protect those who matter most to you by securing all firearms and prescription medications.

Define secure.

While not going into the specific security surrounding the weapons in my home, it is safe to say I will never be in the unfortunate position of having to politely ask an intruder to wait quietly while I spin the dial on a gun safe.

One of the reasons I keep firearms around is home defense. Where I live the Sheriff's average emergency response time is 20 minutes. This assumes there is nothing going on that drew all the deputies to the other side of the county. If I have an emergency need for defense, I cannot wait 20 minutes for help. That problem will be resolved one way or the other in the first 90 seconds. It is my strong preference that resolution is in my favor.

Having to litigate with a gun safe while someone is kicking in your front door is not conducive to a favorable resolution to that situation.

Fort verden wrote:E - Educate and Empower others to be SAFE.

I wholeheartedly agree with education. But I'm guessing my idea of firearms education and the authors of the "SAFE" program are not on the same set of rails.

Alas, the powers that be over our most of our public schools removed hunting safety classes and the weapons portion of ROTC programs, if not the entire ROTC program, from our schools.

With first person shooter video games and Hollywood setting gun safety examples for the last generation or so, my guess is that not one in 20 teenagers today can explain muzzle awareness or trigger discipline.

NATIONAL RUNNING DAY

Each year on the first Wednesday in June, people across the United States participate in National Running Day. This day was designated as a day for runners to reaffirm their passion for running. It is also a good day for beginners to begin a life-changing commitment to running.

For some, running is a daily routine. The moment the runner awakes, their mission is to complete a set distance. They may have a partner, or they go it alone. Others fit in a run when time allows or at the end of their workday. The marathoner will train on a schedule, and the dedicated runner knows they have to take care of their feet, knees and eat right to maintain their bodies for the road.

Whatever the distance, National Running Day is about placing one foot in front of the other and setting a pace.

HOW TO OBSERVE

Whether you run a few miles or just around the block, by yourself or with a friend or three, this is a perfect day to go for a run!

HISTORY

Running organizations have partnered together since 2009 to promote National Running Day. For more information visit globalrunningday.org.

Transcript of General Dwight D. Eisenhowers Order of the Day (1944)
SUPREME HEADQUARTERS
ALLIED EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen of the Allied Expeditionary Force!

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade, toward which we have striven these many months. The eyes of the world are upon you. The hope and prayers of liberty-loving people everywhere march with you. In company with our brave Allies and brothers-in-arms on other Fronts, you will bring about the destruction of the German war machine, the elimination of Nazi tyranny over the oppressed peoples of Europe, and security for ourselves in a free world.

Your task will not be an easy one. Your enemy is will trained, well equipped and battle-hardened. He will fight savagely.

But this is the year 1944! Much has happened since the Nazi triumphs of 1940-41. The United Nations have inflicted upon the Germans great defeats, in open battle, man-to-man. Our air offensive has seriously reduced their strength in the air and their capacity to wage war on the ground. Our Home Fronts have given us an overwhelming superiority in weapons and munitions of war, and placed at our disposal great reserves of trained fighting men. The tide has turned! The free men of the world are marching together to Victory!

I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full Victory!

Good luck! And let us beseech the blessing of Almighty God upon this great and noble undertaking.

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new Security Council Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Condemn Pierconium
A resolution to express shock and dismay at a nation or region.

Category: Condemnation Nominee: Pierconium Proposed by: Kingdom of Napels

The Security Council,

Noting that the nation of Pierconium was founded"...

<see the Security Council for full text and to vote>

Commentary: The Security Council wishes to Condemn a Feeder powerhouse. We have never had the pleasure/displeasure of meeting Pierconium. Texas generally stays out of politics in the Feeders and Sinkers, with the exception of our friends in The Rejected Realms. So, we really only have what the author describes to go on. The new Resolution is called:
"World Assembly Justice Accord
A resolution to improve worldwide human and civil rights.

Category: Civil Rights Strength: Strong Proposed by: Wallenburg

Recognizing the persistent issue of noncompliance with World Assembly legislation within member nations"...

<see the General Assembly for full text and to vote>

Commentary: The General Assembly would like to create unbelievable new layers of bureaucracy in the form of the world's legal system with this Resolution. It wants to create a Judiciary Committee with the power to create all manner of trial courts and appellate courts and who knows whatever else courts. All this is to bring "an anarchic body of noncompliant members" in line with World Assembly Resolutions and dish out whatever punishments it deems necessary short of capital punishment. Count us as not only an anarchic body but one who wants fewer laws, not more. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

Update on Verner's condition:

Verner’s been hospitalized since the morning of June 6th. He was seated at the computer table when he fell unconscious. The chair he was sitting in overturned and he ended up on the floor. I had told him to stay in bed and I would make him breakfast in bed. However, he got out of bed despite being feverish. He had refused to go to hospital because he was scared of being readmitted to hospital, so I took a leave of absence from work to care for him at home. But that morning I had to get him to hospital: He remained unconscious despite my best efforts to revive him.

My lord was really upset when he woke up and found himself in hospital again but his fever’s broken, he’s awake and he’s feeling better. Unfortunately when he fell and hit his head on the floor, he suffered a concussion and he'll need some time to recover from that.

I really hope and wish this is the final time I have to post an update on my lord's health. So please pray for Verner not to become sick or be injured again this year. Because of his health problems, this year has been the most horrible year for our family so far and we'd like that to change. Thank you in advance for your prayers.
