Indian Empire wrote:Oh my gosh... I don't know if y'all watched that final round... but if you didn't you should seriously look at some Tiger highlights. It felt like the old, dominant Tiger everyone once knew was out there. He shot an insane 6 under 64 to reach 14 under par. It was enough to make him solo second place, two behind winner Brooks Koepka.
So what place on the leaderboard did Happy place?
For perspective, this was Tiger's best performance in a major this decade and his best performance in a major period since his runner up finish in the 2009 PGA Championship (NINE years ago). This performance also moved Tiger up the official world rankings, from 51st to 26th.

Here's some highlights from Tiger's day for those who didn't catch it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-kam9k9wa0

The World Assembly is considering a resolution to forbid member states from having capital punishment.

Repeal: “Crime and Punishment”

I am AGAINST this resolution because I think states should be free to decide for themselves whether or not to allow capital punishment for serious crimes.

It isn't this proposed resolution that would bar WA members from using capital punishment: This would simply repeal the existing resolution that limits their ability to do so while making a complete ban impossible. What you have to worry about is the complete ban that's next on the repeal author's agenda...

**** New WA Resolution Notification *****

There is currently a new General Assembly Resolution at vote. When expressing your opinion, please note which Resolution it is for. And remember Texans, your individual vote does count!

The new Resolution is called:
"Repeal: "Crime And Punishment"
A resolution to repeal previously passed legislation.

Category: Repeal Resolution: GA#375 Proposed by: United Massachusetts

General Assembly Resolution #375 "Crime and Punishment" (Category: Human Rights; Strength: Significant) shall be struck out"...

<see the General Assembly for full text and to vote>

Synopsis: The General Assembly once again attempts to make The World a better place by repealing a Death Penalty blocker put in place by our friends over in the IDU. This would be the first step on a path to outlawing it outright. While the current law is not perfect, sometimes blockers are a necessary evil to protect us from worse laws. Zero Stars. NewTexas will go on record as AGAINST on this Resolution. This is only the opinion of NewTexas. We look forward to other Texans' opinions and comments on this Resolution. If good arguments to the contrary are made, we will reconsider our position.

The Texas response was in the gutter on the last GA vote -- Ban On Conversion Therapy -- which was passed after gaining 86.0% of the vote. As a reminder, all we are looking for is a simple 10% of Texans to say one way or another. We are a force for change in the WA. Every vote counts! There were 1 publicly-expressed opinions on the last Resolution with the final Texas tally running 1 FOR and 0 AGAINST and 0 ABSTAIN and 0 UNDECIDED. Texans were unanimous! Um, yay?

If you would like to take part in shaping the world you live in, please vote. Voting is a right and a privilege, please consider using it. And, if you are not a member of the World Assembly, we strongly encourage you to join.

All Texas WA Member nations please vote. Please make your Texan opinions known in Texas by 11:00 PM Wednesday and in the World Assembly voting booth by 11:00 AM Texas Time on Thursday the 16th. Current voting in The World is running - Votes FOR: 8893 Votes AGAINST: 2849

***** State of The Region Address *****

April 15, 2018

Greetings Citizens of Texas!

Texas Elections Voting Week is over. It is our great pleasure to present to the region, the brand new Texas Government for the Second Trimester 2018!!!

***The Texas Government***

**The Texas Cabinet**

The Governor of Texas - The Big Tex Happy Taco Stands of NewTexas
The Lieutenant Governor of Texas - The Gigantic Frozen Igloo of Studly Penguins
The Secretary of Defense of Texas - The Social Republic of Indian Empire
The Secretary of World Assembly Affairs of Texas - The Serene Compassionate Utopia of Safj
The Secretary of State of Texas - The Spring Nation of Trecdom2

**Texas Representative Council**

The Barnes-Free Conglomerate of Ewing Oil Co
The Galactic Empire of Gig em Aggies
The Oppressed Peoples of Issues Test Bed
Shemiki
The Southeast Texan Republic of United States of Woodward

**Texas Constitutional Update**

-- None --

The Great Region of Texas officially issues Congratulations to each and every nation that was elected, that ran, that voted, that viewed these proceedings! These were some great elections as usual. This Trimester, there were few surprises in a nice change of pace. First off, one of our two Joint Secretaries of State did not run for re-election leaving Trecdom2 uncontested for the position, which he won handily. Secondly, over in World Assembly Affairs, long-time candidate Safj won that race in the only contested race defeating incumbent Seeker Alpha. Indian Empire kept the title of Secretary of Defense and Hiram of Studly Penguins remains The Lieutenant Governor of Texas. We are sure that well-placed speech pushed him to that unanimous re-election.

The TRC looks similar, but new this Trimester. While last Trimester, Shemiki and Gig Em Aggies declined to run, this Trimester, the did an about face and the people of Texas are glad they did and elected both of them. JR of The Barnes-Free Conglomerate of Ewing Oil Co retains his seat as well as The Southeast Texan Republic of United States of Woodward and the ever-popular The Oppressed Peoples of Issues Test Bed as the three incumbents returning to service to Texas. Once again, we have a full complement of veteran TRC members to represent and serve Texas and all will be valuable assets to Texas Government and we look forward to working with each and every one again.

In Texas Constitutional matters, we had none. Once again, that is a tribute to the quality of our Constitution.

Please join us in commending all of Texas for their participation in this Trimester's Election! This Election was light in the participation again this Trimester, down from the previous one. We still do not get how out of 165 some odd nations (down 54 from 219 last Election), only 9 choose to vote (down 4 from 13 last Election). It is kind of sad. However, these jobs all require work, real work, not just role play work, so it is a tribute to those who did run. Texans are still very much alive, yet older, and are a dynamic bunch even after all these years! Kudos!

Big cheers to all the members of Texas Government!

Overall, this has been great fun and good times for all Texans. We look forward to seeing how the new freely-elected Government of Texas will make Texas bigger, better and greater than ever! Cheers to The Great Region of Texas!

The Announcement & Party is posted here:

Congrats to all election winners; here's hoping for a successful term in office for the new government.

Just a reminder, now that Crime and Punishment has been repealed, it might now be a good time to start coordinating a defense against a capital-punishment ban by the WA. The author and supporters of the death-penalty ban currently being drafted are getting organized -- so should we.

While I'm not in favor of capital punishment, I am in favor of a nation having the freedom of choice in the matter. Certainly willing to help collaborate on a resolution.
