Hello Right to Life!

Rhinia is currently undergoing big change and we would love for you to send over a puppet or another nation to help us out! Currently we are looking for nations available to fill government positions and positions in our House of Commons, where all the laws are made up of.

Our whole system is being revamped and we are aiming to bring back political parties too, so feel free to create your own if you decide to join us!

Our embassies are currently being reviewed as well. My apologies if we do close an embassy with you. If you feel as though we have closed an embassy unfairly (we are only human after all), then don’t hesitate to contact me.

If you have any questions, please contact Patek phillippe or Barlomia

Regards

Patek phillippe

RHINIAN WORLD ASSEMBLY DELEGATE AND DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER

I’ll give you my take on the Sohrab Amari vs. French thing: French is a libertarian who has no interest in the common good, because it’s a Leninist ideal, obviously.

Edit: I should add that most of the people who wrote that thing in First Things CD mentioned are goofuses, but some are okay.

Culture of Life wrote:Where to begin? . . .

First, I had some personal circumstances that affected my ability to participate in NationStates. I followed my own mantra that real life always comes first, and I logged onto NationStates only to keep my primary nations alive -- this nation and Christian Democrats.

Second, the automated recruitment script went down because of an error of some kind. I need to contact the moderators because it concerned our API privileges. I think, but am not sure, that a computer glitch caused our script to exceed the rate limit.

Third, it's good to see that most/all of the players that I remember are still here.

Fourth, it's good to see that we still have a government and that the region has not fallen into total anarchy. If somebody could give me an update on the state of the region -- preferably on this message board -- that would be swell.

Fifth, it's a great tragedy that the Irish people and government now tolerate abortion in their laws. In December, the Dáil (Assembly) voted 90-15 and the Seanad (Senate) voted 27-5 to legalize abortion until the 12th week. Abortions became available on January 1st.

Sixth, on a brighter note, the pro-life movement has seen some success in the United States. Contrary to the "woke" millennial stereotype, young Americans have been more vocal and more supportive of the right to life than their parents and grandparents.

https://thehill.com/sites/default/files/screen_shot_2019-06-07_at_1.10.31_pm.jpg

If the pro-life movement can gain a foothold, abolishing abortion in one state, it can show America that a society without abortion is not the twisted dark fantasy of a Margaret Atwood novel. Rather, it is a society that truly practices America's and humanity's best principles.

Seventh, the ongoing public debate between the Sohrab Ahmari camp and the David French camp has been intriguing. If you don't know what I'm talking about, see the manifesto "Against the Dead Consensus," published in First Things.

Firstly, it's so good to see you back, I'm not sure if you realise how much you were missed haha. Secondly, I'll say that things while you were away were not as bad as they could've been, but I was disappointing in my ability to keep things running smoothly. We've obviously taken a huge nation hit, now being down to 75, yet as you noted we maintained a healthy core. The issue is I don't believe we've added any core members since you left (if your a new core member since CoL left forgive me, I forget exactly when he left). After things kind of shifted to my care I remember thinking I wished I had learned more about how to move a region forward from you, and hopefully I can learn that now.

Quick rundowns: not being able to change regional officers was not ideal, I only got the hang of approving and declining embassies a couple of weeks ago. The forums are fairly dead, I tried adding political parties hoping that would spice things up, but it didn't. I take all of the blame for that, I was terrible at policing election cycles and advising incoming governments, while also posting debate ideas on the forums. The discord has done okay, but it is mainly relaxed chat and didn't replace any forum function as far as I can tell, basically it just became the chatroom that never got off the ground on the old forums (my perception at least). UM is preparing some overhaul plan, but I don't think he's announced his full list of ideas to look into while occupying the presidency yet, if I'm wrong on that then my apologies.

I'm not sure if I forgot anything, but if there's any private updates you'd like feel free to TG me.

Again, it's good to see you back, I hope you can stick around.

I wish I had time to write such an explanation of what happened myself. Let me just say that I will try to do that before CoL leaves again ;)

I want to update the region's informational dispatch. Any ideas?

OVERVIEW OF RIGHT TO LIFE

Established on June 1, 2011, Right to Life is the premier region for the pro-life movement on NationStates. Right to Life is a community of nations that recognizes and promotes defense of the unalienable rights of the unborn. The nations of the region, believing in the equal dignity of prenatal life, oppose induced abortion in all or most cases. Members of Right to Life come from a wide spectrum of national, political, and religious (and nonreligious) backgrounds. Anyone pro-life is welcome in the region.

Regional law permits individual region members to tolerate abortion access in certain rare cases: maternal life, maternal health, rape, incest, and serious fetal abnormalities. Together, these cases constitute about one-tenth of abortion procedures. Nine in ten abortions are performed for social or economic reasons. In the world, there are more than 40 million abortions per year. On other issues of human life, such as capital punishment and assisted suicide, region members are free to form and adhere to their own personal opinions.

Nations that join our community are strongly encouraged to:

Right to Life is one of the largest regions on NationStates. It reached a record population of 193 nations on May 28, 2017.

If you ever have any questions or concerns about Right to Life, feel free to telegram Governor Culture of Life.

Right to Life is currently making changes to the structure and organization of its regional government. Therefore, the information below this box may be incorrect, incomplete, or outdated. The information below will be updated as soon as Right to Life has finished reforming its regional government. In the meantime, please ask any questions you may have on Right to Life's regional message board.

GOVERNMENT OF RIGHT TO LIFE

Right to Life adopted its third constitution on February 25, 2018. The constitution specifies the requirements for citizenship, it sets forth the foundational principles of the region, it enumerates the rights of citizens, and it establishes a regional government with four branches: a bicameral legislative branch, an executive branch, an administrative branch, and a judicial branch.

  • Legislative Branch | Congress

  • Executive Branch | Presidential Cabinet

  • Administrative Branch | Regional Administration

  • Judicial Branch | High Court

      Chief Justice: vacant
      Associate Justice: vacant
      Associate Justice: vacant

The terms of office are three months for the Senate, three months for the President, and nine months for the High Court.

RIGHT TO LIFE ARMY

The armed forces are known as the Right to Life Army (RTLA). Established in December 2011, the RTLA is a neutral or independent NationStates military that participates in defensive and offensive operations. Membership is completely voluntary. The RTLA has seen ups and downs over the years. Since 2018, it has been controlled by the executive branch. Before that, it was controlled by the administrative branch. If you're interested in joining the RTLA, become a citizen first. Then, contact the President or the Minister of the Army.

  • Orientation: Neutral or independent

  • Successful Missions: 61

  • Last Mission: April 25, 2020

ASSOCIATIONS OF RIGHT TO LIFE

Right to Life's constitution declares that citizens have "the right to associate and assemble for peaceful purposes." Promoting this right, the regional government has established criteria for the recognition of political parties and civic organizations of sufficient size and activity.

Registered political parties in Right to Life include:

  • The Christian Democratic Party (CDP) is led by The Catholic State of Eire. It was originally founded on January 11, 2013, as the Progressive Party. It promotes Christian Democracy and a consistent life ethic, and it draws heavily on Catholic social teaching. CDP members generally identify with the center-left in regional politics.

  • The Conservative Federalist Party (CFP) is led by Aawia. It was founded on November 22, 2012, and it is the oldest political party in Right to Life. In regional politics, it promotes conservatism and secularism, or religious neutrality. It is neutral in the General Assembly and the Security Council, and it supports a pro-invader stance in military gameplay.

There is one registered civic organization:

  • The Thomas Aquinas Society (TAS) is led by Horatius Cocles. Founded on August 20, 2015, it is the region's oldest registered civic organization. It promotes fellowship among the Catholic residents of Right to Life.

Political parties and civic organizations may be registered on the regional forums. Preserving public order, the regional government reserves the authority to deny recognition to any association whose aims are illegal or grossly offensive (e.g., advocating racism). Citizens whose applications are rejected may appeal to the High Court if they believe they've been treated arbitrarily or unfairly.

Also, did the Christian Socialist Party and the Reactionary Traditionalist Front die? I think it would be best for us to have parties that are game-based anyway -- i.e., parties that take positions on game-related issues rather than real-world politics.

We give our thanks, Creator God, for the fathers in our lives.

Fatherhood does not come with a manual, and reality teaches us that some fathers excel while others fail.
We ask for Your blessings for them all and forgiveness where it is needed.

This Father's Day we remember the many sacrifices fathers make for their children and families, and the ways--both big and small--they lift children to achieve dreams thought beyond reach.

So too, we remember all those who have helped fill the void when fathers pass early or are absent; grandfathers and uncles, brothers and cousins, teachers, pastors and coaches and the women of our families.

For those who are fathers, we ask for wisdom and humility in the face of the task of parenting. Give them the strength to do well by their children and by You.
In Your Holy name, O God, we pray.

Amen.

Well, after two years of not much activity from you, I thought you were gone. So, I decided to join Waldy and Gagium in the FCN to help them out. But now that you're back though... things may change. I do still help on the RtL discord too by the way.

I'll have to look into this more. Ironically, while I mostly agree the take of that article, I disagree with the foundational idea that it is impossible to rebuild a consensus that has passed away. We can turn back the clock, people just insist on not doing so with an overly deterministic spirit.

To me David French's basic premise that there can be "neutral" spaces where Christian "politics" and pagan values can co-exist is flawed: the state (or whatever) can at best pretend it's neutral, but it is always picking sides, values, and theologies that transcend this supposed neutrality (because there is no neutral space, in the end).

On a more-or-less permanent basis, I have the recruitment script up and running again. After several telegrams, I think I figured out why it went down.

When I was gone, taking care of real-world issues, I did not forget about NationStates. I kept the recruitment script running on one of my computers (24 hours, 7 days per week). However, several members of the government saw a slowdown in migration to Right to Life and assumed that I was no longer operating a recruitment script. ("Nobody's moving here right now, so COL must have stopped recruiting.") Therefore, they started recruiting using the region's API privileges. The NationStates system noticed that we were double-recruiting, and it automatically kicked us off.

I don't know when the suspension ended or how long it was imposed. I thought I would need to make a request to the moderators to restore API privileges once I returned. That was not the case. Our old privileges work again, and I'm using them to run the recruitment script.

In the future, don't hesitate to send me an email if you have any pressing questions related to the region. The email address that I use for NationStates is available to at least some of you on the offsite board (view my forum profile). Of course, it's not my "real" email address; but I do receive notifications when I have unread emails in that inbox.

Thanks, CoL. I took over the recruitment script at some point when we thought you were no longer running it. I couldn't run it anywhere near 24/7, but I was running it as often as possible. I'll make sure not to kick you off again.
And I never even thought of looking at your offsite profile for an email address. Everyone was hoping for some way to contact you outside of NS, but I never heard of one.

For those that haven't heard: the British National Health Service is forcing a Catholic woman with learning disabilities to undergo a late-term abortion against her will:

This has however thankfully been overturned by the Court of Appeal:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-48751067

It's beyond comprehension how this was allowed to happen in the first place, essentially condemning a child to death for no justifiable reason. This does clearly show that there is a culture in the judicial system which views the unborn with no inherent value, never mind having a concept of human dignity. Saying that however I would be concerned labeling this view as socialist because that simply isn't the case in the UK. For 9 years now there has been a right-winged government in power and I haven't seen any action from the Tories in any way to stop this kind of thing happening in the UK.
