I think In England a place needs to have a cathedral to be labeled a "city".

Arcticone wrote:It's funny. I used to take great pains to remain an independent. Trump's election and his current actions showcase the perverse mindset that American conservatism has come to now. Unless they redeem themselves, I am never voting Republican again, for all but the most local of offices.
An actual proposed bill to un-person a respected academic author. Hendren should be removed from office.

You have voted Republican before?

Arcticone wrote:China's only communist in name only, pal. The dissolution of the USSR essentially ended "real" communism on a nation-state level (North Korea still dabbles in the economy and like the USSR acts more like an autocratic state than a communist one, so they don't count).

They also don't count because they don't even call themselves communist anymore. Vietnam still does, though, from what I remember.

Denmark is a really nice place. Both politically and in regards to the nature. If you visit the continent, you could try a trip to it.

For me, they're towns. Cities would be NYC or Berlin.

Oh, I live in this suburb of Nashville. I've been on this game on and off since 2012.

Sestaneneet nepaslind

And I believe I found this game by looking on Google for online games where you can control your own country.

Looking up nation simulators on Google.

Same. Really got into simulator-style games back then.

Sestaneneet nepaslind wrote:Take Slaughters, Kentucky. Despite having only about 200 people, it's classified as a city.

Maybe the fact that it's a city with 200 people has something to do with its name.

What are the chances that 100 years ago it was a bustling city called "Living"?

I also found NationStates by looking up nation simulator games.

Coincidentally, the town of GTFO, Indiana is home to only a family of 5.

It's a real shame.

Idiots.

Shizensky wrote:You know something? I'm actually quite proud to be American. I love my country and I want good things to happen for it, and I want to do my part in making those things happen. But I acknowledge our faults with the knowledge that we have constantly displayed our ability to get it right eventually. It takes time sometimes, but we figure it out. The thing about showing when. We've been on the bad side of history is that we can show how we realized that and put ourselves on the right side of history.

I agree, but historiography is the least of our problems right now. Rational people don't have control of our present, and we are rapidly losing what little control of we have of our future.

Trump is working hard to destroy the future, at least on the ecological end. I can point to one thing specifically: he has refused to allow an Army Corps of Engineers report on the best way to go about Asian Carp (a species that has raviged America's rivers and is threatening the Great Lakes fishing and tourism industry) containment is being withheld by the White House ("We... uh... need more time! Yeah, sure... Hey, did that check from the shipping industry come in yet?"). And he wants to annihilate the agencies that have barely managed to keep the menace at bay so far. Soon, fish and days on the beach at the Great Lakes will become a thing of that past.

Jute wrote:You have voted Republican before?

Shocking, I know. I like local Republican leadership: from my experience Democratic leadership tends to be corrupt at the local level, much like Republican leadership at the national level (which is why I added the qualifier "for all but the most local of offices"). In the 2016 elections I enthusiastically supported Clinton and despised Trump, but I voted in favor of our Republican senator and governor, although I have come to regret the former (because he is essentially a Trump kissass and supports ending net neutrality) and I am now more conflicted on the latter because while he did a good job in essentially being a messiah for my state's economy, he also supports privatized prisons axed a lot of stuff that shouldn't have been axed as part of his actions to stop us from going in the red.

That's the independent's dilemma on the Republican Party: good with money, awful with everything else. Whatever. I can't take back my vote, even though I might like to.

Jute wrote:They also don't count because they don't even call themselves communist anymore. Vietnam still does, though, from what I remember.

I suppose. Technically, they are Juche Socialist, although nobody really knows what that even means anymore. For Vietnam, that's interesting. Still in name only though: half of my clothes are from Vietnam.

If your only response is to accuse my sources, which are (with the possible exception of Politico) recognized journalistic organizations with good resources, of being fake outright, I have nothing more to say to you. I've had it.

Breitbart is fake news, because they have been shown to be outright liars repeatedly and don't even pretend to be honest and fair. NYT is not fake news and is a respectable agency with a strong tradition of journalistic integrity, despite what your new God says on twitter. Fox News doesn't report on anything hat doesn't fit their agenda/target and you know this well. Open your damn eyes and stop living in your echo-chamber dream world.

Cuts to:
-The agency that protects our land, air, and water and stops it from turning uninhabitable like Russia or China
-Diplomacy. Not important, obviously
-"What do they even do?" Enforcement of agricultural, forestry, and food quality laws, as well as a provider of basic food welfare for the poor.
^ Enforces labor laws, works with unions to try and keep the working class alive.
^ Works with disease prevention, advises the government on healthcare so US citizens don't die.
^ IDK actually.
-Basic standards and reform for national public education.
-Making sure poor urban families have housing. Not that you would care at all.
-Making sure our highways are decent and that our infrastructure doesn't collapse.
-Like a cross between the EPA and USDA, from my understanding.
-Green energy, energy infrastructure, and energy independence
-"I love small businesses!"
-Advises the government on sane economic policy.
"I actually disagree with this one" Thank god
-^good

Increases to:
-A pork-barrel military about to be filled with tanks the Pentagon doesn't want, F-35s that Trump said he was against
-The Torture, Illegal Detention, and Inconvenience Agency™
-VA that will still produce huge numbers of homeless and dying veterans

FTFY.
