My nation's citizens are actually uh...
shh, we can't tell them that we're a cat-run nation and we've brainwashed everyone to follow the ways of the cat!
What's the harm? They're in our region!
What's the harm? Are you serious? They'll invade us to 'liberate' us!
Ahem, uhh... They identify with whatever they want to be! They all have free will. Chuckles nervously

Citizens of my NS country identify primarily as members of the Human Race. Other than that, it's up to them whether they identify as Gerballists, as Refugi, or both, and no polls have been taken about this.
Melenavenia, Vikoland, Araine, and Kariforunia
Melenavenians are fiercely competitive so during sports events you might almost describe them as nationalistic, but beyond sports events they use "Refugi" and "Melenavenian" almost interchangeably. In fact, every language in Refugia is recognized as an official language in Melenavenia.

Let me see, in normal reading order, it's Kutenai, Mi'kmaq, Haida, Tłı̨chǫ, Nakoda, Anishinaabe, Peguis, Musqueam, Nunavut, Pimicikamak Cree, and Tlingit. Thought it would be more appropriate this Canada Day than then Canadian flag, given recent events.
In unrelated news, it looks like Refugia has beaten the Eco Goals that were set by SR#12 and posted as RRS 12(a) and (b).
Those goals were:
We're now at a regional average of 1,114.3 for Environmental Beauty, and 3,434.71 for Eco-Friendliness. Hooray!

I can't get over how good this is. I love it more than any other Canada Day celebration we could have done. You did a fantastic job.
Congratulations everyone :D we did it, even though we were growing considerably throughout the year.

Yeah. :( I do think it is incredible how so many Canadians are coming together on the national day of their country to protest the atrocities which have recently been uncovered. How widespread the backlash is, is honestly something I would not see happening for the same reason in the United States on July 4th. I saw the video of the statue of Queen Victoria being ripped down in front of the province capital building in Winnipeg and thought it was great. I thought it was kind of funny that the only person that the police arrested at the protest was a counter "protester" who grew violent after the statue was taken down against those demonstrating in support of the indigenous peoples.

Oh cool, I really think that some of the things that were done in those times were extremely unacceptable, and I saw on a news article that the catholic schools mistreated the kids because "they had no way to be spiritual as they were all heathens", which is just a terrible excuse and really shows that the religious aren't the "pure" people they claim to be.
In other news, China called for a human rights probe into the western countries claiming to want to uncover any further atrocities committed in those nations, and I appreciate the chutzpah and the whataboutism on a global scale like that, but seriously, China?
Sylh Alanor, Melenavenia, Araine, and Laisou
Honestly, the west has been doing it to the rest of the world for so long, I love the idea of it being turned around on our countries now.
Typica, Refuge Isle, Melenavenia, Araine, and 2 othersFree Las Pinas II, and Laisou
As someone who lives in the East, in a very oppressive and hierarchical society, I think that a nation should have all suspected rights offences cleared before being able to call for a probe.
In other news, I just got a space program YAY!!!!!
Refuge Isle, Sylh Alanor, Melenavenia, and Araine
The CCP is just using this as an opportunity to deflect and discredit legitimate human rights concerns made by NGOs and mostly western countries.
The logic that the CCP has used is “Other nations have made human rights violations, so they don’t have a right to criticize China”. If their logic was “All nations should look at what they are doing and there should be human rights probes into every country including China”, then I would support this, but the clear truth is that the CCP does not care about human rights, just using this as an opportunity to deflect blame and accountability for its own ongoing genocide.
Typica, Refuge Isle, Sylh Alanor, Melenavenia, and 3 othersAraine, Kariforunia, and Middanowah
Then literally no nation would be able to call for a probe. Having hypocrisy called out isn't going to stop China from being scrutinised, they've still got everyone's eyes on them. I have no problem with the west being called out, as someone living in a country that has committed atrocities against its indigenous population and has convinced the rest of the world we're the super polite and friendly people.
I mean, the logic the CCP is using doesn't really matter in this instance. Nobody here is saying hell yeah go CCP. I'm just happy that the west is being called out for trying to speak from any position of moral authority, which is an incredibly hypocritical position. So yeah, drag all of them. Put human rights probes into every country. Especially the ones who pretend like they're the moral guardians of the universe.

The Forest Ministry of Culture has announced the Forest Interregional Writing Contest. It will accept entries from July 15 to August 15, in 3 categories. Citizens of embassy regions are invited to submit their entries.
Forest Interregional Writing Contest 2021
.
Forest's Ministry of Culture is proud to present the first annual Forest Interregional Writing Contest, an opportunity for writers from Forest and its embassy regions to share their creativity and compete for one of our region's highest accolades.
This handy guide should cover everything you need to know about how the contest will play out. There's lots of important information, including the lowdown on this year's theme, the rules, the members of the judging panel and (perhaps most importantly) the prestigious prizes available. Please take the time to have a read, then maybe read it again - and then read it one more time, just to be sure - before putting your thinking cap on and letting your creative side run wild!
The Categories
Entries can be submitted under one of three categories:
Poetry | Drama | Prose |
Fiction in verse, poetry has been used for millennia to convey deep emotion and contentious ideas. | The immediate nature of works for the stage gives drama the profound ability to change hearts and minds. | Nothing allows readers to escape into another world (or re-examine their own) quite like reading a story. |
Writers will be able to submit a maximum of one entry per category, so submitting a poem, a one-act play and a short story is allowed, but submitting two poems or two short stories is not allowed. There is no expectation that writers will submit multiple entries, and doing so won't improve your chances of winning as all entries are anonymised before being assessed by the judges. Writers should be sure to submit only their best work.
This Year's Theme Is...
.
For better or for worse, we're living in an epoch defined by human impact on the world around us. With vast improvements in quality of life comes microplastics and greenhouse gases. With social media connecting us to friends across the globe comes online abuse and privacy concerns. With more people fighting for social justice than ever before comes culture wars and far-right extremism. With the longest era of peace in human history comes the threat of nuclear annihilation.
While all entries must address this theme, we expect each writer will interpret the theme in a different way. Other themes may be examined within each entry so long as the above theme is central to the work.
The Rules
With great writing comes a bunch of rules:
There's no formal word limit. Use your intuition - if it's too long, the judges won't have the time or patience to read it.
Stick to the submission limit. Your first submission under each category will be accepted, the rest will be discarded.
Don't plagiarise the work of others. People who break this rule will be immediately disqualified and may be barred from future writing contests.
Keep your writing PG-13. All entries must remain in accordance with NationStates' policy on offensive material.
Don't share your writing or identify your writing in any way until the contest is over. This is so the judges can assess your work without the risk of bias.
Submitting An Entry
The submission period will open on Thursday the 15th of July (00:00 UTC) and will close on Sunday the 15th of August (23:59 UTC) - late entries will be discarded. Submissions must be sent to me, Terrabod, by telegram. If you choose to submit multiple entries, you can send them all at once (as long as each is clearly delimited) or in separate telegrams. Be sure to include a title for each entry!
Each entry will be anonymised by me and passed on to the judges who will work together to select the best entry in each category. This process is expected to take roughly two weeks, so I hope to be able to announce the winners on Wednesday the 1st of September. The winning entries will be published in the announcement dispatch for all to enjoy. While I wish I could publish all of the entries, this isn't possible - I encourage entrants to instead publish their own entry (or entries) within a dispatch after the contest is over.
The Judges
This year's judging panel consists of not one, but three Forest Keepers who have each played an esteemed role in Forest's history.
This ex-Forest Keeper and current Foreign Minister is an experienced issue author and the creator of an incredibly well-developed national lore. | Forest Keeper by day, necromantic dark lord by night; the pirate currently occupying Forest's most senior position has dozens of published issues under his belt. | An influential figure in the General Assembly forums and a resolution writer to boot, this ex-Forest Keeper is one of our region's most respected voices. |
The Winners
The writer of the single best entry in each category will be awarded one of the following:
The Forestian Literary Prize for Poetry, awarded to the writer of the best work of poetry submitted to the contest.
The Forestian Literary Prize for Drama, awarded to the writer of the best work of drama submitted to the contest.
The Forestian Literary Prize for Prose, awarded to the writer of the best work of prose submitted to the contest.
While these prizes are awarded to an OOC player, I don't mind if winners want to also RP/worldbuild it as an IC interregional prize received by one of their citizens.
If you have any unanswered questions, feel free to telegram me or tag me in a post on the Forest RMB.
Best of luck to all entrants, and have fun writing!

Map update coming within the next week. Good time to put in an app if you have no yet done so
I will be using the next file for some overly complicated project ideas:
An’eth’ara, na lethall’en!
This is the official post for our regional map, from now until whatever unforeseeable end eventually becomes us. For as long as we inhabit our current corporeal forms, we can look upon the following set of images as proof that not only were we here in this time and place together, but that we did it while residing in large quantities. Refuge Isle has prepared for us three images of the map, which will automatically change when there are updates. These images show not only the state locations and names, but also culture groups and regional alliances or treaty groups!
Want to join this cool map club? If you're a Member State in Refugia (sign up for the world assembly, and also be in the region for at least a week), all you have to do is telegram the application form to Sylh Alanor. While map updates will happen monthly, they may happen more frequently if time allows for it. The most recent update is listed at the top of this dispatch and will be changed every time something is changed. Furthermore, updates will be posted in the RMB when they occur. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to ask me over the RMB, telegram, or Discord. I will respond as soon as I am able.
As of January 17, 2024, we have a new Culture policy for the map. As cultures are shared, learned behaviours, we are requiring at least two nations be a part of any new culture before it will be added to the map.
Sule tael tasalal, dar'eth shiral.

Refugia Map Application
.
Telegram the following form to Sylh Alanor if you are a World Assembly member in the region:
Nations may only apply for a placement on the map if they are a Member State.
Describe nation size as clearly as possible, including borders and map landmarks.
As cultures are shared, learned behaviours, we are requiring at least two nations be a part of any new culture before it will be added to the map.
Nation size will be considered relative to its time residing in the region, with some considerations made for nations with large populations. New nations will be expected to start small.
Nations that Cease to Exist will be removed from the map.
Nations may expand over time with growth.
Capital can be included even if your nation population hasn't unlocked that option yet.
Applications can only request existing landmasses. We will not raise new islands from the sea.
Colour can be listed as a description or hex code.

Hey Refugi,
Just wanted to drop something on the current proposal at vote, Repeal: "Ban on Conversion Therapy". I won't be putting together an IFV for this, and let me explain why.
This is a pretty easy choice. We voted in favour of Tinhampton's full ban of conversion therapy because it was better than this. She wanted to replace the conversion therapy ban before repealing the original so that there was always a ban in place. With that one in place, there's absolutely zero good that this old version does.
Melenavenia and Araine
So overall I think you're not far off the mark, and 99% of the things she writes aren't usually in line with my thoughts or beliefs, but that's within a framework of judging what she's writing. In this particular case, however, she's repealing something she already replaced, and her replacement was better than the original. So the repeal is sort of the 'two' in a one-two punch, and is sensible.
Typica, Melenavenia, Araine, and Laisou
See, I haven't been here long enough, but from their region I kinda feel like the answer is yes
Typica, Melenavenia, and Laisou
I would rather support probing both the West and China since at this point they are pointing fingers to the opposite side, better yet just probe every country on Earth since I do think majority of the nations here on Earth has their fair share of human rights violations of any kind.

Howdy!
A quick heads up that this coming Wednesday, we will be playing uno at 16:00 Pacific time, 19:00 Eastern time, or 24:00 BST.
If you want to get a little notice on your nation for when these are announced, and when games are starting, feel free to telegram me that you're interested and I'll mention your nation in future posts ^-^
Hope to see y'all there!
