Magical equestria

Re the new flag: I have to confess I found it on 4chan, and yes, the resemblance to an old Imperial German military flag is not coincidental. Personally, I thought the "ponified" version was kind of funny, and at least the colors were more cheerful than the previous flag. (Which I should add, was a pony-parody of the "Crossed Hammers" quasi-fascist flag from Pink Floyd's The Wall. That's why we asked whether the region thought this new flag was less tacky.)

Honestly, meanings change depending on how they're used. That's how "geek" turned into something sought after ("geek chic") and how Pepe the frog became a symbol of white supremacy. I don't really care that it came from a seedy part of 4chan since we're clearly not using it the same way. It looks nice. I say keep it.

Le sigh...Pepe the Frog, is not a symbol of white supremacy, and I don't care what the anti-defamation league or whatever dumb f*cking entity it was that labeled it so think. It's a meme. If people can't handle a meme, much like they couldn't handle Commie-Clinton losing the election, then they probably shouldn't be allowed access to the internet. I don't even get

What it became a symbol of is the Alt-Right.
Badly labeling something like a meme doesn't make it any degree less what it's supposed to be, and all that Pepe represented and still represents is a sad frog.

Personally, I wish I was the guy who yelled 'Pepe!' at that Clinton rally.

Now:
The flag does actually look nice.
I like how cheerful this one looks, got a lot more going on in it.
Got more in general really.

I like Prussia's flag more tho. :P

Bulkan wrote:What it became a symbol of is the Alt-Right.

So does it just represent a sad frog or does it represent the alt-right?

Bulkan wrote:What it became a symbol of is the Alt-Right.

Last I heard, Trump won the republican nomination - he IS the Right. Calling it Alt-Right is just incorrect. It's mainstream-right.

I thought your flag was Digibro when I first saw it here on the message board. Just an observation.

Any symbol comes to represent whatever it is most often used to represent. That's how symbols and language work. There's the famous quote about how "Once enough of us are wrong, we're right." Fact is, I never heard of Pepe until he started popping up in news stories about how he's become a symbol of white supremacy and the original creator killed him off in the webcomic he was a part of because he knew he couldn't "reclaim" what he originally was anymore. (The parts of the internet I spend time in just didn't use him, I guess? shrug)

Claiming he's "just a meme" is literally saying he's "just a symbol" which does nothing to change the point since my point was about symbols. Saying all he represents is "a sad frog" is simply false, since he never said "feels bad man" in the comic he came from. His meme actually started with "feels good man". Of course, the fact that you think that "feels bad man" is the origin just proves my point about the meanings of symbols changing via how people use them.

Claiming he's a symbol of the alt-right and not white supremacy seems like a distinction that's entirely pointless to me, but I'll concede that to you if you'd really like since it doesn't change the point I was making in the first place. Hell, even if he started as just "a sad frog", the fact that he became a symbol for the alt right is exactly the point I was making. I wasn't making any kind of comment on Pepe or politics with what I said, you introduced that into the conversation. My point was entirely "symbols change with how people use them."

Wherever this flag came from, it has the meaning we put into it. It looks nice, so I suggest we use it well. It's really not that big of a point. But thanks for sidetracking me. I do love to talk. ;P

What's interesting is that I didn't even know that Pepe was that symbol at all.

My first exposure to Pepe was people modifying and sharing it as a reference. I didn't even know what it was originally supposed to mean.

"Dining out often involves Ponies on the plate no matter what you order."

Um, what? So many questions.
Um... what? So many questions.

#558 option 3.

Plus misuse of the national animal field.

Honestly, it was kind of a shaky effect line from the beginning, since the point is about shed fur or scales or the like contaminating food, not about people eating whole animals.

Okay. I mean, if I’m in the minority here we can keep the new flag. No big deal.

Oh, I have noticed that our World Assembly members are kinda split on the newest issue on disability accommodations.

Normally, I would vote in the affirmative, as I see nothing inherently wrong with the proposal.

However, the initial backlash it got has made me suspicious of potential hidden motives. Is there a reason that the issue is so split, or were people voting with the initial majority.

I take these things seriously, and I want to know more before I vote either way.

Well, it never went through a public drafting phase for one, and for two, there's nothing in there that would help with processing differences like Aspergers and Autism (High functioning at least).

(I knew setting "pony" as the national animal was going to be fun.

"Recent research into pony intelligence reveals that they have several characteristics associated with human intelligence. There is apparently evidence of advanced object permanence, capacity for empathy, self-awareness, problem solving, and even a language system. Voices in Changelings are now demanding that the government should grant them legal personhood."

Now, this being Chrysalis running the nation, this would not do.)

If you go into the forums, the problems causing people to vote against it basically boil down into vague wording that opens countries up to problems and being obliged to pay for edge cases that, while rare, would be extremely expensive. It's a good idea I'd like to support, but because it wasn't vetted it has issues...

I'm reminded of the nation that claimed that they had no homosexuals, and even if they did their families would take care of them.
