I’m not planning on leaving the region or anything, but we’re probably gonna have to overhaul how everything’s structured here without L&A

I'm willing to rebuild the Panessos brand if you all are too. At times RL has drawn me away from NationStates. But I remember the days this region had a lively, active community. I want to bring that back. It saddens me thinking of all the great nations we've lost over time: Ghant, Gillenor, our Septentrion friends, Ausitoria...

If we are to move forward, I want to know where everyone stands. It will take a concentrated effort to rebuild this region and to move past our chaotic past. Who is willing to join?

Terripin and Rhinocera

Hey yo I know im on here on and off but I'm sad to hear that Aus is gone.

Naybra I'm willing to join in on rebuilding the region but I think we're gonna need a third hand on deck to get something off the ground. Can't make any promises on involvement after but I have spare time on my hands from now to February.

I'm here to cheer everybody on I guess hahaha, I'm a little strapped for time but I'll surely be involed in terms of remaining a member. Just cuz I don't post a whole lot anymore doesn't mean I'm not still here for the original gang :) .

I’d be glad to stay on and participate in a Panessos rebuild. I wasn’t here when it started and I missed the heyday of activity, but I still consider myself part of the Panessos community,

This is fantastic! Panessos faced several issues over its existence. While the specifics elude me, I think it is important that in order to rebuild, we must address these two first: 1) Regional government and 2) Canon.

1. From the very beginning, Panessos established a complicated, multi-branch regional government. Part of this was in response to the experience of members from "The Peoples Republic of Sunalaya." They broke away from Sunalaya due to abuse of power conflicts with that region's founder, Smoya. Too much power concentrated in a single individual bred conflict. It was the hope that a checks-and-balances approach would solve this issue. However, it did not. The bureaucratic machine was unsustainable without a large and active membership base. We still suffer from this issue today. Hemithea and Septentrion split from Panessos because of abuse of power claims. Nova Sylva, the founder of Septentrion spoke to the issue of a complex government during the split.

Nova Sylva wrote:Honestly - when you have a bunch of friends around to come to your house and play video games, do you draft a constitution? Make them vote on a Speaker?

I agree with him to an extent. Simple is better. A region should evolve over time based on its needs. However, I believe a constitution is still needed for the simple reason that our rules should be formally outlined. It is my opinion that our rebuild should establish a simplified charter for our region's governance. Largely, this can be done by incorporating the council framework of Panessos and Hemithea prior to Aus' departure. OOC governance should be wholly separate from IC. The Panessos Community suffered from this complication. While I have not hammered out specifics, I would love to hear your guy's opinion on the matter.

2. Panessos was founded originally by Ghant, a respected II role-player and OP of the War of Two Empresses. He founded the region on the basis of roleplay, and I believe it is this purpose we should continue to embrace. The issue comes down to whether our region is closed-world or open-world. Aus was a big supporter of open-world canon. Septentrion were supporters of closed-world canon and realism. Roleplay should bring people together, but for Panessos it has only drawn us apart.

My opinion is that we should adopt a closed-world canon. However, this does not mean roleplays cannot take place between our members and members of the general NS community. I picture it like the Marvel comics (RIP Stan Lee.) While the MCU contains certain elements brought about and inspired by the comics, they are not carbon replicas. The comics are constantly expanded and retconned while the MCU has been constructed as its own timeline, subject not to the events of the comics. This is what I believe we should adopt. Anyone is free to roleplay with anyone (comics.) However, Panessos will have its own closed-world canon crafted with more forethought and realism. I'd love to hear your opinions.

On a side note, does anyone know the main of Zathalon? Also, would it be better to have this conversation in the Discord?

Naybra, thanks for putting out some points to start with.

1. I agree with you that the regional govt was overly complex, particularly as the number of active nations dwindled. I trust that we're all adults (or relatively mature) here and that we could do with a simpler set of rules or constitution. I agree we really need a strictly OOC government and let players create their own IC regional govt as they wish, which would prevent conflicts of interest.

2. I prefer a closed-world canon at this point. I've noticed communities thrive based on shared settings and values no matter where you go (starting from 9 year old me playing Club Penguin LOL). This doesn't mean people can't RP outside of Panessos or that they can't reference events that happened individually to their nations in outside roleplays, it's just that we should all mutually understand that other people may not acknowledge it as canon. And if an outside nation in an outside RP ends up joining Panessos, we can even end up retroactively putting certain events into the canon. I also think that if we are aiming to rebuild the region we should work to make a new skeleton outline of a canon that can be referenced in MT roleplays and filled in by people who might be interested in historical RPs.

I have experience building and rebuilding communities. We can discuss it on Discord.

I’m still here to help in any way I can, I’m just busy so I’m not as active as I used to be

Hey guys, longtime no see! I'm a puppet of Gillenor's, how we all doing?

Terripin, Mizrad, and Naybra

Welcome back zachatopia

Hey guys! Myself and Naybra have recently been discussing a return to NS and how we can go about it. Our first choice would be to revive Panessos, however neither of us have the time (we're both full-time students) and I don't think anyone else does either. Therefore, we would perhaps propose a move to another more active roleplay region. What are people's opinions on this?

Please would everyone who is still active on NS or would like to be more potentially active contact myself or Naybra?

You're certainly welcome to do so. This is essentially a legacy region associated with the War of the Two Empresses roleplay, and other associated creative projects. I'd be happy to discuss some of this with you via TG.

We're currently in a group discussion as to which policy we would like to take. The current consensus is to either move to another region with an already built framework (whilst maintaining this as a legacy region), or embark on a Panessian reconstruction.

Does anyone have a copy of the old regional map? That was what I was basing my new WOTE posts off of... I guess I shouldn't say "new" considering the last draft I just opened was so old that it is based on a map that became irrelevant like two years ago... oops.

Mizrad wrote:Does anyone have a copy of the old regional map? -snip-

I started digging up old map records once the IIWiki image server went down and destroyed all the image file archives. Thought I'd keep some backups in case the files were to be lost again. These are the highlights of that archive. I do have multiple "continental" maps of troop movements/war plans too if you desire.

I have all the old maps saved on my hard drive.

Zathalon wrote:I have all the old maps saved on my hard drive.

Actually, may you share a copy with me (TG or RMB) for my archives as well?

Throwing a delay on the WoTE post as to not mess up any chronology, should be up soon though.

I'm sure I'l lbe able to stay around one of these days!

Mizrad and Kamunista

Anyone interested in a WW2 era RP? Haven’t really rped in forever and was thinking bout launching one. We could establish a bit regional “history”, and could even predetermine the end result if that would make it easier to run smoothly
