Second Sina wrote:[Second Sina's irl name]'s take on life:

You start off on Level One of a big skyscraper. When you try to use the elevator, two armed guards stop you and reprimand you for "wanting to take the easy way out of the hard work and grind of life". However, when the son of a rich man comes to Level One, the guards invite him to use the elevator whilst offering him wine, cheese and crackers. He accepts, his meaty face grinning further hiding his eyeballs which were already impeded by layers of fat, and he gets on the elevator, ascending into the top of the skyscraper.

You start climbing. At first, you are optimistic, then you have climbed thousands of steps and realise you are nowhere near to even Level Two. You think you have it hard, until you see someone with chains connected to solid balls of osmium tied to their feet and carrying four bags in their hands full of tungsten. You do not help him- that would slow you down. You carry on climbing, step after step. After decades, your hair has grown white with age, and you keep on climbing. One day, as you continue climbing, you start to see Level 2. You continue climbing, until you reach the top. You have spent your youth climbing this staircase of millions of steps, and now you are old and brittle. The armed guards here observe you, deciding whether or not to knock you off.

GOOD ENDING:
After bribing them, the armed guards welcome you and invite you to take the elevator. Sure, you die at about Level 100 (you were old anyway), but your children at Level One got to take the elevator and are thousands of levels in the sky. You have started a new family of generational wealth.

BAD ENDING:
The armed guards knock you down the staircase. You roll until you reach Level One again. By now you are too old to climb anymore, and you die back on Level One. Your children have to climn the staircase just like you did, but now they wear the very chains and carry the very bags that you saw that person carry.

Now, replace the levels with money, the armed guards with government, the bags and chains with poverty. Boom, you have life.

Question of the Day:

Does your nation have prominent social class divisions, and if so, in what way?

Tethys 13 wrote:My answer:
One which is currently growing is the division between 'true knights' and 'civilians'. In the past, all Tethysi were considered 'knights', regardless of their occupation. However, there has been a movement away from that in recent decades, which may develop into a substantial class issue.

Generally not. Namwenia is a socialist society with general equality among all with minimal divisions based on social class.

Here in the Diner, when an extradimensional war goddess says that you do away with social class divisions, you do away with social class divisions.

Tethys 13 wrote:Question of the Day:

No. The citizens of our beloved nations are all well off and poverty is essentially non-existent, since the whole country is living off at the expense of foreign hostile ones that dare to go against us or our allies, that harm our best interest. The biggest source of income is still weapon arm sales to warring countries.

Huh, I've no idea at all. Someone must have made a list at some point, but I've no idea who or where to find it. I thought Amerion's guide might have one, but I don't see it. I had a quick look in the reference library too, but I'm not seeing anything obvious.

"My fellow citizens, the whole civilized world had been shocked early morning, most awaken at dawn by the horror of what had transpired last night on Flight 201 the previous night. While traversing through the historically disputed air space of the nation of Blackcare, the pilot was forced to take an sudden and abrupt landing at a rural airport, which was composed of nothing but a makeshift runaway strip, far below the safety guideline standards passed by the International General Assembly, upon receiving the message warning of a supposed bomb threat, which now after further investigation, had been discovered to be linked to the Blackacrean dictatorial government agency.

Not only were all those innocent passengers' lives were put at a far too heavy risk, which nobody regardless of their ethnic background of political agenda should ever endure, but rather than laying a helping hand, the local Blackacrean law enforcement personnels reacted recklessly by breaching into the premise of a civilian aircraft that had not been landed over 5 minutes ago. Very close call which was by God's grace, averted by our brave pilots. Persons involved in such an unprofessional conditions were not held back by their corresponding officials, but encouraged to initiate a cabin-wide search without the agreement of trained experts on board.

The worst is still yet to come however. as two journalists, of whom the Blackacrean state deemed as, "enemy of the state" in their twisted way of their scheme, against the interests of the rest of the globe, which in their infinite fraudulent propaganda is interpreted as a just fight, starving millions of her own citizens under the fake principles to achieve, so called "equality". We have also received intelligence a couple hours ago, where the family relatives of the innocent reporters were arrested and detained before given a fair trial, much to our dismay. These series of events have reflected the hypocrisy of the dictatorial regime in recent years, where it promised to close down some of its weapon development programs in exchange on lifts on some economic sanctions imposed. Our patience and good faith are rejected however, as numerous inspectors sent in by the independent Commission Enquiry Group on behalf of the General Assembly were denied entry, with some even being arrested and accused of espionage. The same tragedy is now occurring again, as the totalitarian government once again sought to use innocent reporters and their loved ones as bargaining chips in front of the international community. In this, they will fail.

The government of Blackcare, must in 48 hours, disclose all its original plans on the incident, release all journalists as well as their loved ones, and acquit all crimes of the current captives by declaring their innocent until a proper trail is concluded. The United Federal State diplomatic envoys are closely monitoring the development matters at hand, and shall conduct a search and rescue operation if it proves necessary, should any form of torture or unfair treatment befall any of the victims mentioned. Their refusal to do so, or give a response that has reached a satisfactory edict in front of the whole world would result in military confrontation, commenced at the time of our choosing. We are acting now, as the potential aftermath of inaction would be far greater. Even if the rest of the world choose to stand idle by, caused by fear or other reasons, Trontasky shall stand steadfast on the side of justice.

Once again, we want to express our gratitude to the pilots who carried out their duty and averted the crisis in the darkest hour. Tonight, those who are falsely accused and put at harm's way are in our prayers. May God continue to bless our country, and all who defend her."

when i was a kid i played a lot of board games, especially chess and checkers with my great grandfather all the time before he passed
we would always keep a scoresheet tallying each of our wins going back and forth all the time, though i imagine he probably let me win a lot of the time
since then ive dabbled in chess here and there, mostly online, but nothing much else as far as more traditional board games go

however, when i was in college i had an awesome roommate who introduced me to a fair few board games among which is what i would consider one of my favorites now, being dice throne- its essentially a mix between dnd elements and a card and dice game where each player has their own character (a board) and you roll to use different attack or defense rolls based on the symbols or numbers on the dice, some characters even have their own special mechanics
you can use cards to upgrade the attacks on your board, change your own rolls, change an opponents die, gain health or combat points(the currency system in the game), etc

it is extremely fun and has a huge amount of variety to it across 26 different characters to choose from and an entire dungeon crawler expansion which adds 4 bosses, a ton of mini enemy boards, a huge selection of new cards and upgrades on cards, etc
its also a little pricey but honestly i highly recommend it for the replayability

my roommate and i would often spend hours playing in our dorm or sometimes in a lounge or with his gf or some random people and we continued playing when we hung out every now and then even after we both left college (it helps they moved to the city i live in for a while), and though hes unfortunately gone now its something really nice to remember him by
i dont actually own the game as of rn because as i said its a bit pricey, but ill definitely be buying everything someday (and all of you should too)

aside from the wonders of dice throne he also introduced me to another game called cartographers which we only got to play a few times but i found it to be pretty fun; you start the game by choosing a card each for 4 seasons which give you a goal of what kind of tiles you need to draw in what kind of pattern on a grid map provided to you, you draw cards that have a certain pattern of a certain tile and you get to choose where to put it and try to align it with the goals of the season youre in which give you stars (essentially just the score system for the game), i think its pretty fun and certainly on the more reasonable side price wise, though really, you should absolutely try out dice throne if you ever get the chance
or if you dont feel like spending like 100+ on one season (each season has 8 characters), they also have a few double character boxes for a more reasonable price if you just want to try it out
their first 2 seasons are more dnd-esque but they also have a season with marvel characters as well as a double pack with a santa and krankus which is fun (if only the dungeon crawler sounds interesting you more or less need the main season characters for it to work so wouldnt recommend, though i suppose you could just look them up online, but also i feel like if youre committing to the expense of the dungeon crawler you may as well get at least one season anyway)
but yeah tldr i really love this game and you should try it and also cartographers is good too

ps; the adventure time card wars board game i ordered on kickstarter last year is finally coming soonish too so ill have that to look forward to as well
