Thank you very much.
Hi Oceania,
In the 1984 world, I find it interesting that George Orwell never divided Antarctica. Why were claims never placed on it?
As a result of this, as well as the fact that Christmas is fast approaching, I have taken it upon myself to make a map of Antarctica, whereby it is divided accordingly by the largest nation’s in the region.

Thanks,
Should Antarctica not remain neutral/un colonised but instead have a similar situation that is in the world today with every nation "sharing" Antarctica and keeping it as the worlds last natural wilderness?
In terms of the “real world” in the region, I agree. However, the 1984 world constructed by George Orwell shouldn’t remain neutral. This is largely due to the fact that the world is essentially divided between totalitarian regimes, that of Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia.
Yes, you can draw parallels between the fact that some terrrories are titled as “disputed” according to Orwell’s narrative. However, by the very nature of the fact that it is called “disputed” means that the other superstates claim it.
I will go back to my original suggestion of the fact that Orwell never made mention of Antarctic claims in his novel, which is a huge opening to expand on the author’s narrative gaps throughout the text: that of claiming Antarctica in the 1984 world.
In short, the 1984 world should be able to claim Antarctica. Orwell’s novel is a basis of fiction that shouldn’t be constraint to the Antarctic Treaty System of the real world. Those who’s nations are based in the “real world” should universally abide by the Treaty, although Spanish Micronesia could change this if necessary.
And a happy new year :-)

What do you mean?
Some view it positively, looking at the ever expanding array of books, music, and art as a good thing. Others view it negatively, viewing it a loss to one's national culture.

Some view it positively, seeing it as a war deterent. a way to lower prices, among other things. Others view it negatively, seeing it as becoming economically dependent on other countries, a detriment to the health of workers, among other things.
